Can you take your reader eye glasses into a store to give them prescription lenses?

I have these reader glasses I got online, I thought they were for prescription, but they aren't. So, I'm stuck with these readers, and I don't need them to see. I need prescription lenses!

Is there any eye store that will take my reading glasses and put my prescription lenses in them?

How can I improve my vision?

I've never been able to see clearly, ever since I was born my mom says that my vision was bad, and that I was going to be blind from my left eye. Over time I gained vision with both eyes. I started to wear glasses when I was 5 years old and I would always break them on accident. So my mom decided to save money and not get me any glasses until I was 11. She says that that made my vision worse, I'm not too sure about that I'm 18 now and over the years I've noticed that every year my lens get thicker, which is why i hate going to the eye doctor now. Is there any natural way to cure my vision? Do glasses make my vision worse? If so please help any information would be helpful. Thank you

Are these CONTACTS LENSES OK for me!

Ok so my prescription is power. -4.75
Base curve 8.7. And diameter is 14.2

http://www.visiondirect.co.uk/contact-lenses/monthly-contact-lenses/frequency-55

I'm interested in these frequency 55 lenses since those are what I have worn previously. However here is the glitch. My base curve is 8.7 exactly. These online lenses are only offered in 8.6 and 8.8. So should I still buy them and which base curve should I get the 8.6 or 8.8 if I'm an 8.7?

Also how come there are no monthly contacts on this site with my exact prescription?

What happens if you use older technology hydrogel lenses (but not every day)?

Unlike most people, I don't hate my glasses. I have a strange habit wherein I use glasses one day, and contacts the next day (monday=contacts, tuesday=glasses, wednesday=contacts, thursday=glasses…).

I never use contacts more than 12 hours a day, and never sleep in them (unless accidentally, for half an hour to one hour max, but if this happens, i remove the lenses the moment I wake up and don't use them for the next 2 days).

1>Say I switch back from B&L purevision 2, to soflens 59, will this cause problems in my case? I used soflens59 before my doc switched me to purevision 2, and I think soflens 59 was more comfortable (and cheaper). I didn't have any problems with soflens59, he said he's switching because modern lenses are healthier.

2>Since I'm using contacts every alternate day, and the contacts are meant to be replaced monthly, can I use the same pair for 60 days instead of 30? In effect, I'd still be using the contacts for 30 days, as they will spend another 30 days soaking in OptiFree.

I'd appreciate if an eye-care professional could advice on this, contact lens users can help too but I strongly believe professionals know better than users like us.

Thanks.

Is it true that eye doctors don't use contact lenses?

This friend just pointed out that eye doctors don't use contacts. I've seen 3 eye doctors since childhood, and all 3 use glasses, so my personal experience suggests the friend is correct in his observation. This kinda makes me scared to use contacts- eye doctors know what's best for eyes, and if they're not using contacts themselves, there must be a very good reason for their decision…

If you were using your contacts under water, would you still be able to see clearly?

the index of refraction for the cornea is ncornea=1.376, for air nair=1.00, and nwater=1.33. The power for the lenses (on ground) is 1.46 and the object distance on ground is 25cm. This question is confusing me a lot because first I said, you won't be able to see clearly because water and cornea have similar n values so there will be minimal refraction but I'm not sure if there's some air in between the eye and the contact lenses. Could please explain the reasoning behind your answer. Thanks in advance.

Short sighted. When did you notice your eyesight wasn't great? And when did you become a glasses wearer?

I was about 7 when I noticed my eyesight wasn't great as I couldn't see a picture on the black board at school.

17 I had to wear them all the time
18 contact lenses
26 I can't even see people facial expressions.

When do eyes change back to normal after you stop wearing ortho-k lenses?

I began using ortho-k lenses last month to correct my vision. My vision improved significantly but I had began to see pretty bad ghosting, halos, and starbursts especially at night. I brought these problems up to the doctor, and he fitted me for a new pair of lenses but the problems still persisted. I had chosen to stop using them for fear they may damage my eyes. I had wore the lenses for a total of 16 nights from October 23rd to November 8th. I stopped wearing them and allowed my eyes to return to how they were before. After a few days my vision was to their old prescription, as I could see fine with my glasses or contacts on. However there's still severe halos, ghosting and starbursts without my glasses or contacts on. When I put my glasses or contacts on, these effects go away significantly but i still notice a slight ghosting and starburst effect. It's very slight but still there. Will these symptoms go away or are they permanent? How much time must pass before my eyes go back to normal and all these effects from ortho k go away altogether?

Extra info: I followed all the proper lense care procedures, cleaning them daily and using proper solutions.

I never rubbed my eyes when the lenses were on

I maintained all appointments with my doctor and kept him informed all the way through treatment before deciding to stop my treatment

My doctor is one of the best optometrists where I live and he specializes in ortho k, I paid north of $3000

Is it ok to not feel a contact lens in your eyes?

Got contacts about 15 days back. When I wore them for the first time, I could feel the lens. It wasn't painful or uncomfortable, i could just feel something was present in the eye.

Now, after 15 days of regular use, I can't feel the lenses in my eyes after about 5 minutes from wearing -it's as if there's nothing in my eyes yet I'm able to see clearly.

A quick google search said it might be that oxygen starvation has killed the nerve cells in the cornea and the cornea can no longer feel anything.

I called my optometrist's office, he was busy with other patients so a nurse took my call and said this is normal as the lenses I've been given does bot block oxygen.

Is this nerve cells dying from lack of oxygen? Or is this something else? Shall I book another appointment with my optometrist? The lenses he gave me are called "Avaira", and I take them out before sleeping every night. Please advice.

Explain my Contact lense prescription to me?

So I wen't to the eye doctor today so they could check up on my contacts and such, and i got a sheet that had my contact lens prescription on it. However, I do not understand what any of it means and, here is what is says:
Right Base curve: 8.6, Right Diameter: 14.2, Sphere: -2.75

Left base curve: 8.6, Left Diameter: 14.2, Sphere: -2.50

What does this mean? How do I figure out what my vision out of 20 is (like perfect vision is 20/70)
I tried looking it up on google but I had no success, so maybe one of you guys know how to read these types of prescriptions?
Thanks!

Are contact lens deposits visible to the naked eye?

My monthly lenses are 20 days old today. If I hold them against a bright light, I can see small white grainy substances all over them. But this is not affecting my vision- once inserted into the eyes, I can see everything clearly. Instead, what's happening is that the lenses become uncomfortable after half an hour of wear, my eyes turn a bit red and itch like hell. If i remove the lenses, the itching goes away within 5 minutes but the redness stays for a few hours. If i endure the itch and don't remove the lenses, the SAME happens, the itchiness and redness go away after a while. Is this a problem with my cleaning solution? Or are these white grains protein deposits that are causing an allergic reaction?

I still have another 10 days life left on these lenses, should i throw away the lenses and open a fresh pair? Any idea what's going on?

How severe is a -.25 astigmatism? And what does x105 mean?

I went to a new eye doctor today, and instead of my usual OD -2.75 sph, OS -1.75 sph prescription, the new one reads OD -2.75 -.25x105, OS -1.75 sph.
I did some research online and apparently this means I have an astigmatism in my right eye. I'm a little confused because the doctor did not discuss this with me, and at 29 years old, I've never been diagnosed with an astigmatism before. I've also never had blurry vision that I've noticed.
Is it possible to develop one this late in life? If so, how severe is this -.25? And what does x105 mean?

Is this normal for a new glasses wearer? Very concerned!

After neglecting my eyes for a while I recently visited an eye doctor who said that my distance vision is less than perfect and that I need to wear glasses to see better. I got my glasses yesterday and my vision is much improved when I wear them but I have 3 major problems with the glasses.

1). After taking them off my vision is much worse than it was even a few days ago. Is this a bad sign?

2). I have noticed that the glasses make me a little light headed. Is this normal?

3). Also, the glasses make my eyes and face appear shrunken. Why is this happening? Will it look less weird if I pay for more expensive glasses?

I asked these questions to my friend who has glasses and she said that it depends on the strength of the lens. I didn't know mine but she told me to look at the piece of paper which the doctor gave me so I'm copying the letters numbers onto this.

OD SPH -2.50 CYL -0.25 AXIS 180
OS SPH -2.25 CYL SPH AXIS ---

How to convince my parents to let me have contact lenses?

I'm 15 now and I want to have contact lenses. I want them since I turned 12. I tried to convince my parents to let me have contact lenses for several times but until now, all of them failed. I searched information about contact lenses wearing in the years so I know some information about contact lenses. My room is tidy (tidier than my parents' room). I always hand in homework on time. I study for tests and exams without the need of my parents reminding me. Cost is not a problem as my parents spend quite a lot on me (some of the costs are unnecessary that I can let them cut that off). My father stopped wearing contact lenses 12 years ago and is wearing glasses now. My mother do not need any vision correction. They said that I'm too young for contact lenses that my eyes can't be adapted to them (which is not true, the eyes of children can also adapt to wearing contact lenses). They also said that contact lenses causes the cornea to have not enough oxygen (there are contact lenses with high oxygen permeability). When I tried to explain to them about the facts and my points (in a polite and mature way, allowing them to think about it), they said no and change the conversation to other topics immediately. When I tried to change back the topic, they change the topic to other topics immediately, or told me to stop mentioning contact lenses. This happens every time. How should I convince them to let me have contact lenses?
Added (1). I will wash the contact lenses properly every day, and keep the case clean. I will not wear the contact lenses longer than the supposed time of wearing.

Trying to order coloured contact lenses, the lowest prescription they sell is -1.00

Is PRK eye surgery possible for my high prescription?

I'm going in for a PRK consultation in 3 weeks and I can't help but stress over it due to the possibility of being turned down because of my high prescription. I have severe myopia (nearsightedness) -10.00 in one eye and -9.00 in the other. I also have astigmatism. I wear contacts and glasses and even with them on my eyesight isn't the best so maybe my true prescription is even higher. This is why I can't even consider getting LASIK because that won't work for my prescription. I've been looking for answers all over and can't find much about PRK being done on people who have my type of prescription. All I really see is that there's an increased risk for complications when it comes to high prescriptions and since they're rarely done there isn't much information or studies on it compared to all of the studies on regular patients. Also, I looked into the lens implant which is a surgery for high prescriptions but I can't get that because it doesn't treat astigmatism. I won't be able to afford getting that done on top of getting another surgery done to correct the astigmatism. I can only afford one surgery and PRK is my only hope. I need it for 3 reasons… 1. I want to have a career in law enforcement as a police officer (I need atleast 20/30 corrected vision 2. My vision isn't even 20/30 with glasses or contacts 3. Contacts give me dry eyes and they cause irritation, but glasses also give me problems as well such as tension headaches and getting dirty every 10 minutes.

Contact lenses, my eyes are stinging?

I wear monthly lenses and have no problems but the other month my right eye started to sting and burn so I left it out for a day, when I put it back in the same thing happened., I thought that it might be the lense not my eye as the left contact lense was fine. I put my right lense in my left eye and my eye started to burn. I told my optometrist and she said throw them, I was given a new set and there was no problem.

Anyway, I had 1 month with no pain. I ordered 3 months supply and wore glasses until they came in.

I opened a fresh pack and put the lenses in my right eye and instantly my felt like it had grit in it. I've been wearing them for 4 days and the right eye burns and hurts and the second I take them out the air gets to my eye and my eye feels sensitive, my eye still hurts.
I'm seeing the optometrist in a few days as I've never experienced this with a fresh new lenses.

Any opinions?

Which of these Computer glasses are better? - 1

I want to buy computer glasses because I use the computer all day and my eyes get sore and dry. What I'm looking for are glasses that are light, block Blue light and are comfortable to wear. Mostly though I just don't want my eyes to be irritated by the blue light.

My budget is $15 and these 2 are the best ones I found on Ebay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/AV-AirLunette-Anti-UV-Glare-Blue-Light-Reducing-Computer-Gaming-Glasses-in-/282427275638?epid=1666233856&hash=item41c1fa3976%3Ag%3A12QAAOSwc-tY6pq1&_trkparms=pageci%253A1ac22696-b680-11e7-bf81-74dbd1801ab8%257Cparentrq%253A3fd8dcf015f0ab4d29805414ffff4469%257Ciid%253A1

https://www.ebay.com/itm/201789343575

The first one looks nice, very light and comes with a case and cleaning cloth. What I worry about is that the lenses aren't very yellow so I wonder if it will block enough to keep my eyes safe.

The second one looks a bit thicker and more stylish. Plus the lenses are much more yellow. But I worry if it is too yellow that it will be annoying.

These both look great but I really just want the one that will perform the best and be the most comfortable. Which do you believe is the better choice?

Will using a slightly higher power damage the eyes?

I have a prescription of -5.25 in both eyes. Ordered contact lenses online, and they sent me a box of -5.50. I opened the box without reading the numbers printed on it, and noticed the power was wrong only after opening a blister pack. Now they won't take it back as the box has been opened.

I'm not facing any problems with the higher power- if anything, i can see much better with these lenses, distant signs and billboards are much sharper, blacks are more black, whites are more bright, and colors are more well-defined. And near vision is same as with the older (weaker) lenses as per my prescription. No eye pain and no headache yet (been using these lenses for 2 days, today is the 3rd day).

If I keep using these higher power lenses, will I cause permanent damage to the eyes? Will this cause a permanent increase in the power of corrective lenses required?

My prediction is -3.5 in each eye and my prism strength is -3.0 in each eye. She said the prism is used in both eyes to balance the thickness of the lenses since I had a strong prism correction. Why aren't brown eyes called pretty?

I'm very insecure about my brown eyes. When I go to birthdays or meet people outside of school, I always put on my blue contact lenses and get compliments on my eyes. When they're brown, no one says anything. I've observed this many times; typically when someone has bright blue/green/grey eyes, they get compliments like "your eyes are gorgeous" or "wow they l love your eyes", but when someone has brown eyes, you rarely see anyone even mentioning their eyes, let alone complimenting them. I've seen this both in areas where brown eyes are common, and in areas where blue eyes are dominant. Even in the contact lense industry majority of contacts manufactured are light-colored, because there's such a huge demand/want for light eyes.

Why do people never compliment dark eyes? I hate myself for not liking my own eyes, but I still feel like I need to cover them up in order to feel attractive…

Can soft lenses cause keratoconus?

If you see those videos in youtube about removing contact lenses, you'll see most of them tell you to slide the lens away from the cornea to the temporal side, and pinch it out when it's resting on the sclera. A long time back when I used contacts for the first time (in 2003), my ophthalmologist taught me the same procedure.

With practice, I have learned to insert/remove the lenses without the aid of a mirror. Now, without a mirror, I can't see the lens if I slide it away from the cornea, so I pill it straight from the cornea instead of sliding it away first. My fingernails are always clipped so there's no risk of scratching the cornea, but when I pinch them out, due to surface tension the lens has some hold on the cornea and i can feel a slight "pull" when the lens leaves the cornea and comes to my fingers.

Will this pulling effect cause keratoconus on the long run?

Light brown/hazel contacts recommendations?

So I have really dark asian eyes but pale skin and have practically tried every colour of lenses. I have tried circle lenses in every colour and brand as well as quartzo and mel from solotica and now I want to try light brown/hazel contacts.
If anyone has any recommendations?
This was the colour i was hoping for.

Added (1). Because i'm half asian I know it wouldn't look strange as when I have worn realistic green contacts (mel hidrocor from solotica) many thought it was my own eye colour.
I'm hoping for the most realistic contacts, has anyone tried adore bitone hazel?

Could I ask for a slightly weaker prescription?

Ok so I started off by doing the wrong thing! Basically I went about 4 years without an eye test (thank god my eyes are healthy and I've had two tests so i know they are). I've been prescribed a stronger pair of glasses which they have doubled checked is right at my second eye test.
However I feel that the lenses might be too strong. It's been difficult for me to tell as I have also had a lot of problems with my head recently (labrynthitus and acute sinusitis). So I'm finding it hard to tell if my vision is affected because of those or my glasses.
Sadly I think it is my glasses as the doctors haven't found any problems with my head or eyes recently.

Long story short though, I've been wearing my old ones while I've been ill because I felt the others would make my headaches worse.
I may be confusing people here but basically I'm asking if I should just try and get weaker lenses so I can wear them easier for awhile? And will specsavers do it?

Should I wear contact lenses for a regular eye exam?

I need to update my prescription, it's been two years since I've done so. It's just when I get ready to pick my frames, I want to be sure they're exactly what I want because in the past, I couldn't see as well when I picked them out and they looked completely different by the time my prescription was put in.

I'm always abused for being ugly in the street and on public tranpsort?

Yesterday I had a ugly man come up and look under my umbrella and peer at me closely, I just looked at him nuetrally because I know they're all psychos. He was hideously tall, dressed in ugly clothing, just disgusting looking. He did a small smile and walked away, i did a small smile, I hated him but didn't let him know. I had a man on a train make his pen** go up and down like my little brother did once as a child, it was tiny, like a child, out of his pants, no one else did anything, then he came up really close to me and looked into my eyes. I just looked neutral at him, another ugly psycho, disgusting contact lens eyes, amber eyes, he went away. I'm sick of being abused as ugly. I had an ugly man in a hideous shiny suit walk towards me sneering, he was fingering money in his wallet, he was hideously tall, very ugly, his suit looked cheap, just disgusting to me, I did nothing, because they're all violent psychos, I have travelled the world and never been abused, the men in my city are just disgusting, they dress in rags, I worked all my life, 14 years, they attacked me at work, I have to go back, they are all trash to me. I have never had a date. Australian men are such losers. I lived in London they are not loosers there. I lost my looks I suppose, they attack me because I lost my looks, they're just disgusting, men, vile pigs, all of them.

Prescription increased by a lot in both eyes what lenses do I need?

My eyes went from -1.00 and -1.25 to -2.25 and -2.75. Not sure what type of lenses I need. Should I get plastic or this new type called polycarbonate?

The assistant at the optical store said I need the polycarbonate because of how bad my eyes are but they're more expensive so I wanted a second opinion.

Also, are my eyes really a lot worse? Is this legally blind?

Does this picture (of corneal neovasc) look real? Should I go for an unscheduled checkup?

1. I was under the impression that neovascularization is mostly unrecognizable by contact lens wearers (hence the need for routine yearly followup with a professional eye care practitioner), This image (NOT mine) has such thick blood vessels, it's impossible for the patient not to see these himself: https://goo.gl/nSNKQv

2. I have some blood vessels, and they are just touching the exterior circumference of the cornea, but have not crept inside the cornea, at least it doesn't look like they've crept in, they're just touching the exterior circumference. Last time this happened, I checked with you guys and a professional eye care practitioner here advised this is normal. I saw my doc anyway (I'm too scared in eye related matters) and he too said this is not a problem and I can continue lens use. And then eventually they faded away on their own. Now they have appeared again, and I'm scared- more so because I'm NOT using silicone lenses as they are invariably uncomfortable to me. I wear them 10 to 12 hours a day, 5 or 6 days a week. They are monthly replaceable.

Here are two pictures of my eyes, if you increase your computer's brightness to moderate levels, you should be able to see the blood vessels:

https://goo.gl/jE7xux
https://goo.gl/aHQodM

PS: Can you suggest some tips on how to prevent these weird ugly blood vessels from showing up? They appear from time to time and disappear on their own. Not using contact lenses for a few days seems to calm them down.

What diopter counts do I put in when ordering contacts online that aren t specified for astigmatism?

Hi, i recently got my eyes checked for prescription contact lenses because I wanted to purchase some coloured contacts online from the sites ttdeye/solotica. I found out I have astigmatism in both eyes and I'm not sure how to go about entering my diopter counts when ordering on the website because my optometrist said my vision would be blurry without the astigmatism.

My prescription is as follows:

OD:
-BC: 8.50
-Power: -2.00-1.75x170

OS:
-BC: 8.50
-Power: -1.25-2.25x170

I'm also not sure what each number means. If you go on ttdeye s website, you can see that you can enter diopter counts for lenses with prescriptions but I'm not sure if only inputting OS:-.200 and OD:-1.25 would be the wrong prescription, and I have a feeling it might be. Any help to calculate what diopters I should input would be appreciated!

Can't get a pair of glasses prescribed that allow me to see as clear as I should

Hi,

So about the last 3 times I've had an eye exam done, my glasses haven't been as clear as they should be. This is apparent because if I tilt my glasses arms upwards, my vision becomes clearer… Same result if I tilt my head back and look through the bottom of the lenses.

I even tried a diffrent optician last time. Same result. Very clear vision during the test (20/15 vision) but disappointing with my glasses. It's not bad or very unclear, but definitely less sharp than it should be. If I tilt my glasses, my vision becomes noticeably clearer, especially at long distances. I did tell this to my optician and he said the prescription is fine. I said it may be fine during the exam, but it's not with my actual glasses. I ask why it becomes clearer with tilting, and he just said 'but we don't look like that'. Obviously we don't, but if my glasses were right, my vision wouldn't be clearer with tilting. It's like they are always weaker than they should be. It's very frustrating because I know I can obviously see clearer than I'm, but none of my prescribed glasses seem to allow me to.

Any advice?

Thanks

What causes glaucoma? Am I at risk?

My dad's just been diagnosed with glaucoma, and prescribed eye drops and multivitamins.
I have high myopia (-5.50), but the doc, after a thorough checkup, said there's no risk of glaucoma yet.
Google suggests glaucoma runs in families, but none of my grandparents have the condition.
Am I at risk of developing glaucoma in future? Is there something I can do to prevent the onset? I use contact lenses, should I stop using them? Please suggest.

Will using artificial tears regularly, reduce the eye's ability to produce natural tears?

I don't have dry eyes but i use refresh tears every day while using contact lenses, because i like the cold moist feeling of the drops. This friend of mine told me doing so will make the eyes dependent on artificial tears and reduce the eye's ability to create normal tears- sort of like what happens if a person uses sleeping pills excessively, the body loses its ability to sleep naturally and after a while the person must take the pills to fall asleep.

Is this true? Should I stop using refresh tears?

Contact lens prescription change? - 2

I went to the eye doctor yesterday and had a change in my prescription. They've been the same for both eyes. My prescription for the past 2 or 3 years was BC 8.7 DIA 14.5 PWR -4.75 CYL -1.75 AX 180. My new prescription went to PWR -4.50 and cylinder -2.25. They gave me the trial lenses and I'm pretty sure the girl said they didn't have the brand of contacts I normally wear in my new prescription but they had another brand so I'm wearing that new brand for the trial lenses. I'm going to try to describe how I'm seeing blurrry with this new prescription. I know I'm pretty nearsighted but the distance from my bed and the cable box isn't very far and the digital time that shows up on the box looks blurry to me. I put on my old contacts and it look clear. Road signs from afar look blurry now; before the lettering itself was clear and it would just take getting closer to be able to actually read it. Everything close by like reading a book or reading the guide on the TV is fine. I know the reason they changed the Cyl number is because of my astigmatism… I have trouble with lights at night, like seeing bursts around them and she said it was probably my astigmatism changing. I have noticed a slight decrease in the bursts around lights at night with the new prescription but since the Sph went down to -4.50 I wonder if that's why some things look a little blurry. Does the Sph number have to go down since they increased my Cyl number?

RGP Contact Lens Split into half. Could I be doing something wrong?

I wear RGP or Rigid Gas Permeable Contact Lenses. The contacts are glass not plastic. I had this one since middle of May 2017. I'm gentle in caring and cleaning for the lens as I damaged one in the past. On Wednesday morning September 13,2017 I inserted the contact lens in my eye. I noticed right away it was bothering me quite a bit. I wore it about a hour and decided to remove it. Just to clean the contact lens and flush my eye out. I went to clean the contact lens and I noticed it was in half. I clean with Boston 2 in 1 and use contact lens saline solution. I follow the instructions. Could I have done anything wrong? Is it common for a contact lens to split in half ( 2 pieces_?

If I have pink eye should I go to school or stay home?

My eye started to get red about two days ago, I just passed it off as allergies and went about my day. I looked in the mirror a few minutes ago and it has got worse significantly. Best contact lenses for astigmatism and dry eyes?

Looking for comfortable, at least 12 hours or more wear. I have astigmatism on my right eye and recently got diagnosed with dry eyes so my doctor prescribed refresh eye drops with no preservatives. I have to use them daily. I rarely use my eye glasses because they feel so uncomfortable. My vision isn't as bad, O.D plano - 0.75 x 176, O.S. Plano 0.25 x 180. I'm not looking for colored contacts, just clear ones. It would be nice to try colored contacts, I'm just not so sure which brand can offers all these options for me. Please let me know! Contacts are fine after first day, second day onwards they burn

I got contacts in Wednesday, optometrist opened a new set and put them in my eyes. Perfect. Next day, after soaking them in solution. Burn. Fades away after an hour. Next day. Burns so bad that tears are rolling down my cheeks and I have to take them out. Go back to doctor. New pair. Perfect. Next day, solution soaked, cleaned. Burns. I'm new to contacts and these are 2 weeks lenses to see if I want to buy them. So far I love them, besides the burning after the first day! Why is it burning? The second pair I've been meticulous with and having dropped them. Hands have been washed thoroughly and the lenses have been cleaned.

How bad is it to extend disposable contact lens life?

I'm using monthly disposable soft lenses. My ophthalmologist recommends replacing them every month. But I've regularly used one pair for 4 months, sometimes even 6 months. I've been doing this for last 14 years now. I don't wear them constantly- I use them for about 10 to 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, and rub+rinse+soak them in opti-free every night.

My ophthalmologist doesn't know I'm doing this. I go for routine checkups once every year, and he's never found a problem with my eyes.

Realistically, is it that important to replace contact lenses on a routine planned schedule? If I've not had a problem in 14 years, it doesn't seem like I'm significantly increasing the risk of eye diseases by not following the replacement schedule. Perhaps I will get an infection some time in the future, but then every contact lens user will probably get one infection after 14+ years using them.

Daughter has been issued an ultimatum by the ophthalmologist?

My teenage daughter has been nearsighted for a while but has adamantly refused to wear her spectacles. We went back for a checkup a few days ago and her vision has gotten drastically worse. The doctor says it's not horrible but he also said that even low amounts of myopia can be pretty incapacitating. She was a -1.25 and -1.00. Now she's a -2.75 and a -2.25. The doctor says that she really must use her spectacles now. He claims that the decline in her vision was not caused by her refusal to wear her spectacles but I'm still concerned because she hasn't been keeping up with her schoolwork due to her poor vision. Contact lenses are not an option for her because she's very, very squeamish (it's almost pathological).

Unfortunately, she's a very sickly child. She's rather large and she has terrible acne. She also has a number of dental appliances to correct her malocclusions. I'm certain that these issues are contributing to her low self-esteem and consequently to her refusal to use the prescribed spectacles.

Is -2.75 a significant prescription? She seems to think that she can get by without the glasses but the doctor was quite adamant that she wear them most of the time (although he did say that the prescription is categorized as a "weak" one). Not sure what to make of his conflicting opinions.
Added (1). Will the thickness of the lenses be detrimental to her appearance? My husband and I are both lawyers and we'd be happy to pay for the more expensive lenses if they're deemed necessary. The technician said they weren't really required at her current prescription (-1.25) but we're not sure if they're necessary for her new one (-2.75).

My new eyeglasses are messed up and no one can figure it out, What now?

My original prescription that I'm wearing now is
Right eye -4.50 Cylinder +1.25, Axis 080
Left Eye -4.50 Cylinder +.50 Axis 95
Both with an addition of +2.25
(I originally wrote the wrong info in a previous question)
My new is
Right eye -4.25 Cylinder +1.00, Axis 085
Left Eye -4.25 Cylinder +.75 Axis 90
Both with an addition of +2.50
I saw fine with my old glasses but my eyes were very fatigued and my doctor lowered the distance and increased the addition slightly. He said I won't notice much of a difference. But when I put on my new glasses it was really blurry. More than that, I can't read through them unless i tilt my head all the way to the right and then I can use the right eye or all the way to the left for the left eye.
The optical store measured the new glasses and say it is done as prescribed. My doctor was unavailable, but the optician in the doctors office also said they checked out as prescribed, but after he looked at it for over an hour said when he measured the lenses manually the optical center is off by more than 20 mm and is assuming, that the original blank was defective, and this is rare. He agreed that I should not really notice much of a difference between these and my old glasses. The original store is redoing it assuming it is poor optics. It is a mystery, and I'm afraid there will be the same problem again. Any ideas?

Contact lens burnt my eye?

Today I wanted to wear my contact lenses. I took one of them out of the case, and by the time I was able to recognize which way is correct ans which way is inside out, the lens became kind of dry. I put some solution on it and waited a bit, then I put it in my eye and it instantly burned like crazy. I was barely able to get it out and my eye was very red. Am I okay? By the way, the solution usually burns my eye but it goes away in about a minute, but this time it burnt way too much. But I normally don't put solution after I take it out of the case.

Help for putting in contact lenses?

I'm doing a cosplay of a character with pink eyes the day after tomorrow and I got colored contacts (non-prescription, so they don't alter my vision). I tried practicing putting them in for the first time, and I followed my mom's instructions since she's worn contacts for a long time but nothing worked.

I washed my hands, trimmed my nails, soaked the lens in solution, and pressed it into my eye, but the lens always stuck inside-out to my finger and wouldn't stick to my eye at all. Should my fingers be completely dry? I have dry eyes, so should I put in eye drops before trying to put in the contacts? I don't think it's a problem with the contacts since they had very good reviews and my mom didn't notice anything wrong with them.

My dad said I might just not be able to put contacts in, but that'd be really disappointing since my cosplay character's eyes are probably her most known feature.

What is wrong with me? I'm 22yrs old and always forgetful?

I'm 22 years old and recently graduated from University. I'm currently working Part-time in a shoe shop. I'm trying to apply for jobs in the field I studied in.

I'm having problems with my concentration and memory and I don't know why. It's not an issue I have had before, so what's wrong with me now?

For example every morning I always forget to pack something important I need for work, every time I go to grab something from the stockroom for a customer I always forget what it is and have to ask a colleague to repeat it, sometimes when I go to grab some shoes which are in boxes and labeled with the name and colour. I can't seem to see them properly (even though I wear contact lenses), so I'll say to the customer we don't have the item but if one of my colleagues goes to check, she ends up finding the shoe the customer needs.

I'm always continuously daydreaming, I have been working there for 3 months now and I can't seem to do my job fast and efficiently. My colleague taught me how to do a refund and even though its so simple, I'm always forgetting how to do it. I forget the most simplest thing and I always feel tired.

After school, when to put back Contact lenses?

I put on my contacts at 6:30pmam. I get home from school at 5-6pm. Shorty then, removing my CL (Contact lenses) I'm aware that I can't have them on longer than 8 hours or else I'm depriving my eyes of oxygen.
How long do I need to wait before putting them back on b/c I also study on the computer. Yes, I do take them off before sleeping!

What contact lenses should i prefer?

I've just come back from my eye doctor because my old glasses and contacts were too weak (they were -1.00D in both eyes). My new prescription is:
OD: -1.50 sp -0.75 cyl
OS: -1.50 sp -0.50 cyl

So calculating the spherical equivalent, for left eye is -1.75, while for right is -1.875. So for the right eye is better choosing -1.75 or -2.00 contact lenses?

Can't get new glasses without fitting? Since when?

I wear both glasses and contacts. The other day my new puppy chewed on my glasses so I went and ordered a new pair from lens crafters. I didn't have my prescription with me so I did that thing where they verify the prescription with your Dr s office. I got a call the next day that my eye doctors office would not approve/give the prescription as I have not had a fitting. (Not that the prescription is expired, I confirmed that part, my last appointment for a check up was like 4 months ago). I don't understand this as I have never had a "fitting" or problem before. I've ordered plenty of glasses this way and never had it come back that I have not had a "fitting". I will call my office when the open in the morning, but until then any idea what this means?

Can i convert an eye glasses prescription to the contact lense prescription?

Hello, i got my eye exam and i have a eye glasses prescription but i want contacts. They said i can't use a eye glasses prescription to get contact lenses. I already paid 45$ for the exam and the contact lense exam is 90$! I have the numbers on the prescription for eye glasses. This might sound dumb but Is there anything like a formula to convert those numbers to a contact lense prescription?

Missing school because of corneal ulcer?

About a month ago, I had a corneal ulcer in my eye with a viral disease in it due to overuse of contact lenses.

Today, my eye was feeling red and irritated again, so I went back to the eye doctor and found out an ulcer is forming once again due to bacteria from contact lenses. (yes it is my fault for sleeping in them)

Anyways, the last time this happened, I could hardly do anything because my eye was in so much pain and watering. I'm a senior in high school and I just can't see how I'm going to be able to sustain seven hours at school tomorrow because it's very hard to focus with my eye like this.

Would staying home be logical? I seriously HATE missing school because it can be so difficult to catch up, even just one day.

I have astigmatism. For colored lenses is it better to wear non toric prescription or no prescription?

So for awhile now I've been looking into Solotica colored contacts because of the natural look they give, but since I have astigmatism the affordable colored contact options for me are brands like air optix and what not which I don't like the appearance of because they look fake and you can tell they re contacts unlike the realistic solotica ones that look like natural eye color. Solotica does make toric lenses but they re extremely difficult to find and are 2-3 times the price of regular sphere contacts. I've heard about people using sphere contacts in a certain different prescription that they calculate to make it the "equivalent" of their astigmatism ones but i'm scared if i spend that much on ordering them and my vision is even worse than having no prescription, it would ve been a waste. Is it a better option for me to get Solotica non prescription lenses and just see with my normal vision without any correcting, or, should I get sphere lenses? I'm not sure which is safer or what not. Thanks

What is wrong with me? Why am I so forgetful?

I don't know if its because I don't get enough sleep, I eat junk food and I don't exercise.

I also feel demotivated at work. I think it may be because I don't enjoy working in retail and I hate my job. BUT most of my colleagues don't like the job too but they are fast and efficient at their job so why am I the only one who is so useless?

Do you honestly find women who wear glasses unattractive?

I actually don't like to wear glasses, but because I don't have good eyesight, sadly I need to wear them. This is because wearing contact lenses is very difficult, and it is not practical too, so I have no other choice then. If you are a guy, do you think a woman with glasses looks less attractive than the ones without them?

Prescription for my left contact lense is: BC: 8.5, DIA 14.50, Sphere: Plano, Cylinder: -.75, Axis: 070. Is this lens necessary?

My right eye has a negative number in the "sphere" box, and helps with my vision. The left eye being "plano," doesn't seem to help my vision, if anything it just causes a little discomfort. After my research, "plano" means there's no change to eyesight and therefore would be pointless to pay for and wear.

Is the two week contacts limit based on the time I open the package?

So i wear contact lenses part-time. I have the two week contacts that should be replaced every 2 weeks. However, since i don't wear my contacts full-time, can they last longer? I have done research and have had different answers. Some sites and articles say its from the time I open the package. However, Sams club says it refers to the actual amount of wearing time. So is the contact good for 2 weeks only, whether I wear them or not? Or, is it good for 14 wears, which means they would be good for several months to years?

Ohio Class D license, with class B restrictions how to get it removed if needed?

Ok, in Ohio can't find information on how to get Class B restriction removed from a class d license if you get corrective surgery done that improve the eye sight to where you no longer need corrective lenses

Thank you for your time and any answers the Ohio BMV site is not clear on some these issues.
Added (1). For get a to add the type of corrective surgeries, LASIK and implanted lenses
Added (2). By Implants mean things like IOLs. Sorry for the many updates and a Class D is just your normal drivers License in Ohio for everyday drivers. This last update should clear things up fully. Long day and multitasking.
Added (3). Ok no one is getting a best answer, first guy provided no useful info and second guy was just mocking and no links to helpful things applying to Ohio law.

Though did find that for some reason in Ohio IOLS count has corrective lenses for somethings but wasn't fully clear gotta love how things are sometime written in ohio.

Anyway thanks for the answers
Added (4). Last update just incase anyone looks at this and is curious. In Ohio according to the main OBM office finally got someone helpful for a change the highway patrol exams centers are the only ones that can give the exam to remove the restriction from the license. So even more of a hassle then just going to the local OBM now a-days

They may even make you retake every possible test also according to one of the exam centers that was gotten a-hold of. Not just the eye examine
Added (5). Well looks like the Ohio BMV scared off the person was finding out for going to wait for the corrective surgery

MOT Advisories - how serious are these?

Hello,

I;m thinking of buying a car which has just had an MOT done, which resulted in the following advisories. Is anyone able to help and tell me whether or not I should be concerned? The car is 2004, VW with 56,000 miles on it. Should I expect to have to pay for repairs soon after purchase?

ADVISORIES
1)Nearside headlamp has a product on the lens but not seriously reducing light output (1.7.5a)
2)Offside headlamp has a product on the lens but not seriously reducing light output (1.7.5a)
3)Windscreen has damage to an area less than a 40mm circle outside zone ''a'' (8.3.1d)
4)Rear exhaust box outer casing corroded

This is also listed on MOT doc, which caused the car to fail its MOT but has since been replaced, is this also ok?

1)Nearside front anti-roll bar linkage ball joint dust cover excessively damaged so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (2.4.g.2)

Can Refresh Liquigel be applied over contact lenses?

Just as the title says, can this drug be used while wearing contacts or is it necessary to remove contacts before applying?

Another VERY IMPORTANT question- this drug has NOT been prescribed to me. Me and this friend, we went together for a routine contact lens evaluation to the doctor, the doc asked the friend to stop using contacts for 15 days and prescribed it to him. For me he just wrote another prescription for contact lenses, no drugs.

Is this drug (Refresh Liquigel) safe to use without a prescription? I applied it once over my new contacts, and my vision went completely blurry for like one whole hour, but my eyes felt great- hard to describe, it feels as if someone's put a very soothing cold ointment in the eyes, and the lenses retain the "moist" feel for a VERY long lime.

Is this an unethical sales tactic?

so I'm selling a lens. I asked it as $450 and had two people contact me. There names are lets say, Bob and Steve. Bob messaged me first, saying he d like to come and have a look on Monday, which worked for me. Very shortly after, Steve messaged me as well saying he was willing to pay the full $450 and would like to look on Sunday. That also worked for me. I decided that I would let them both look, if they both saw it, decided they liked it and were willing to pay he full $450, the lens goes to Bob as he is first in line. However, if they both look and Steve is willing to pay $450, but Bob is only willing to pay, say $350, it's in my best interest to sell it to Steve instead as he is offering more. I told Bob that I had another buyer interested, but he was first in line, unless Steve offers more, which Bob was very upset over and said it was an unethical sales tactic. I do see where he is coming from, but is it not just a standard thing in sales to go with the higher offer? Is this actually so unbelievable and unethical of me?

So yesterday I dropped my daily Acuvue contact lens into my wet bathroom sink but I didn't wash it in the solution cos I assumed tapwater is clean. I And I actually went ahead to put it in my eye and wore it for like 3 hours. I'm a new contacts wearer. Did I pick the wrong type of glasses frame?

So I've had my current/old glasses for about 6 years, and at my most recent eye test (3 weeks ago) I was told I needed a stronger prescription lenses. Which is fine. I decided to choose some completely different glasses frames this time which are quite big rounded glasses whereas my old ones are narrow rimmed.

Once I got my new ones, I was happy thinking they will look great but noticed that they seemed to make me strain my eyes a little. I have given myself time to get used to them but I'm not sure I feel comfortable with them because I can see the sides of the glasses and they seem so sharp in focus!
I almost feel like I'm being fussy but I was wondering if the type of frame in the glasses could be making me feel like I can't relax in them because it's making me not feel right especially outside.
I bought my glasses from specsavers, would they change the frames if I said I wasn t able to relax and focus with the ones I chose?

Does anyone clean and re-use daily contact lenses?

Here in Singapore, one month worth of daily disposable lenses cost more than Americans pay for a single pair of glasses. If you buy only 90 days worth, the doctor wants to repeat the exam before you can re-fill. The cost is outrageous.

The cost of peroxide based cleaning kits is about the same as you pay at Wal-Mart. Go figure?!

Just about everyone either re-uses them 2 or 3 times, or they visit the third world (Malaysia, Indonesia, etc) and buy cheap lenses.

Btw: I went with my friend to Malaysia, last week. They did not have my prescription. The guy tried to tell me they are "close enough".
Furthermore the boxes were maked with an expiration date only three months away. Needless to say, I did NOT buy them.

Any experiences with re-used lenses?

How to convince parents to get contact lenses?

I had this talk with my parents about contact lenses a few years ago, but they think it's harmful to the eye.
I want them because I think glasses are such a hassle. As much as I don't like to admit it, I take off my glasses a lot and hold them around (I don't like wearing them or holding them). I can already predict my parents saying to just wear them.
I also scratch my glasses a lot, and I hate how they dirty so easily.
I think contacts would be more convenient, and I have a lot of friends who could advise me with putting them on/taking them off.
I still don't know how to start the conversation of contacts and how to convince them enough.
