Why can't I manage to put contact lenses in?

Im 15 years old, I'm near tears because I hate wearing glasses but I cant get contact lenses until i go to specsavers and put my contacts in and out 3 times in 20 minutes or less in front of the optician but i cant even manage to do that? I've been twice already and failed miserably, the first time I couldn't even get one in and the next time I managed to get only one in but that took half an hour and then I couldn't get it out and had to get one of the opticians to do it for me, am i the only one who'se failed the contact test two times? Any advice or tips on what I can do, I begged my mom to let me go again but if I can't do it this time she's not taking me again and I need these contacts because I have awful eyes so I can't go without glasses. Help please?

Why does this happen to my eye? Pic included?

It's not very clear, but it looked bloodshot after I finished my shower…
I got shampoo in my eye and I rubbed and rinsed my eye. Then when i got out of the shower, I rubbed it again and my vision in that eye was blurry for about 20 seconds. This is not the first time that happened.
*I wear glasses, prescription is +5 in both eyes.
*The first time it happened was with my contact lenses.
How do i prevent this from happening and will it make me go blind eventually?

My left eye is -4.50 and my right eye is -4.75. Can I wear -4.75 in my left eye for a couple months and be okay?

Back story - I bought a year's supply for my left and right eyes last August but most of the left ones are defective and have tears in the lens. Walmart won't help me. The tears make it impossible for me to see and protein builds up on the tear. I can't get more until August when my insurance gives me money.

Contact lens keeps getting scratched?

So I've been wearing contact lenses for about 10 years now and every once in a while the right one would get scratched, be it from dust or dirt or mishandling it.
Recently I put a lens in and within 48 hours it got scratched to the point where it was so blurry it was unusable. I put another in and that one lasted only a day until it was too blurry to use. I've done this with an entire box (6 lenses) this past week.
I have medium length hair that comes down in the front to my eyebrows, but isn't long enough to touch my eye. I don't have any pain or irritation in /around the eye area, and it's always the right lens, I've never had the left one scratch on me.

How long does it take until I can pick up my glasses?

A little under two weeks ago my sister and I went to the eye doctor. It was a typical exam, of course. Tested our eyes, made us look through several lenses to see which one is better, wrote down what lenses we needed. He took us into the other room to pick out glasses frames and told us how the process went. He had to get our lenses in that are the shape of our glasses and what not, but I was wondering how long would it take to get the lenses made, put in, and ready to pick up? Thanks a bunch.

Ortho-K lens not fitting + off-centre?

So I've been having problems with my left ortho-k lens. Instead of staying centre it keeps shifting off-centre to the bottom left of my cornea. It affects my vision slightly and it causes my left eye to go sore easily. I tried resetting (not wearing it for a couple of days) and then trying it again, and that didn't work. Yesterday I tried my other backup lens and that didn't work either… But when I put it on yesterday I didn't wait long enough to fully "resit" it. I only waited for a day and decided to give it a try. Is it possible that the shape of my left eye has changed for whatever reason? I'm just trying to see if it's my eye or the contact lens… It's really expensive to get a new one so I just want to make sure I gather all information available. :/

Can I wear my old pair of glasses?

I accidentally sat on my current pair of glasses because the black frame blended with the black couch/sofa. So, now the left frame, the part where you put the glasses on my left ear, is bent downward and the left lens is sort of bent as well. I found an old pair of my glasses from a very long time ago. I put my current, broken pair on and then the old pair on. The result seemed to be the same. I was going to go to the optometrist to get a new pair of glasses, but since the old pair of glasses fit and looks exactly like my current pair, I don't think I should go. Should I go to the optometrist or not? Will my eyes go bad if I wear my old pair of glasses instead of current, broken pair of glasses?

I have pink eye, can I wear contacts?

I got pink eye on sunday, went to the eye doctor on monday, and started using antobiotic drops on monday as well, (i have the bacterial pink eye). I havent worn contacts since sunday, however my eyes are improving fast. Both of my eyes arent really that red/pink at all anymore. They dont stick together in the morning, and I rarely get a discharge, Im going on an airplane friday night, and I was wondering, if i keep using the antobiotic, do you think I will be able to wear my contact lenses FRIDAY NIGHT, to the airport, itd really only be 8 hours in the contacts, or until i went to bed, so do you think its okay as long as I use new contacts? I havent worn any eye makeup/used contacts since sunday and I am not planning to until friday night. What do you think?

Why is my contact lens prescription different from glasses prescription?

i understand that because contact lenses are closer to eyes they are less. But he is the question.
i have contact lenses that are both -4 on both eye. But on glasses it is -5 for one eye and -5.75 for the other. Yes there is correction for austigmatism and etc. But like why on contact lenses both eyes have the same prescription and i can use just one box of contact lenses for each eye. But with glasses each eye has different prescription

Was my doctor being rude and should I trust his judgement?

I went to an eye doctor and I think he was being a jerk. First thing I told him is that when I sat at medium range-far range at school from the board I could see it mostly fine. Then after I failed the eye exam he basically asked me now what do you say about seeing the board fine? I told him that I still saw it mostly fine at school and he just yelled at me and did not trust my judgement, saying "no you do not see it fine at all" when I seriously did and it wasn't too noticeable(my vision problem).

Then he yelled at my dad and I and acted like my dad was depriving me of life and putting me at a disadvantage because I haven't seen the eye doctor in seven years and then he asked me if I saw things up close fine and I said yes and he said "no you do not see them fine there are still some problems!" I have astigmatism btw.

He then showed me basically what my lenses would be and said "THIS IS HOW THE WORLD SHOULD LOOK" and just preached and preached to me about how I think this is how the world looks with my "uncorrected" vision when I should really see like this(with my corrected vision).

Do you people suggest that I stop seeing him and stop trusting his judgement or is he right?

Contacts for amblyopia?

I have lazy eye (esotropia) and when i was younger i never wore patches or glasses until i was around 8 years old and then it was obviously too late to correct my eyes and i regret it. I'm not sure why but i feel extremely insecure when infront of people because i feel like i look ugly with my glasses. Anyway, i wanted to get contact lenses because i feel that it would make me feel alot more confident. I've not done much research into contact lenses for amblyopia but i have a very strong prescription and i cant even have slightly bigger glasses because the lenses would weigh them down. Would it be possible to get contacts with my prescription?

Using ortho-K lenses and my left lens keeps shifting off-centre…help?

I've been using ortho-K for five years (maybe six…) and I haven't had any trouble wearing them until last November, where my left contact lens shifts slightly off-centre and moves to bottom left of my cornea, which cause my eyesight of my left eye to decrease as well as soreness. I've tried removing my left contact lens to "reset" it but it doesn't seem to work. It would work for the first day and then the second day it'll become shifted and off-centred again. I tend to have dry eyes so I tried eye-drops that moisturize my eyes but that didn't work either.

This is only happening to my left eye, not right. I have both nearsightedness and astigmatism and my left eye is heavier in degrees. (I think the nearsightedness is about 500 ish and the astigmatism is about 250-300, can't remember the exact degrees.)

Anyway. This is really becoming a huge problem for me because right now I think my left eye tires easily because its eyesight is not as good as it can be. What else can I try to make it work other than resetting? Any help or tips or advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Does a lower lens glass mean better eyesight?

I went to the optician about a month or so ago and they measured me for a 1.5 lens on both eyes.
I went again yesterday and they measured me for a 1.25 lens on both eyes.
Does this mean my eyesight has improved?
Added (1). And which one should I choose. I already have a glass with (Sph) 1.5 lens and now, should I get another one with 1.25 lens?
The 1.5 has 0 on both Cyl and Axis, but the 1.25 has different values on both eyes in the Cyl and Axis boxes.

Do guys find girls with glasses unattractive?

I have noticed that girls who are popular among guys are the ones who don't wear glasses usually. I don't want to be seen as a nerd, but unfortunately I need glasses to see something far away. The only another choice is contact lenses, but I am not comfortable wearing them. I have consumed vitamin A and some vegetables, but my eyesight is still not becoming better. Sometimes I don't take notes from the board at school because I am not confident enough to wear my glasses, I worry that people will think I am unattractive if they see me I am wearing it.

Sale associate for eye glass lenses are forcing me to buy polycarbonate lenses?

I am 14 and I live in New York city, I have prescription eyeglass and I need to get new ones I have a prescription to a pair of glasses and my lil sister does to she got her glasses with out the polycarbonate from another store and I need to go to this store to get my lenses they are forcing me to buy.a polycarbonate pair and they are charging me about $30 and I don't have any money ( I am a broke kid) I do have insurance for the glasses but not for the poly, I do have a pair of poly glasses those I am wearing right now. I know the new York state law does not mandate polycarbonate lenses, but I never told them about this and now I need help what to say back to them to nit charge me for the poly and to get regular plastic lenses

My prescription is expired, and when I called Wal Mart to get a box, they informed me since it's expired I have to come in for another eye exam, and go thru the process all over again.
I find it ridiculous that I've gotten 3 eye exams, every single year, and my prescription remains the same.
So I went to 1800contacts.com and entered in all my info, my prescription info etc.
And then they wanted my doctors info. They won't give me the contacts, because the prescription is expired.is there any way I can just order them online?
My vision is the same, I still have a few lenses left and I find no change in my vision.

I've received a letter from the British Army telling me that I am medically ineligible to join - their reason: JSP 950 Part 6 Ch7 Leaflet 4 Annex A. Para 4A.02 (3)

I don't really understand this decision - I can see adequately without my glasses… I'm also in the police force and I've never had a problem with my eye sight… I've decided to get my eyes checked by another optician, because my father has recently switched opticians and found that that his prescription had been incorrectly administered to him (our former optician had given his lenses too strong for his eyes).

What do you think guys? Should I appeal? I really want to serve my country!

Okay so i wear biomedics opti-free pure moist contacts. And i use pure moist multi purpose disinfecting solution, but it usually dries my contacts up like lets say when I'm watching tv it dries em and i have to blink and rub my eyes and it goes away. My right eye has been feeling dry and irritated lately and so I want to try to give it a break from contacts and see if that helps. However I am going to an aerobics class later so wearing glasses is out of the question. My vision is the same in both eyes, is it ok to just wear my left lens to the class? I would be driving. i was given glasses at the age of six, and the lenses were a quarter of an inch thick, and over the years they got thinner and thinner. How to get him to back off and get some help?

Ok, so I met this guy about 2 weeks ago, we hit it off, he complimented me a lot, flirted etc. I really liked him. We met up on saturday, and it became clear that he has a lot of issues. He's from an indian religion - arranged marriages, banned sex/kissing, no friends outside the religion, controlling parents, etc. It's impossible for him to leave the religion without losing all chances at his future. Plus, he has zero self confidence, little eye contact, constantly puts himself down, etc. I'm really concerned for him (and obviously I don't see him in a romantic lens anymore).

After we met up, he sent me a lot of messages apologising for talking about his "miserable life", for his lack of eye contact, and said that I "make his life not worthless". I ran into him today at a society - he mumbled a lot, wouldn't look at me and looked really nervous. He said his weekend was terrible but wouldn't elaborate. He then texted me later, apologising for "mistreating" me and for how rude he was to me today and that he spent the past few days just thinking about me.

I've literally known him for about 2 weeks and this is a bit much. I'm pretty sure he has feelings for me and I kind of want to tell him he's not ready for any relationship without completely ruining him. Obviously I feel terrible for him, but at the same time, there's a limit to how much of his crippling self-depreciation I can take. Plus I'm concerned with how heavily he's investing emotionally in me.

So, the only way we can confirm evolution is by looking back at the history of life forms. By means of examining the fossil record.

1) The Cambrian Explosion which even Darwin thought was an enigma and would eventually be solved as fossil hunters increasingly searched sedimentary Precambrian exposures. What do we find however? 150 years on from 'The Origin of Species', the enigma is as true today as it was then. 3) The eyes of lower Devonian trilobite Phacops rana are very, very advanced. But hang on a minute, the Devonian is the mid Palaeozoic and animals are meant to 'mutate' into more complex forms with time! Phacops rana had compound eyes that were able to swivel. Furthermore, each lens was made of a single calcite crystal, which, close to the outer edge had an increased proportion of magnesium ions substituting for calcium ions thus altering the refactive index enabling Phacops to focus almost perfectly. How could this have evolved? Where are Phacops' ancestors with slightly less complex eyes?

Could technology advance so far that teachers couldn't keep kids from cheating on their tests?

What if they came up with some sort of gadget, who knows what, maybe some sort of crazy black light contact lenses that came with a pen that wrote in ink that could only be seen through the contact lenses, and it was so advanced and so easy to sneak passed a teacher that they couldn't possibly know you were cheating? Would they just stop giving us tests?
PS: I'm not a cheater. I actually get really good grades, but I still hate taking tests lol.

What happens to light when it enters your eye?

i don't have a perfect knowledge of science but i think i have a basic handle on how light and the eye works. Photons are reflected from objects. These photons enter your eye and the lens in your eye focuses these photons onto the rods and cones in the back your eye. Your brain interprets this as an image… But what happens to the photons that are hitting the rods and cones? Does your body just absorb them or are they reflected back out of your eye after they hit the rods and cones?

Spectacles part paid for with NHS optical vouchers/?

I had a dispute with Specsavers over their 2 for 1 offer and free reactions lenses with £99 frames. Basically Specsavers overcharged me, I did not realise it at the time but thought the cost was rather expensive seeing as I had 2 optical vouchers, one for distance and one for reading. Anyway when I got home I was able to work out the exact cost from their website based on their current prices and deals and found I had indeed been overcharged by £25.70 not a lot I know, better in my pocket than theirs. I rang Specsavers to complain and asked to speak to the manager who disputed my claim leaving me no choice but to demand a full refund which he agreed to, this is where it gets a bit iffy.

I got the money part I paid refunded on return of the glasses but the manager has kept my NHS optical vouchers which have obviously been cashed in. What is really astounding is, there is no way to complain about this misuse of public money. You can complain about a GP, dentist, hospital or pharmacist to the NHS, you can even complain about the optician who tested your eyes to some optical council, but there is no way to report people who may have fraudulently claimed money off the NHS in your name. There is no accountability, no checks in place, no way of checking up on this. I might be wrong, but I can't find anything on the NHS website that covers my particular situation.

How can I make sure Specsavers have not used my vouchers to claim costs off the NHS?

if I have dark eyes an I get the acuvue 2 colors I know emerald green doesn't do shitttt I am wondering will the aquamarine or the dark blue one or whatever make the dark eye maybe have some type of cool something?

When did you get glasses?

I havnt got glasses but i think i need them. I can see things clear but words get all blurred up far away. I sit at the front of the class so i can see but when im not i just copy from my friend. I hardly ever watch tv so its not a problem. Should i get them now or when my eyesight gets worse?

Acuvue Oasys or Advance inside out marking?

Hi,

Im looking to get contacts and Im very interested in these two brands. I dont know if I need astigmatism or just regular.

My question is do these have the 123 markings or something on them to tell if they are inside out or not? Do they have a tint that will tell you this?

I can never tell if contacts are inside out by looking for the bowl shape or U shape. I need markings on the contacts to tell me this.

Why do my contact lenses go foggy?

Im using the monthly disposable ones and I don't wear them everyday or for a long time in the day. Just 4 to 5 days a week, from 7am till 5pm.

Just recently when I'm wearing them, they will go foggy, mainly in the left, but only foggy around the edged in my right.

Also sometimes when I take them out, they are either yellow or pink.
I do wash my hands thoroughly.

Is it possible to get headaches from wearing contact lens?

I have been wearing contact lens for 6 years. Never used to get headaches from them. Now days whenever I wear contact lens the next day I have eye pain and an awful headache that lasts 1-2 days. I don't understand why it's a problem now. When it was never an issue before. One other thing I noticed is my eyes are itchy and dry these days. That could be spring allergies. Have no idea. Maybe I should go see a doctor?

Is 20/60 vision with corrective lenses bad?

I went to the eye doctor because im having a hard time seeing out of my left eye. She tried readjusting my rx but said the best she could get me to was 20/60. Although she said i was at 20/30 looking through this paddle with pinholes in it. What does all of this mean?

How long can i use a contact lens case for?

not very sure, so i need to be more certain…
how long can 1 contact lens case be used for? I did some research… Some ppl said 1 month, some 3, some used for years… Can i have a more accurate answer please? Thanks! :D

Regularly Miscentering Hard Contacts and Headaches?

I wear the nightly hard contacts and am terrible at placing them in. In fact, I've only placed it directly onto the pupil once out of the 4.5 months I've been wearing them; otherwise, I have to recenter them.
Oftentimes I recenter in a way that the lens may stick to the inner corner of my eye. I now have headaches on the right side of my head. Should I be concerned that my poor contact inserting is affecting more than just my eye?

What the heck, evolution?

Okay, so I get the idea of "we started out small and simple, and through natural selection certain traits were chosen" and all that. But how exactly did we get complex things like eyes and brains and organs? I can get if certain bacteria can be photosensitive, for example, but eyes don't just pop up, and wouldn't a half eye be pretty much useless?
Added (1). (okay, what I meant by the "wouldn't a half eye be pretty much useless" is, wouldn't it not be able to perform its full function if it wasn't fully "made"?)
Anyway, thank you, that makes much more sense:) So, are you saying then that other things such as organs and the brain and stuff appeared like that? (now what bout things that NEED to be fully formed? Like, say, a heart.)

What if I forget to clean my contact lenses and put back into the case?

So, I was in a hurry. Took out my contact lenses and immediately put back in to the case,forgetting to clean. Only when I got home then I remembered. But that is like 1hour later. Will it affect my eyes the next time I wear? Please help,thanks!

Concerned about my daughter's vision?

My teenaged daughter recently complained about poor vision. We took her to an optometrist and it turns out that she needs a prescription for myopia. We tried asking the optometrist how severe her nearsightedness is, but he brushed us off by answering in very vague terms (he was quite busy).

Being a parent, I want a more detailed answer. Is my daughter's vision quite badly impaired? Does she need correction all the time, and if so, is she a good candidate for contact lenses.

Here is the prescription:

Right -1.50 -0.25 Axis 180
Left -1.00 -1.25 Axis 180

We were thinking about ortho k lenses to prevent further deterioration. Is that a good option?

Can wearing wrong prescription/power contact lenses make me look fat and wider?

I have myopia and a power of -8. Yesterday, I wore contact lenses of a power -6. Everything appeared wider?
With the contact lens, everything appeared wider but not taller. My hand felt huge. So, everyone felt a little disproportionate.
Can you explain how this works? Is it because I had not worn the correct power of lens. Or has it got something to do with those stuff like cylindrical, axis powers,etc?

I have also noticed, that without my glasses, things do appear slightly bigger but of course everything is in proportion so it is no problem. But why does this happen?

If you can explain this in term of physics, all the more better!

Eye boogers and contact lens?

So one morning an hour or two before I usually wake up for school, I was kind of half awake and I tried to open my eyes to check the time but my right eye was stuck. I had to wipe away the eye boogers before I could open my eye. It wasn't super horrible although I still had to scratch some of it off. This usually doesn't happen.
When I got up and put in my contacts, my right eye was a bit uncomfortable and then it hurt all day. It wasn't unbearable pain like I needed to go to the doctor, but it was very bothersome pain. My friend said it might be because I didn't get enough sleep, which I didn't. But even on other nights when I don't get a lot of sleep this did not happen.
I took it out twice and cleaned it and put it back in but my eye still hurt so I just took it out for the rest of the day. The next day, it did the same thing. And just now I put them in and it hurt the same. But when I put in my left contact it was so painful to the point where it hurt to blink so I quickly took it out and discovered a bit of eye booger on it. I washed it off and put it back in and it felt better. I also washed my right one again and put it in. Now it's not so bothersome.
But I'm just wondering… Why did I get that random layer of eye boogers that glued my eye shut that morning, and how did it affected my contact lens? I do not have pink eye and I have only been wearing contacts for about 5 weeks and I've had these specific ones for 2 weeks and they were fine until that morning.
