How do I read my eye prescription?

So I recently received my medical documents from MEPS and I had an eye examination during the processing. I also have no idea on how to identify if I use this for eye glasses or contact lenses.
Here's what it said:

Auto refraction
Right: By -9.00 S. -0.25 CX 123
Left: By -8.00 S. -0.75 CX 013

And on a separate note:

MR -7.75 -0.75 x 180
-8.25 sph

Why do I only need reading glasses when I have my contact lenses(to correct shortsightedness) in?

I've been short sighted since 14 and worn contact lenses. However, now I'm in my forties I'm getting he usual age-related problem with books etc, but have no problem when I take my contacts out.

I assume I'm being really dim, but I've googled this and can't find an answer. Someone put me out of my misery.

My hard contact lense went down the sink. What should I do?

I remember I turned off the water pretty quickly after I dropped my lens. So I think it might be there in the tubes.
If I do find it in the tubes, can I clean it and use it again? But I have this insurance where I can get 2 free contact lenses if I lose mine. Should I just use the insurance or should I look in the tubes to find my lense? If I do find it, can I use it again after cleaning it?

I'm nearsighed and new glasses make things up close blurry, why?

I spent a little over a week without glasses as the new ones, for some reason, took a while to be made. Anyways, as the question states, I'm nearsighted and my new glasses help be see things that are far away but when I bring things closer to my eyes (with my glasses on) like my phone or a book, everything becomes blurry. Almost as though my eyes were crossing. It's weird. I'm 17 by the way and this has never happened to me with other glasses. So, I was wondering, should I go back tomorrow and see what's wrong (I got them today) or should I give it a couple of days as this is normal? Something to note, I have a very strong prescription and the new lenses aren t as thick as they usually are Thank you!

Contact Lenses Power? - 1

Ok so I've been wearing glasses for about a year now and just reordered my contacts. I'm nearsighted so things are blurry the farther they are. I'm blinder from my left eye. So now I had a question on which contact I should wear on which eye because of different powers. One is -1.50 while the other is -1.75 Any help or links would be greatly appreciated.
