Looks like I'm failing the amsler grid test. Should I go see my doctor?

Okay, if you look up google for an amsler grid test, the instructions are fairly straightforward- cover one eye, look at the central spot, with the other eye, if any of the lines appear distorted, you have a problem.

I have VERY HIGH myopia and need to use -5.50/ -5.25 spectacles all the time, even for reading the computer screen. I'm 32 years old, and can see everything perfectly fine when I'm wearing my glasses, but still m failing the amsler grid test.

This is the amsler grid m using. Have not printed it out, m using it straight from the laptop's screen. Http://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/amsler-grid.htm

This is how it looks with one eye closed: Looks like I m failing the amsler grid test. Should I go see my doctor

Have tried with both my contacts and glasses, the same distortion as depicted in the attached picture is present in both.

What could be causing this problem? Is this serious? Do I need to see my optometrist again? My last visit was just about 20 days back and I was given the "all clear" and got my contact lens prescription renewed.

My college son is going crazy with his fashion, how to get him to look descent?

My son who has turned 21 is literally going crazy with his looks, when he started college, he was descent looking, well dressed, fat & chubby. But over the 4 years he's started all this nonsense fashion trends he sees on the TV.Doing all these 'undercut' hairstyles, thick beards, wearing thick frame no power glasses, magnet ear rings, lost like 30+ kgs of weight, he used to weight over 110 kgs but now weighes 75 kgs. He lately he didn't go to the salon for like several months & has long hair which he ties up, he says its called 'man bun' whatever (isn't that what we women do?) & his beard is quiet thick. I was shocked by the way he looks but he gets constant compliments from people of his age, obviously the young generation… But that is clearly not descent. He keeps telling me he is later going to get tattoos over certain parts of his body & real piercings and lighter eye lenses. I clearly am disturbed to the thought of him doing that. The body is the temple of God & he is spoiling it with all this fashion. He is a real good kid even after all this crazy fashion, he doesn't smoke, he admits he occasionally drinks in 2-3 months only at parties, does fine in studies, but by the way he looks just makes his persona the opposite of what he is.I'm not against fashion, but I feel he is going over board, what would others (other than ones of his age) think? How do I make him understand that he is spoiling his image & is getting too carried away with the media, but he rather be himself?

Astigmatism related?

So i have new lenses, i have mixed astigmatism +1; -4.0 and +1; -4.5. So i have difficulties to get used to my lenses, sometimes it becomes blurry - when it does i always check it they are in correct position and yes they are. So my friend advised me to buy new lenses which have only minuses like -4.0 and -4.5 without +1 s. She has astigamtism as well and had a same problem and she said that her doctor recommended her to get the minuses only and she did and she has no complains and still uses her lenses well till this day, so i want a quick answer if any of you have heard of something like that and will it not affect my eyesight? Cuz i mean if i have astigmatism those +1 s are there for a reason and. I dont know which doctor told her that and before i go to mine please if you have any info or are a doctor answer this question. Thank you

Can you join the Navy with an intraocular lens?

My husband has always dreamed of joining the navy. He worked for a heating and air company right out of high school where he had his eye scratched by a piece of sheet metal. He had to have surgery to fix the scratch and they inserted a silicone intraocular lens. We started talking to a recruiter this week and when he asked about any eye injuries we told him about the lens. He didn t seem too worried about it, he just wanted us to bring in documentation from the surgery. After reading a little online this could be disqualifying. If this is so, how come the recruiter didn t flat out turn him down? Does he have any chance of a waiver if MEPS turns him down? My husband is extremely smart and scored very well on the asvab, he would have a lot to offer. I should mention his condition is not progressive, and his vision is 20/20 correctable. Thanks!

How to change your eye color without serious surgery?

I know about lasik but I saw pictures of people who got them and they ended up having a red clot thing (sorry i know that's bad grammar i just dk what it's called) in their eyes. I dont want that. Also, i know there are serious side effects to nearly every surgery, that's common sense. I just want to know if there's a way to change your eye color without it looking unnatural. Cause I could get surgery alone, and just tell others my eyes just changed haha. Don't judge me. Thanks for all answers, mean or not.

I have pain in my eye. Please tell me what's going on?

Started wearing contacts about 2 months back. One eye is fine, but since yesterday, i have a very mild but continuous pain in the other. It's hard to pinpoint where this pain is coming from, sometimes it feels like it's coming from the cornea, sometimes it feels like the whole eye is paining, sometimes it feels like it's coming from the eyebrows and the bone under the eye.
The eye is not red, and not watering. It looks perfectly fine, and I can see everything clearly with that eye (checked reading with the other eye closed, can read distant signs clearly).

Another thing, the problem eye blurs up after removing the contact lens, ever since I got them.
Vision using glasses is blurred for like 2 or 3 hours with glasses, and then it clears up. This doesn't happen with my other eye. And I've checked with my optometrist (about the blurring, not about the pain), she's checked my eyes under one of those gizmo things with colored lights that you see in eye doctor places, and said both eyes look fine and i can continue wearing lenses.

The lenses m using are ProClear.

Could someone please suggest what's up?

Will getting my lenses thinned reduce the magnification of my eyes?

So I have really bad eyesight (farsighted) that magnify my eyes and they give me the (bug eye) affect so I went to my opticians but my optician said it wouldn't make a difference in terms of taking photos but one of the assistant professionals said it would reduce the magnification a little (which is good) he helped me about the price of the lens thinning but he also mentioned that a plastic lens would help reducing the magnification of my eyes.

I looked up on the Internet and apparently aspheric lenses work.

First time wearing circle lenses?! My eyes started hurting and pouring tears?!

For the first time I put my I codi colors of the wind (15mm) circle lenses (my first pair) in my eye after trying for about 20 mins and then it was So UNCOMFORTABLE! My eye started getting red and pouring tears and I got it out. I didn't damage my eye or sight but I am so scared now. What did I do wrong?
Btw, my eyes are apparently small or can't open much because the lens appeared as 1/3 of the eye, that is why I had problems puting it, but I did everything correctly:( I am scared of trying again, I don't want to damage my eye and I want to wear circle lenses

Will not wearing glasses make my lazy eye worse?

When I was younger, I had a squint and the doctor told me to wear a eye patchs on the good eye to force that bad eye to work.

The patches never worked, my squint is unnoticeable now, but my right eye is suppressed; I only use my left eye now.

Because my vision in my left eye is good, and I can read properly and see things properly with it. I felt there was no point of wearing glasses as I was told my right eye will never work again. I haven't put on glasses for a year now.

But does not wearing glasses make my vision worse, will I get a squint again?

Is there too much stress on my left eye. But wearing glasses never made my right eye work anyway.

I'm going to the opticians soon and I'm worried what they might say. Will I be told to wear glasses again but just for reading and writing? Should I get contact lenses if I don't want to wear glasses, but I'm nervous about putting fingers on my eyes and poking my eyes.

I don't get hadaches or anything and I haven't noticed any changes in my vision. Does bad vision eventually turn blind?

Should the police be redesigned?

ok I'm in the uk but how would you feel about this happening where you live? Because the police are in general suffering from a negative image, what with corruption and racism they need to redesign themselves, rebrand themselves, new police siren, appearance etc. My two ideas are 1. Police dressing in white adidas tracksuits with blue piping and white nike air max trainers with a blue tick and a black adidas baseball cap and carrying glocks, like those seen out of menace II society. And having lots of bling, gold sovereign rings, a gold dollar chain, and grills and carrying a phone with a single song on it, which could work as a siren for on foot, the song could be something like dizee rascal sirens, the bill theme tune or the detectives theme tune, which would also replace sirens. This would make them seem cooler, friendlier, less intimidating and modern. My second idea is to have them wear black balaclavas, woodland dpm combats, black steel heel and toe capped boots, black t shirt, jumper, jacket, gloves etc and have red contact lenses and carry m16s with a grenade launcher, and armour piercing incendiary bullets. And again a new theme tune. The first idea for officers could drive chavved up corsas and the second could drive Humvees with machine guns mounted on them. Sorry for the long question, but been thinking about this for a while. So… Like either of these ideas? Thanks in advance.

Dropped a contact lens in a dirty sink. Now what?

It's a monthly lens, and has been used just once (pack opened on 13/3/2016).

While inserting in this morning at this friend's place, my upper eyelid slipped from my finger and my eye instantly blinked on its own, the eyelashes hit the lens on the tip of my other finger and damn, the sucker fell on her super dirty sink.
Can I disinfect it by soaking in Renu for a few hours and use it again? Or do I need to throw it away?
I'm on a tight budget and the lens is pretty costly:-/
But on the other hand the sink is super dirty, there's mossy patches and toothpaste stains on the sink and it's just yucky.

Are contacts not available for -0.25 cylindrical power?

My prescription for glasses have a -0.25 CYL component.
I'll go get a contact lens prescription next Sunday, and this will be the first time I'll be using contact lenses.
M looking at contact lenses online (of course can't purchase them yet, got no prescription, just looking at them to find out the one I like and then ask my doc to write me a prescription for that lens, at his discretion).

None of the lenses have a power of -0.25CYL, it's either NO cyl, or a minimum of -0.75 cyl.

So, does this mean I cannot use contact lenses, and must use spectacles all my life or as long as my cyl prescription doesn't reach a minimum value of -0.75?
Added (1). Jesk, thanks for replying, but it looks like there are contacts available with CYL, they start from -0.75 CYL.
How bad is your cyl power? If it's worse than -0.75, i guess you can use contacts. These are called "toric" contacts, google them.
My prob is that my cyl= -0.25, and these "toric" lenses have a minimum of -0.75 cyl component.

And im gonna start taking these supplements/stuff aswell:

*Ginseng (from "ESI")
*Aronia Tea
*Krill Oil (from "Muscletech")
*Perwinkle tea / or i can keep the plant in my room, along with the rosemary.
*Im also going to quit eating sugar unless its half a 75% dark chocolate a day (as in 3 rows of it) , or if its from whole fruit.

Feel free to suggest non-synthetic supplements.

Also ive come across these supplements while looking intu Opti-Mind, Alpha Brain and the likes, and its really predictable to see people overlooking good evidence against these products (research manipulation, criticism censoring +(celebrity endorsements.

How to prevent dry eyes while wearing lenses?

My vision in one eye constantly blurs up while wearing a contact lens-blinking a couple of times restores vision for a few seconds. The other eye is fine.

Thought this is being caused by a bad lens fitting and went back to my optometrist for a re-evaluation.
The optometrist diagnosed DRY EYE SYNDROME and prescribed an artificial tear drop called "Refresh Tears", to be used 4 times a day.

This is not working for me. Well it does work, but it makes things good for only about half an hour, then the blurriness returns. It's impractical to keep applying an eye drop every half an hour, i need a fix that works longer.

Is there a permanent fix for this dry eye syndrome thing?

PS: This blurring up only occurs in ONE eye, while WEARING a contact lens. If I'm using my glasses, there's absolutely no problem at all. The other eye is fine even while wearing contact lenses.
Added (1). I've already seen my optometrist and he has checked out my eyes. If this was an infection, he'd have spotted it and asked me to discontinue lenswear, Wouldn't he?

Is it normal to go completely cross eyed after wearing contact lenses?

About a month ago I decided I would ditch the glasses and go onto contact lenses, due to the poorness of my eyesight I was given a thick pair of monthly contacts to try, I've had them for about a month now and everything is great, I can see perfectly, I went to work this morning and did not have enough time to put my contacts in, this has been the first time in a month when I have not worn them for a day and when I took my glasses off, I was horrified to learn that my right eye had gone completely cross eyed, I did have a slight squint beforehand but now I look at it, my eye has developed into a complete cross. Is this at all alarming? I do want to be able to carry on wearing contact lenses because glasses are a hassle sometimes and so far have had no real problems but this really scared and upset me:(

Why is BC=8.4 so rare?

Every contact lens I'm looking at is BC=8.6 or more.

8.6 doesn't fit me. I have tried so many brands of 8.6, they work fine on my left eye, but are way too loose on the right. They move a lot with every blink, and my eye begins to hurt.

8.4 fits me fine, but I'm having a very hard time finding an 8.4 BC lens in the silicone hydrogel category.

I can assure you, 8.6 won't fit in my right eye, i have tried so many 8.6 lenses, they invariably fail, and All 8.4's have worked so far.

Could you please name some silicone hydrogel lenses (monthlies) that are available in BC=8.4?

I'm in India, and doctors here are absolute MORONS. They don't even measure the BC, and don't do trial lens fittings. If you ask for a contact lens, they simply write the power, no BC, no DIA, nothing. The patient is free to purchase whatever lens he wants. And retailers here don't require a CL prescription as well, you can randomly pick a CL from an online store or any eyewear shop.

I figured this "8.4 works" by trial and error, no trial lenses, i just kept purchasing boxes and throwing them away, until i found one box that doesn't hurt my right eye, and that's 8.4.

Since then I've tried a couple more brands with 8.4, they all have worked, but none are silicone hydrogel.
Please give me names of some 8.4 BC silicone hydrogel lenses I can try out and check if they feel comfortable.

thank you.
