Are my glasses too weak? Shortsightedness?

So I've had my prescription about 6 months and one eye is stronger than the other. However, I have realised that when I'm at school I can't see the board clearly. If I shut each eye separately it's not very clear and even with my eyes open it's still quite blurry once it gets a certain distance away. After playing around with a pair of my brothers glasses I realise that it's much clearer with his pair over the top of my pair (both myopia prescriptions) and I can see much better. Also if I shut my worse eye and look through the right lens (worse eye) with my left eye I can see clearly through it and it's about a -1.75. Now I'm confused as to what that looks like as I can't see through a -1.75 lens clearly with my worse eye.

I've tried a -1 prescription glasses and they didn't do much at all - except for making my left eye clearer. I have an eye test appointment next week but I'm worried the optician will say my prescription needs to stay the same even though I can't see. I'm sorry if this is confusing 😬

Why don't they make car headlight lenses of glass like they used to? Or, do the mfgr's get kickbacks from the restoration product co's?

Glass can be blown into almost any shape. A reentrant circle or square like on an older car's headlamp was far more difficult to do than a simple one-sided lens.Glass is much harder than any plastic, they used them since antiquity.

Should I get the expensive lenses for my daughter's new glasses?

I'm a single mother so money is a real problem. My daughter's eyes got worse recently and her numbers are now -2.75 and -3.00. The assistant at the eye doctor was trying to convince me that she needs special lenses but I don't want to get them unless they're absolutely necessary.

Just for context, I wear the most basic lenses in my -4.50 glasses and I don't buy contacts for myself but I do for my daughter so that she can wear them on special occasions.

Would I be a bad mother if I didn't get the special lenses for her? My glasses look very thick with the basic lenses but I'm hoping hers won't be so bad since her vision is better.
Added (1). I would feel guilty if I didn't get the expensive lenses because I feel like she gets her terrible eyesight from me
