Why is it that with the perfect squint, your vision gets better?

Well I'm a senior in high school, and I've had glasses since the seventh grade. I should be asleep right now, but I'm lying in my bed and there is no light on. So I glance at my cable box and see the extremely fuzzy time on it, but cant make it out, but if I squint the perfect squint I can tell it says 5:47. Why is that?

Sleeping with my Contact Lenses in?

Hi. I've been having an issue with sleeping with my contacts in for a while now. I have the tendency of taking short naps (about 1-3 hours a day) with my contact lenses in and I can't help it because I sleep unexpectedly. I've never slept with them in for regular sleeps (8+ hours), just naps. I haven't had any issues with my eyes since starting to take naps with my contacts in. I know sleeping with them in is a bad thing but, I was just wondering if sleeping 1-3 hours with my contacts every day is really damaging. Oh and I use Air Optix for astigmatism. Thank you!

Walmart Colored Contact Lenses?

I have some questions about colored contacts sold at walmart. I have dark brown eyes and I want blue eyes. I want Desio lenses, but the ordering process is sketchy because you can only pick one prescription per pair of contacts and each eye is normally a different prescription, for basically everyone. That's pretty stupid.
Any way, I was wondering if Walmart sells OPAQUE (due to the fact that my eyes are dark, I need opaque lenses) colored contact lenses that look realistic, like Desio ones.

ANYONE WHO IS/BUYS CRUELTY FREE Please - Contact lenses?

Please read the whole description of this before answering.
I want some opinions from people who choose not to support companies that are not cruelty free. Of course, opinions from everyone are welcome, as long as they're logical.

I have pretty bad eyesight and have been wearing glasses for years, but really want contact lenses as glasses still, after all this time, are uncomfortable and annoying for me, and I can't seem to be able to put up with them. I have been thinking about getting contact lenses for the longest time, but I'm aware that there are no brands that produce contact lenses, that are also cruelty free. I have found one, pretty sketchy (daysoft? Something) website of a brand that doesn't test on animals, but I would only feel comfortable ordering and buying contacts from/at my opticians. Not online.

I wanted your opinion on this;
If you're cruelty free, and really badly wanted contact lenses, would you purchase them even if the company tested on animals?

I ask because I don't want to support a company that tests on animals, so the answer I can guess will be no from most if not all of you.
** It's just that I know that medical stuff has to be tested on animals before human use (which is stupid and unnecessary, we all know).
Medicine you are given by your doctors for even the common cold will have been tested on animals, because all drugs have to be. Yet you still wouldn't deny that if you were sick.
Therefore, I wanted your opinions on this.

New glasses are giving me a slight headache/making me dizzy?

I can't tell if this is because the left lens are slightly out of focus while the right lens is super sharp or if it's because I have a new prescription…

My old prescription was L: 7.50 R:9.00
Now the new one is L: 7.75 R:9.75

How long should I try these new glasses out to see whether it's the prescription or just my eyes adjusting to the lens? Or should I just straight up to back to CostCo (where I got them from) & ask them to bump my 7.75 to a 8.00

I know I said slightly out of focus but reading words at certain distances if I just close my right eye, I struggle reading it while I don't struggle if I close my left eye so…
I don't know.
Added (1). btw.
I'm just guessing that I need it bumped to 8.00 It might even be 8.25 idk. I was just throwing out a prescription as an example

I can't see with my contact lenses?

So a few days ago my contacts arrived. I had contacts befor (long time ago in the past) and I remember that I could see so much better with them. I am farsighted and can't see **** with my contacts. My vision is not HD with my contacts. I can't read some things with my contacts and with my glasses I can. I called my eye doctor for my information and got my contacts online.

I'm 14 years old and not allowed to wear makeup?

I can wear eyeliner. But things like foundation, concealer,BB cream, and powder are a no no. I have acne scars, dark eye circles, and weird parenthesis around my mouth I really want to cover up. Unfournately, my mother says that if I wear makeup like that at this age, I'll look 80 years when I'm 25. I really need makeup for cosplay, though. I can't look like the characters without it. I can't wear makeup until I have gratuated from high school. What can I do? (not allowed to wear contact lenses, either.)

Caring for contact lenses?

I just got my contacts today (clear, soft, daily ones) and I wanna know if I heard what the doctor was saying correctly.

At night before I go to bed, I take off my contacts and clean them with the solution with my palm. Then I fill my lenses case with the solution and put my contacts in the case and soak it until I put them back on the next morning. That morning, I clean the contacts again with the solution and put them back on. I throw the old solution in the case away and air dry the case.

Is this correct? Please let me know!

Oh and during the day when I have my contacts on, I'm planning to just leave the case at home while I'm at school. At that time does the case still have to be filled with solution?

Accidentally used Clear Care contact solution in place of normal solution. What do I do?

I'm currently staying with my friend who uses Clear Care disinfecting contact solution. I didn't know that it was any different to normal solution and used it. Earlier when I went to put my left lens in my eye, it stung like crazy and I took it out. Now, roughly 10 hours later, it doesn't hurt or burn anymore, and i can see just fine out of it, but it's really red. I go home tomorrow and my parents will freak out if they see my eye. My friend doesn't have any eyedrops to make the redness go down, is there anything else I can do to make the redness go down? And should I be worried about my eye?Accidentally used Clear Care contact solution in place of normal solution. What do I do

Contact lenses and computer screen?

Hello,

I recently got contact lenses and have started to get eye strain from being on a computer (which being a programmer for a living, its not a choice whether to be on the computer or not). In addition, I see worse with contacts than I do with glasses despite having a stronger prescription on contacts then on my glasses. I have never had any eye strain before with glasses or even before I wore glasses.

Thanks!

Prevent falling ill (or contracting Ebola) in Portugal?

Me and my family are going to Lisbon for 2 weeks (vacation) very soon and they have suddenly become very paranoid that there will be a risk of catching the Ebola virus. Nobody there's infected yet, but we fear that it might spread very fast and we wouldn't know until after the maximum of 21 days. Portugal is rather close to the epicentre of the outbreak.
Anyway, what precautions can we take when we're on holiday? I wear contact lenses usually, but I've heard that it's a bad idea if I don't want to catch a disease or even a cold (I don't know why), probably due to touching the eye? Thanks.

Is it okay to try on someone else's contact lenses just to get used to putting them in your eye?

I've never had contact lenses before and I am having trouble putting them in my eyes during visits with an optician. I've gone in three times over a period of three weeks and haven't been able to get them in, the optician just tells me to leave and "practice" at home by touching the side of my eye after being there for 20 minutes each time. This just seems silly, I can easily touch the side of my eye now without blinking but I still am not used to the feeling of putting contacts in when I go to these appointments. They won't let me take my trial contacts home so I'm wondering if it would be okay to use one of my boyfriend's daily disposable contacts JUST to get used to putting the contacts in, I will not be wearing them all day as they aren't my prescription. Is there anything wrong with this? Can it damage my eye? I seriously wish they would just let me take my trial contacts home so I could just spend two hours trying to get them in at home rather than going into their office every seven days for 20 minutes.

Are these contact lenses safe? - 1

I am not concerned of the size and all, I will figure out if they will fit my eyes or not, but is this website reliable, are these contacts what they claim to be (Non-prescription costume contacts) Do they last as long as they say they do, and are they just generally safe to wear?

I have never worn contacts in my life, so I don't want my first experience doing something like this to result in blindness, that would be a bit useless! If anyone knows of the website, then it would be greatly appreciated if you could tell me if these are not going to be a waste!

Am I wearing two different brands of contact lenses?

I recently switched to soft extended wear contacts from RGP lenses. The brand my optometrist prescribed is Air Optix Night and Day.

According to some information online. All of these lenses have an "OK" indicator on them to tell if they are inside out.

My right lens has that OK indicator as well as a marking that reads "CIBA Z443"

However, my left lens doesn't have an OK indicator at all. It does have a marking that reads "CIBA Z447" instead.

I would think that if these were the same brand of contacts they would have the same markings and indicators on them.

Is it possible that I may have been given the wrong lens?

The best I can describe is a feeling of dizziness, but I don't feel dizzy and lightheartedness, but I don't feel like I'm going to pass out. It's the feeling when you have anxiety and feel like you're not here.

The place I work has fluorescent lights and I think that might be a contributor. But, I have Acuvue lenses and have always had an issue with them. How are toric lenses weighted? What material are they made out of?

Hi! I've recently taken an interest in how contacts work to correct vision. I was reading about different lenses and what they correct when I came across toric ones. I understand what they correct and how (at least, a beginners understanding so far) but how would you weight a contact lens? Is the material thicker at the bottom? Also, what material are they made out of and what material could be added in a non professional setting to weight lenses that would not irritate the eyes? (That last part is hypothetical… I'm not crazy or stupid and I won't be putting anything in my eyes at all as I actually like my glasses. I also wouldn't put my sight at risk like that.)

If anyone can answer these questions, I'd be really grateful.

Thanks in advance! :)

Glasses all the time?

Ok so i just went to the eye doctor like a week ago and i found out i have -5.25 left eye sphere and -5.50 right eye sphere and no astigmatism so anyways I've been wearing glasses since third grade and i was always suppose to just wear them for movies computer and school. So when i visited the eye doctor a week ago the nurse was surprised i wasn't wearing them all the time already. But anyways i didn't wear my glasses last year so my mom told the nurse and it looked like she wrote it down my mom thinks that I've never wore my glasses but I've had in the past. So then my eye doctor comes in and is like so you don't wear your glasses. So he said something about how he would normally say to wear them all the time but since i don't wear them in school to only wear them in school. And he said something about if i wear them to start wearing them all the time in like a complicated way but idk if my mom got that. So do you think i should wear them all the time? And do you think if i wear them in school my mom will think to wear them all the time?
And idk if this helps but I'm 14 years old

Hard bump in private area? Ladies please?

A couple days ago, I was wiping after I went pee. I thought I caught a hair and just pulled it, I didn't think anything of it.
Then yesterday I started my period. I was shaving my "down there" (I'm 14, shaving is just a personal preference) and I saw a red spot. I couldn't see very well in the shower, since I have glasses/ contact lenses. So I felt it and it was a hard bump. I finish my shower, put my glasses on and see that this thing is just inside my outer fold on my left side. The bump was the size of a pea, and there was a red spot on it. (On a zit on your face, where the white part would be, that was where the red was on this.) The bump was also the same color as the rest of my "down there", except for the red spot.
I don't have any odd symptoms, like itching or anything. Thanks for your answers!

So I want to give contact lenses a try, but feeling nervous?!

A little background info. I'm 25. I've been wearing glasses since I was about 11 on and off. Mostly on, but sometimes in the wrong prescription (too weak). I've always needed them, but funds and insurance had been an issue up until a couple of years ago. I also have an astigmatism. It's not super sever, but without my glasses there is a noticeable degree of fuzziness, my night vision is really bad, and I can't read road signs.

The little annoyances of glasses have always bothered me but I've put up with it because I wasn't willing to try alternatives. But I Think I've finally had it. In my line of work, they fog up constantly and get splattered a lot. I think I'm finally ready to try contacts.

I made the appointment for next week yesterday, but I'm feeling so nervous! Can someone put my mind at ease regarding what to expect during the contact exam? What will my OD do? Will it feel weird? Is there likely to be a problem because of my astigmatism? Could something go wrong? I've had a lot of eye exams in my life, but never a contact lens exam. I think I'm feeling more nervous about the exam than trying contacts in the first place!

Also, I know my OD will go over this with me, but what should I be considering regarding the contacts themselves? I've heard that GP lenses are a lot better for astigmatism than soft lenses, but that they're also a lot harder to get used to. Any input there? Or maybe it won't matter because my astigmatism isn't very sever?

Thanks guys.

Axis in new contact lenses?

I'm currently living in Japan, and I went in an eye glass and contact lenses shop to have my prescription updated.

New Prescription:
Right Eye: Pwr: -6.50, Cyl: -1.75, AXIS: 180
Left Eye: Pwr: -7.00, Cyl: 1.25, AXIS: 180

Old Prescription:
Right Eye: Pwr: -5.50, Cyl: 1.25, AXIS 160
Left Eye: Pwr: -6.50, Cyl: 1.25, AXIS: 030

There is a huge difference in the axis between my old and new prescription, when I asked about it, while picking up my lenses, they said it didn't matter, is that true?

And frankly my new lenses are a little uncomfortable and go blurry and have to readjust if I move my eyes or blink, is that do to the axis?

Wrong contact lens prescription, is it an issue?

So I had recently received a pair of color contacts that I had ordered for a costume. Only when I saw the container I had realized I put in my old glasses prescription, not my updated contact prescription.
The prescription I had put in for my lenses is slightly weaker, would it be alright to wear them just for a few hours so I'm not completely blind?
Or would it cause issues for my eyes?

My updated prescription is:
R: -4.00
L: -4.25

And the ones I had ordered are:
R: -3.75
L: -3.25

Thanks for any help!

Seeing double with glasses (myopia)?

A bit of my background, I'm a 17 year old student who has been wearing glasses since the age of 12 after getting myopia. Over the years, it is getting worse rapidly, which is no surprise for someone of my age. However, I was shocked after finding out from my optometrist that my dioptre had went from -1.50 and -1.75 to -2.25 to -2.75 in LESS than a year. But what I've noticed is that my eyes can't concentrate on the white board at school as well as I used to with my old glasses. I'm starting to see double. To be more specific, the images both my eyes generates are merging together at the centre, especially when I'm reading words on the board, and I often need to give myself time to work it out or concentrate till my vision goes back to normal. The same thing happens with contact lenses. It sucks so bad because I can't watch movies at the cinemas or even concentrate on my school work. I'm going to University next year, so definitely can't get Lasik even if I wanted to… I just need answers as to whether this is due to the glasses or that there's really something wrong with my eyes:(

Glasses, specifically lenses?

I am heading to the store tomorrow to purchase glasses (long overdue). I can't remember off the top of my head, but my script is either -2.5/+1.5 or +2.5/-1.5 (I really think it is the first). Basically, I want a little 'lens' advice, from my fellow freaks (or anyone who is familiar with a similar script difference). It is my intention to purchase both sunglasses and regular glasses. My project for tomorrow is sunglasses.

So basically, what do you recommend?

I get headaches from my prescription. My eyes are also highly sensitive to light. I don't drive frequently (work is 1/10 of a mile). These sunglasses would be primarily for driving (regular sunglasses most of the time).

Do I go for the more expensive lens? What about for regular glasses? I've had glasses with a lesser script before. One with the regular lens and one with the thin lens (I have never tried 'ultra thin', but I think those are out of my price range for sure). They both looked silly because of the way they are designed.

I was thinking I would do the regular for my sunglasses and try the thin for my regular glasses. Or do they thin one lens, perhaps that would look better? I wonder if there is a way to disguise the differences…

Any suggestions for people who have similar problems? What has worked for you?

Thank you in advance!

Should my contact lenses feel like this?

Okay so I recently got contact lenses. I've been wearing glasses for about 2 years now. I put my contact lenses in for the first time a few minutes ago (with a lot of difficulty) and now it feels like I have something stuck in my eye. Like the feeling you get when an eyelash or some make up gets in your eye. Is that normal?

Also, I have nearsightedness (which basically means I can't see things that are far away). But now with these contacts in, things nearby (eg my phone or a book) look kind of blurry and weird as if my eyes are watering (even though they're not).

Is this a permanent thing or are my eyes just adjusting. Is there anything I can do?

If it helps I'm wearing soft lenses that need to be changed monthly:)

Want to change myself when school starts?

Ok, so I've always been shy. Even though I have good friends that are popular, they never invite me to parties (not because they are mean or anything, I'm sure it's because they know I'm not at parties so they don't bother asking…). I don't go to parties because I'm shy, I'm afraid of drinking (I'm 17 by the way), and I think everyone have so much more experience in everything than me, so I know I'll feel lonely and just sitting alone. That's what have happened on all parties. I've been sitting alone since people drink, have fun, talk to each other, and yes, have a lot of fun. I have braces, I use glasses (or contact lenses when out with people). People don't hate me though! I'm very kind, so they're very kind back. I'm not super happy with my look. Or actually, sometimes in some mirrors, I'm the sexiest man on earth. But like now, I'm ugly as heck.

I know I've said this a lot of times: I'm gonna change and get confident. But it never happens. I want this time to be different. I'm getting my braces off a week before school, and one of my best friends (who is a very cool guy, has a great look, and is very popular) is moving to the US for 1 year. Because of these two things, and the fact that we've had summer now, it feels like a good moment to finally change. I want people to think "Wow, what's happened to him?". But… In case I fail… How do I do this? What will people think? :\
