Can you make eyesight worse by wearing strong glasses?
I came across a website where people talk about wearing higher prescription glasses to deliberately make their eyesight worse, mainly because they like the look of coke-bottle glasses on their faces.
So, for instance, if your prescription is -2.00, you wear -3.5 for a year or so, then go for an eye test and your sight has become worse. And so on, over the years.
They say your eyesight is unlikely to get as bad as the glasses you wear, but the trick is is to always "stay ahead" slightly so that your eyes can accommodate the stronger lens, allowing you to see OK. This causes greater dependence on the stronger lens, which makes your sight worse over time. Many of those who say they do this are in their teens and twenties, simply because they like the idea of wearing strong glasses.
Quite apart from the issue of whether it is wise for young people to do this, my question is: does this work or is the idea of that you can make your sight worse by wearing strong glasses really an old wives' tale?

What do Daily Disposable Contact Lenses come with and when do they expire?

^^ I am planning on getting these Optics O2 (disposable) contact lenses, one box for right eye, another for left. I want to use them only for special occasions. For example, so far, I'm planning to use them on graduation and Eid. What do these boxes come with, just the lenses or with the contact holder thing (the two circle containers with the letter R and L. Sorry dont really know the name haha) and with the contact cleaning solution? Is the expiration date usually within a month, a year? My parents are really cheap and getting these are already pushing it.

I'm a contact lens user, and blood vessels are approaching cornea. Should I be concerned?
M wearing contact lenses about 6 months now. They are Cooper Vision Frequency 55 lenses, 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. Blood vessels are appearing near the cornea, but have not yet entered the cornea.
Google search suggests Limbal hyperemia can be a precursor of corneal neovascularizzation, which might in turn result is permanent contact-lens cessation or in the worst case necessitate a corneal transplant.
The blood vessels are more pronounced at the 12 o'clock region. For reference, I'm including a picture of my right eye, if you set the monitor brightness of the computer at a moderately high level, you should be able to see the blood vessels quite clearly.
Here's the picture:
I've seen my optometrist, and he insists as long as the vessels are not entering the cornea, I'm fine and I can continue lenswear. But I don't want to take chances with my vision, hence m here for a second professional opinion.
Vision/Comfort is unaffected-my lenses still feel comfortable and vision is still crystal clear wearing them (or glasses). My myopia is - 5.50 SPH/ No cyl in right eye, -5.25/No cyl in left eye. I don't smoke/drink alcohol/take any prescription medication, and don't suffer from any other diseases that I'm aware of.
Added (1). Oh, forgot to mention, I'm 32 years old.
Added (2). Thanks David, my optometrist tried with Avaira and AirOptix, but i couldn't get used to them. They felt like foreign bodies in the eye, and produced a "burning" sensation. I was comfortable in Frequency55 and ProClear. He picked Frequency55 as it's a bit less expensive and I don't have dry eyes. In the end, it was his choice, not mine. All I told him was I didn't feel comfortable in Avaira and AirOptix.
Added (3). Does this look dangerous? Should I stop using lenses and return to glasses full time? Please advice.

Need to tilt my head to see clearly out of new glasses?
I recently purchased a pair of HD progressive glasses. Details as follows:
Old Glasses:
1.67 plastic progressives with AR coating; worn for 4 years
OD Sphere -6.00, Cylinder -.50, Axis 095, Add 2
OS Sphere -7.25, Cylinder -.50, Axis 085, Add 2
New Glasses:
1.67 High Definition plastic progressives with AR coating
OD Sphere -5.50, Cylinder -1.00, Axis 090, Add 2
OS Sphere -7.00, Cylinder -.75, Axis 090, Add 2
The old glasses had become slightly overcorrected over time as my eyes had improved slightly; something I had not heard of until my optometrist said this was common as your eyes age (I am in my early 50's). Despite the overcorrection, however, the glasses did not cause me any discomfort or eyestrain, other than the fact I had to look through a lower part of the lenses than I would have normally if the lenses were not overcorrected. Despite the overcorrection, once I found the appropriate level on the progressives, I could see pretty much equal out of both eyes.
I have been wearing the new glasses for about 3 days now. There is no doubt the overall vision is better than with my old glasses, as I don't have to tilt my head up as far to see clearly. However, I am experiencing major eye strain especially at the computer or while looking at anything close up.
I tried covering one eye at a time to see if I could notice anything different. If I look straight ahead at the computer screen, for example, I can see clearly out of the left eye. With the right eye, however, I am unable to see the screen clearly, no matter what level I look through the lense, unless I tilt my head sideways to the left. But doing this then skewers the vision in the left eye.
Bottom line - I can't see with clarity at short range while looking at something straight on with the right eye. I have to look slightly sideways.
Do you have any suggestions as to why this is happening? I have been back to the optician and they say the measurements etc of my new glasses are correct (digital measurements were used; a first for me, but apparently 5 times more accurate than manual measurements).
Needless to say this problem is causing me a fair bit of anxiety as the glasses were very expensive and I really need to be able to get them right. As well the eyestrain is so bad, I am having to revert back at night to my old glasses just to get some relief, but I know this is not recommended as it delays adjustment time.
Any advice or help would be appreciated!

How many times can I wear daily contact lenses?
Okay, so I'm in a bit of a situation. Over the next 2 months, I have a lot going on. I'm graduating high school, I'm going to prom, I'm starting a new job… And as of right now I only have less than 2 weeks worth of Aqua Comfort Plus Daily contact lenses. I just found out that my prescription has expired, so long story short I can't get new lenses until after June 27th.
My question is, although they are daily lenses, could I put them in contact lense solution after I wear them for a few hours and then use them the next day… Or something like that? I am really freaking out here. Of course I have glasses, but they are painfully annoying to wear. I need to somehow stretch less than two weeks of contact lenses out over almost 2 months.

Do I need extra info for my replacement eye glasses lenses?
I know info for my left eye. I.e. The sphere, cyl and axis however, I only know the sphere for my right eye.
Just knowing the sphere for the right eye would this be enough info to replace my eyeglasses lense?

I ran out out of contact solution! What do I replace it with for just one day? - 1
Added (1). My play is today and I can't wear glasses onstage (the lights cause too much of a glare). I can do without them ok, but I would much rather wear contacts so I could actually see. I have a brand new set of contacts. I could get solution this evening (practicing all day today and performing tonight). I heard you needed to rinse a new pair before putting them on. Could I just put then on without rinsing them then rinse them tonight? Could I make my own temporary salt water solution?
Added (2). They're soft lenses

How to deal with allergies while wearing contacts?
I never had a problem with contacts until I developed allergies last summer. I would get monthlies and I could wear a pair for 45 days instead of the intended 30 days. The last summer I ordered my annually year supply and went through it in 2 months.
Needless to say, I was very shocked and confused. I went on for a year going through contacts like m&m's and I assumed I must've developed allergies because before my eyes could handle everything. Just got confirmed I have allergies after a year of pain. So now monthlies last about a few days a pair (3 days if im lucky). And to get to the point, is there anything I can do to better my allergies so my eyes can handle monthlies or even 2 week lenses? I really adore the aqua colored lenses b/c they look natural on me so I'm very hesitant to switch over to dailies completely. My eyes are blue but look grey from a normal distance so it just really annoys me. I know seeing good is more important than looks but I can't help it! Does anyone know of ways to make eyes feel better when wearing contacts? Sorry if my explanation was ridiculously long and all over the place, I've just come to my wits end!

Why does object seem bigger when wearing contact lenses?
I just started to wear contact lenses. I had it ten years ago but then stopped wearing it after a while since it was very expensive. I just restart it now since there are far fewer people wearing glasses now.
However, with my contact lenses on, everything seems a size bigger than without the contact, i.e. My wrist, especially my face seems larger than without it or with glasses on, or the tv remote looks larger as well. Some of them seems slightly out of proportion too.
I have mild astigmatism -0.5 in both eyes. I am not sure if it is the cause of the problem. I could watch the High Def tv picture with the same sharpness as with glasses. My doctor said I don't need toric lenses.
Could someone tell me if it's indeed caused by astigmatism and need toric lenses or something else? I never tried toric before.
Thanks a lot.
Steven

Can I survive without glasses for a month?
I'm currently living with my mother's family in her country of birth (got here a few days ago). The only problem is that it's a conservative society that considers females who wear glasses to be very unattractive. I know that I'll be bombarded with "advice" on how to heal my eyes if I leave my room wearing a thick pair of specs. I want to avoid the drama by not letting anyone know that I'm nearsighted. I'm obviously wearing contacts but will I be able to continue to wear them for 12-14 hours a day without a break for a month?
I was hoping to be able to squint and improve my vision when I don't have them on in the evenings and nights so that people don't notice I can't see. Are there any other ways to improve my visual acuity temporarily (apart from squinting which may be too obvious!)
Also, I decided to visit an optician because it's so much cheaper to get an exam and lenses here and he made it seem as though my vision was unusually bad. It did get worse but I'm still not sure whether it's as serious as he made it out to be. He kept saying that I have a very "high power" and that glasses "are a must" even when reading. The rx was:
R -3.25
L -4.00
Now, it's:
R -4.00
L -5.25
Is it really going to be such a problem
Added (1). Isn't -5 close to the average prescription in the US? Maybe the optician was surprised because people in this country don't use the internet as much as we do!

How to remove hair dye off eye glass lenses?
I dyed my hair black last night and I realized I had gotten two black dots on the lenses. It is driving me crazy. I have tried toothpaste, finger nail polish remover and just washing them. I do not want to ruin the lenses and I cannot see without them. Does anyone have any remedies to get them off?

My vision gets blurry close up with contacts? - 1
I just posted a question yesterday about my left eye bothering me after getting contacts.
Now there's another problem.
I can see very well far away. But when I'm using my computer, everything on the monitor seems blurry, especially from my left eye. I have to lean back like 2 feet away just to be able to type this. If I'm close up, things start getting even blurrier to the point where I see nothing at all. Is this normal? And I don't know if this is important, but I am 15, and I'm a first time contact lens user.

If forced, is it better to wear contacts lenses that are weaker or stronger than your prescription?
I want to order some circle lenses and my contact prescription is 6.25 OD and 6.75 OS. But my only options are either a 6.00 or 6.50 for my OD and either a 6.50 or 7.00 for my OS. Any suggestions on which way I should go?

Should I get single vision glasses or progressive lenses?
Okay i went to the eye DR yesterday. He said that i have farsightedness. And suggested reading glasses i have always been suggested reading glasses. But then he told me i needed progressive of bifocal lenses. I have 20/25 in L eye and 20/20 in R eye I thought bifocals were for older people (no offense) he said that since i am a nurse and my need changes from near to distance it would be better for me to get progressive lenses the top being hardly any correction and the bottom being more like reading glasses. The alternative would be reading glasses single vision that I would have to take off or move to walk… Does anyone here have progressive lenses just as reading glasses?

Is this some form of joke?
I'm fairly old but I know how pranks and jokes go viral fast. I just had a pretty weird encounter.
It's 1:24am here and someone just knocked on my door. I would have ignored if it wasn't for the person to ask me if they could use my phone. It sounded like a young child, so I instinctively thought something horrific happened and they were in danger. So I opened the door without thinking. When I opened the door, two young, gormless-looking children once again asked if they could use my phone. I would have agreed, but the fact they were wearing black contact lenses gave away their little prank. I quickly looked past them expecting to see someone filming my reaction. But I couldn't see them, so I just locked the door back up and now I'm writing this.
Can you give me a link to this prank being pulled on someone else. Or a name for this prank please. Thanks.

Could this be my right prescription?
So I ve had these one glasses that I ve had since forever I seriously can t remember how long I ve had them I want to say middle school. I m 21 now. But I ve use the same lenses when my frames would break I would just go buy a new frame because it was Cheever. But about two years ago I got an eye exam and I bought new glasses and everything well when I put them on and stuff they didn t look right. Like the prescription seemed a little off honestly. Like it felt weird looking out them. Plus I didn t like how big the frames were so I never worn them just went back to my old ones. But just last night I lost them. So I have to resort back to these ones I don t like at all. Could it be my right prescription or could it just be j need to get used to them because I ve gotten used to the ones I ve used for so long, yeArs.

How to figure out what the problem for my lens irritation?
ok so I have monthly contacts for astigmatism, but everytime I switch them out for the month, the contact in my right eye floats around and doesn't just chill in one spot. But my left eye is oerfectly fine and normal. I think it's because it needs to fit around my eye & im assuming that takes time. But it makes my eyes water and irritates the hell out of my eye. Can't just call and set up a eye doctors appointment because my doctor is in another town.
