Is not getting another prescription from the doctor harmful?

I have been increasing the number on the prescription from now about 6 years. I was -0.5 and -1.75 and I just got a new prescription six months ago. From a fee weeks now, I've been noticing that I do not catch the smaller figures written on a TV screen or any farthest place unless I strain my eyes or get closer and sometimes my eyes get watery.
Now is it alright if I do not go to the doctor and get new lenses for the glasses because I'm afraid that my parents wouldn't like it. I use my mobile phone at night, in my bed in the dark, though my mom has stopped and I never listen. I sometimes study without my glasses and I've told her that I'm shortsighted but she wants me to wear my glasses even then. I don't want to displease them and then I use my mobile phone a lot and I'm afraid she'll take it away because I've been straining my eyes a lot.

And apart from everything else, I'm afraid of getting a higher number! I don't want my vision to get any weaker but it can't be helped!

Should I go to the doctor again or is it alright to wait for another six months for my annual check up. And would you like to give me some tips for the future that would PREVENT my getting more short sighted? Thanks.

What other Acuvue contacts can I try for dry eyes?

In May I got contact lenses for the first time but since I got overly "excited" for finally being able to wear contacts I went ahead and bought them while I was barely on the second or third day of my trial pair. They were Avaira contacts by Cooper Vision and so since I had already bought the box I never went back to tell my eye doctor how they worked out for me. I ended up hating them because they were very uncomfortable and stuck a lot to my eyes because they would dry out so taking them out was very painful. But since I had already bought the box I stuck with them for 3 months. Today I went back to the eye doctor and I told her about this and she gave me a trial pair of Acuvue Oasys. They feel a lot more comfortable and they make my eyes feel a little tired but not as much as the Avaira did.My eyes still feel kind of dry though and so I don't know if it's because these still aren't the right kind of contacts for my eyes or if washing my face has something to do with it? (My face tends to get oily throughout the day so I wash my face with just water about 2 times a day) and because of that water gets into my eyes and for some reason makes them feel dry even when I'm not wearing contacts but with contacts getting water in my eyes they feel even drier.So I was wondering if anybody could help me? Could it be that I should keep the Acuvue and just buy some rewetting drops or should I get another type of contacts when I finish with my trial ones? Are the Acuvue Advance or Acuvue Moist any better? Also can someone answer my question about why washing my face with just water makes my eyes feel dry? Thanks to anybody who can help. (just some extra info, I live in Dallas and the weather here is very hot and humid)

Which do you like better: Thick or thin glasses?

I'm getting new glasses tomorrow and I'm not sure on the style of glasses I should get. I'm definitely getting black glasses with minimal style on the sides. Last time I got thick famed glasses and maybe I just picked the wrong size, but my glasses tends to slip down every once in a while and the lenses look a bit big compared to my eyes. Would thin glasses be a better choice if I wanted to look more mature? (thick glasses, I think, makes me look younger than I really am)

I have cylindrical power of -0.25 with an axis 170 on both right and left eye.My Optometrist has suggested me to wear glasses all the time..Can anyone please suggest me if i can get lenses for this power. Did my astigmatism get better?

Ive been wearing biofinity toric for about 2 years now and they've worked fine.My vision isnt perfectly crisp but is pretty good and have been happy with them for the most part. Recently though my prescription had run out on biofinity toric so I went for an eye exam. I was wondering is it normal or likely that my cylinder power for astigmatism correction would decrease. Keep in mind I had an eye exam a little over 2 years ago and my cylinder was 1.75 in both my eyes but this was my old doctor where i used to live. Yesterday I go see a new doctor and my prescription she writes me is exactly the same as two years ago but the cylinder decreased in both eyes to 1.25? Did my astigmatism get better in two years? Or are these just two different doctors with varying opinions on my cylinder power? Im asking because before I reorder my lenses I want to make sure Im getting exactly what is right for me, and also because the price of toric is significantly more than normal contacts. I also would like to add that ive worn contacts for around 10 years, and although my spherical power has change much in that time frame, my cylinder power has been 1.25 for 8 of the 10 years ive worn contacts, but for the past two years I have been wearing 1.75 cylinder after my 2011 exam.So 1.25 or 1.75? would I notice much of a difference? With spherical power I know I can but .5 of a diff in cylinder power?

Does the BC on contact prescription have to exactly match? ordering online?

So i want to order my contacts (Acuvue Oasys) online, but my BC is 84140 and the only option is 8.4 or 8.8 (for right eye). Technically, it's 8.4 right? What do the other numbers at the end mean? And does it matter if I just get the 8.4?

How to NOT blink when trying to insert a contact?

Hi!
I'm 15 and have been trying to use contacts for 3 years (on and off) now. I have awful eyesight, to the point where I can't function at all in a school setting without glasses. Some people look great in 'em, however I am not one of those people haha. The first time I tried to get contacts, even with the help of my eye doctor, I tried for an hour straight before he had to move on to his next appointment.

It just won't go in! So, I left the doctor's with solution and a practice lens (no prescription).At home, even though I've tried so hard for the past 3 years, I can't make any progress.

My eye has a violent reaction to the lens as soon as it touches, blinking furiously so that the lens can't go in. I can touch the white part of my eye super easily, and even if I do that daily I still can't train myself to not blink when the lens touches.
Can anyone share different techniques or advice that helped them finally use contacts successfully? My upper lid is what's super sensitive and shuts quickly.

Do i need a separate prescription for colored contact lenses of the same brand?

I have a prescription for acuvue oasis contact lenses. The same brand offers colored lenses, 2 colours enhancers and opaque. Should i get a new prescription for colored lenses or can i use the one that i have since it's the same brand?
PS i switched through different types of acuvue lenses a few times before, was getting a new prescription every time just to be safe, and the information (size wise etc) was the same.
Added (1). Thanks Diana, i didn't know i could try on a sample. All though, if they don't correct the vision, i wouldn't be able to see much of myself in them anyway lol

Trouble/reactions associated with First time contact lens trial?

Recently i got my first contact lens trial with my optometrist.To my experience it was horrible and i have few ques regarding what i experinced:
I would like to mention that i have been operated for keratoconus cornea also called as C3R or crosslinking for both eyes.
When my doc put the first lens on right eye, upto that part it was normal. I had some discomfort and blurry vision first time but it was pretty much bearable. Next lens was put on the left eye 10min after this. Everything started at that point.
3-5 min after applying the second lens, i started feeling uncomfortable. The feeling was coming from somewhere inside my body. Soon this feeling was growing fast and i started asking if i could get some water. But the most horrifying part was yet to come.
Its really hard to explain what condition i was passing through But it was almost like to 'pass out'.My ears started buzzing, i was experiencing a fast repetitive sound.It was not vertigo as nothing was moving around me but i had highest degree of unsteadiness/unconscious feeling of my life.My heartbeats were faster than ever before. Even at a point i suddenly put down my head on the desk nearby me. But i was concious enough to talk to doc and i asked her to remove contacts.It took 3-4 min after removing contacts to come to normal, my BP was normal(after immediate check up) but my hands were shaky.
Now my ques are-
1) what the hell was that I had to go through?
I asked my doc she said its called as 'v___ attack'.I could not figure out that v___ word because of her strange accent. Please help me with that.
2) what if i again try to get next contact trials?? or better i should not try again considering the strange reaction shown by my body.
Please help me out with good answers as I'm scared with what happened.

NEED GUIDANCE. Should I bother finishing university or just go into the job market?

Hello! I'll cut right to the point- I want to pursue screenwriting as a means of employment, hopefully writing for television series' and work my way up to creating features-- if possible. I understand that it is an EXTREMELY competitive field but I do not have any other career aspirations besides writing and I want to, at least, spend my life trying to do something that I enjoy.

The problem is my education, and where I currently reside. I live in Canada and have not yet finished my bachelors, despite the fact that I am 23. Medical issues slowed me down, but now that they've been resolved I'm at least moving forward, but I'm not that interested in traditional subjects in university. I have a wide array of interests, and will read up on everything from art to zoology on my own, so specializing in a narrow field such as English, which I am currently enrolled in, isn't very interesting-- especially since it seems to focus less on developing your writing skills and more on attaining a literary lens of thinking through which to focus your thoughts to prepare for graduate school. I do not plan on attending graduate school.

This is a problem because I feel, at this point, that it's slowing me down. I'd be 27 by the time I finish school.

I want to get started in my field, as you don't go from nothing to paid screenwriter without paying years of dues. Although I can't pack my bags and move to L. A, I do have the opportunity of moving to Toronto (Hollywood North, haha) and start working there as an Office P. A-- albeit for minimal pay. But, I'm thinking it would at least be a step in the right direction and would allow me to start making contacts, which are nonexistent in the small city that I live in.It would also give me some more life experience to work with, as a creative outlet, which I feel I'm sorely lacking in by staying in my hometown doing nothing much but studying.

But, I could be wrong on all accounts. I need some help from you all. What should I do? Can anyone give me some advice? Should I maybe be considering switching to a screenwriting degree/diploma before I head off and work from there?

What do girls think of guys with different colored eyes?, im pale… ish, i have mousy brown curly hair that is longer on the top and fairly short on the sides.my left eye is a fairly pale blue and my green eye is bright green.
personally i like my eyes except for the fact they dont work: P (pretty much blind in my left and very long sighted and my right is bad and changes from long to short sighted because of a dislocated lens FUN FUN)

What's wrong with my new eyeglasses?

I just got my progressive eyeglasses. I cannot see clearly (slightly blurry vision).It's my third pair of progressives, didn't have problems with the other two.
If I cover any eye, I can always find an area in the lens through which I can see clearly, but if I cover the other eye, it's blurry. I have to rotate my head slightly in the direction of the eye to find the area through I can see clearly. For example, covering the right eye with my hand, I move my head till I see clearly a certain object. Now I cover the left eye, I cannot see clearly that object. I have to rotate my head slightly to the right. Now that I see clearly with the right eye, I cover it and I cannot see clearly with the left eye. I have to move my head slightly to the left in order to find the spot in the lens through wich I can see clearly. I cannot see clearly with both eyes at the same time. Why is this happening?
Second issue: for my left eye, the area through which I can read is minuscule, for only one row at a time, and my eye looks mostly at the area below the eyeglasses. For the right eye, the reading area is bigger (2-3 rows).Is this normal?
My eyes hurt first day (yesterday) when I wore the new eyeglasses, and I had a headache behind my eyes.
Today I continued wearing them and my eyes burn, are watery and I have sometimes a piercing pain in my eyes.
This is the replacement glasses they made for me. First pair was impossible to wear. They blamed the eye dr (with which they do business together). Then the dr reverted to the old prescription for the upper part of the lense; for the reading part, she gave me a stronger prescription, which I needed.
Can somebody please tell me why I cannot see clearly with both eyes at the same time?

Hey I just started working out on march been 4 months now I am bulking got some good weight gains and stuff 187 from 179 woo hoo! :D. But recently I lost my contact lens and I cant see without em i have to get a new one cause I only have one eye working i lost my left sight in an acident and stuff it will take weeks so i cant workout if i stop for a week or two what will happen to me and my gains if I suddenly stop? Making Sure That I Don't Get Infections from Contact Lenses?

For the longest time, I've been wearing glasses and I want contact lenses. The problem is, I'm really absentminded, I'd probably forget to take them out or clean them at some point, and really crappy luck seems to run in my family. Still, perhaps I could remember better if I were to buy lenses that can be worn for longer periods of time, but I have another question: even if I keep the contact lenses clean, can I still just get an infection anyway?

Can't Put Contacts In!

Ugh! I've been trying all day to put these contacts in! I try every which way and even got my mom to help hold my eyes open while I try to put it in. All that happens is it flips back and molds to my finger. I managed to get one in, but it hurt so much I had to take it out.My eye got red while it was in. What the heck! I tried for 1.5 hours in the morning and another 30 minutes in the afternoon and only got it in twice, and both times it hurt like hell! Why??/
I washed my hands and put the lenses in new solution each session. But when I rearrange my lenses they get a tad foggy. I can also see my fingerprints. That has to be normal. :((( Please help I had them in after the doctor's for the afternoon and it was amazing. P. S. I'm nearsighted (myopic)

Ortho k contact lens?

My vision is pretty bad for a sixteen year old. I have myopia. -4.25 in both eyes and regressing every eye appointment. I want to swim but you can't do so with contact because it could make you blind. I'mgoingto college in Hawaii and am a surfer.these lenses seem the best fit! you wear them at night and they temporarily reshape your cornea to give you better vision throughout the day.so do these sound legit?

What causes contact lenses to burn when you put them on?

Yesterday I put my contact lenses because I was about to go to target with my mom and dad and I was rushing to put them on so when I was pointing it to my eye it dropped and instead of dropping it in the floor it drop on the sink water not the hole but the water from the sink so when I put them it burn for like an hour and my eye turned red what does this mean does it mean that I got an eye infection or do eye parasites appear

Wearing 'extended' wear contact lenses in the shower?

(I asked this question previously but never got a proper answer)

The optometrist prescribed me extended/overnight contact lenses, as I have a big problem with taking them out and putting them back on everyday, since my vision is extremely poor and making sure they go on properly and cleaned properly is a big struggle.
He said I can wear them for a full month, however recommends that I take them out every 7 days to clean and give my eyes a rest. I plan on doing this every 4-5 days.

However, I forgot to ask about showering in them. I shower everyday, is it okay to shower in them as long as I keep my eyes from direct contact and what not?
Also, the purpose of these contacts is so I don't have to take them out everyday, so if I cannot shower in them, this would defeat the purpose. I know there is a risk of infection, but is there a problem apart from this? e.g. falling out etc (dont even know if this is possible)

Also, remember these are extended wear lenses so no need for a lecture about how I shouldn't wear them for too long.So I would appreciate answers according to these specific ones and please don't lecture me about this (as people did previously) regarding me wearing extended contacts, I just want to know if I can wear them in the shower

Honeycolor or PinkyParadise Circle Lenses?

I'm looking into buying a few circle lenses, but I don't know what website would be safest.
I've bought all of my circle lenses for over two years from thedollyeye.com, but I'm paranoid and always believe that cheaper isn't always better. I haven't had problems with them, but I just want to buy from a site that looks more professional and the lenses are guaranteed to be real and safe, for the most part.

Why do I look ugly and pretty?

I be crying a lot because when I wear my glasses i look ugly but when I no where my glasses I look pretty! I am not gay by the way but I have a good sense of fashion and look very androgynous and feminine and look better in women's clothes so no hate or i report and block you hah?

I need Circle Lenses advice?

I want to purchase my first pair of circle lenses, but I'm a little skeptical because I've heard both good and bad things about them. They say that it's advised not to wear circle lenses for over 8 hours, but I take about an hour to get ready in the morning and have to put them in before doing my makeup etc since it's considered more hygienic and safe to have your lenses in before you start putting on makeup. Then, I have an 8 hour school day, so that's about 9 hours total of usage.Is this okay? I'll be wearing them 5 days a row per week and I don't want to get them if they're damaging to my eyes. Also, will I need any special care for my eyes if I get them, like eye lubricants?

The lenses I'm looking at are 14.2 mm in diameter and have a base curve of 8.6 mm. They also have a water content of 45%. I also need prescription lenses, but I don't know if that will really make a difference. I would say my eyes are pretty hardy and don't get irritated very easily, however, I haven't really worn large lenses before so I don't know how my eyes will react to that.

Also, do you have some recommendations on circle lenses that are intended for daily use/more comfortable, but aren't one day lenses? I use contacts almost everyday and daily lenses are too expensive to be purchasing every month.

Soft contact lenses won't come off?

My first time wearing them: p. I have tried most of the methods out there. Pinching, moving it to the side, looking to the side. When I try moving it to the side, it doesn't budge at all. I did add a few eye drops to make it moist but still didn't come off.It's literally stuck to my eyeball like glue and yes i pulled my upper and lower lids. Sometimes, when I pinch, I feel like I could grab hold of it, but just when I want to take it out, it slides back. I only got it off with my mum's help. Please don't give me the 'Switch back to glasses' answer.

I recently got a new pair of reading glasses. But what I could see through each eye was quite different. I could read OK with my left eye, while objects in the distance were blurred. Which is what I would expect from reading glasses. But with my right eye, objects in the distance are sharply defined but I cannot read unless I hold the page out far.

The optician tried to tell me that it is not what I see from each individual eye that counts but what I see from the two eyes combined. That doesn't seem to make any sense as each eye is tested individually.In any case, I find it uncomfortable to wear the glasses as I can't seem to focus properly on any object, near or distant.

I've been wearing glasses for over 40 years now and I've never noticed any difference between my left and right eyes [when wearing glasses, that is] Anyone any thoughts on this?

Got water on my contact lens, should I be worried?

I got into one of those water log rides at our amusement park today but the problem was when I was riding it, I had my contact lens on and after the ride was over I had it on my face as well as my eyes

So Im just worried about my contact lenses since I heard that it could produce a kind of bacteria that could impair your vision when contacted with water

Why do my contacts keep moving?

I just got some colored contact lenses and I put them in and they keep moving down and I can see the blue of my eye in the clear middle bit of the contact lens it looks really weird and my eyes feel weird! Help please!

I want to wear coloured contact lenses (the brand of contacts is "Mesmereyez") but the thing is that I've never worn contacts before.Is it safe for me to wear these contact lenses? When is it safe/practical to get laser eye surgery?

I am 14, almost 15, and I have had good eyesight up until I was about 13, until its gradually started getting worse. I have tried contact lenses but have very sensitive eyes and it didn't work out. I wear glasses when I have to but prefer not wearing them, and wanted to know what age I can get laser eye surgery

Does anyone know good coloured lenses for dark eyes that look natural?

I have dark brown eyes and I want really good quality blue/green lenses that look really natural for everyday wear and something that's not too expensive. I know a brand that has lenses for specifically dark coloured eyes called desio but its 34 euros its too expensive :( Any help Anyone?

Can wearing glasses worsen sinus allergies and cause red under eye circles?

I'm using a nasal spray all the time, and I know for a fact that my under eye circles are caused by the allergies, could the glasses be causing extra pressure and cause the under eye circles?, and if so is there any tips to deal with it other than wearing contact lenses?, cause I've tried it but it wasn't comfortable for my eyes. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Colored contact lens help? - 1

Hi everyone. I'm going to be ordering a pair of colored contacts. I'm having trouble deciding between the GEO Nudy Blue lenses and the GEO Bella Blue lenses. Can someone please help? I have grey blue eyes, and would just like them to stand out more and make them look more enlarged. Thanks :)

Why is my eye doctor not recommending hard contact lens?

My dry has been bothering lately while I'm wearing contacts so I had to switch to daily disposal ones which are quite expensive for me. I asked my doctor if I can switch to hard contact lens but she said she would recommend me to use soft lenses.My eyes already felt like there was sand in my eye so I don't think it would make difference by switching to hard contacts. If I get hard lens, I can at least keep them for a while which is doing myself some favor my saving the money. Why is my eye doctor not recommending hard contacts?

Why do my contacts burn when I put them in my eye?

I've been wearing contact lenses every day for a little under a year now. I recently purchased a new pair which are from the same optician as my previous ones. However, when I put them in my eye they burn very badly and I have to close my eyes for about a minute or two. After that it is fine. I have washed them several times and I have washed the case and even moved them to a different case but they still burn. Why is this happening?

My eyes won't focus together?

I had gotten contacts in march, which were the pre-test contacts to see if they worked for me, since i see different in each eye and have astigmatism. The pre-test lenses worked perfectly. I ended up wearing the lenses for over 2 months and took them off after I started getting Eye Socket pain. I put on another pair of contacts but now my eyes won't focus together. If I cover one eye, the other will focus.Do I need to wait for them to adjust or what?
Added (1). If I wear a pre-test contact lens in one eye and a new contact lens in the other, I can see fine.

Eye examination results?

I was diagnosed with Kerataconis a few years ago but couldnt get to grips with hard lenses so I was advised to just keep a record of my eye tests and there shouldn't be too much of a decline. I have just had an eye test at specsavers and worried about the difference on the sphere of the left eye.Is it possible to go from sphere +0.75 to minus -5.25 on an eye test in 15 months? Does the below look right to you or do you think its an incorrect prescription based on the other results below? Also the Axis is way more than previous.

After my last Eye-exam (last week, Thursday) I am offered to update my Rx to DAILY WEAR Contact lenses. <-These are they type of lenses that I am to wear once and throw away.
I am now finishing my latest pair of Extended-wear contacts.

I wonder what "issues" that Daily-wear contact lenses cause that their advertisements do not reveal.

I'm a 17 year old straight guy, but I don't know why people think I'm so feminine? I mean I like to wear nice clothes and I take care of my face a lot (like use pimple and acne creams and packs) to make my skin glow and I also use coloured contact lenses. Please tell me what to do?

I just went for an eye exam (I've been wearing glasses for years) and decided to take my younger sister along since I had noticed that she seemed to be having trouble with her eyes as well. Well, it turns out she has a mild prescription of -1.00 diopters. However, she absolutely flat out refused to get glasses and only reluctantly agreed to try contact lenses. For a prescription of -1, does it make more sense to get contacts or just forget about correction all together? I know my sister, and she simply will not wear glasses. Since I only really noticed how bad my vision was when it got past -2, do you really think not getting any correction at all for -1 will be harmful? She doesn't drive yet even though she's 16, but will she be able to pass the eye exam at the DMV without correction?
