Scared to put contacts?

Hello. I got my trial contacts yesterday (for 1 month). Followed the instusctions cleaned them and everything. I used them today. It took me 2 hours to put the right eye contact in. At first my eye hurt a little and it got all teary for 5-10 mins. I got used to it and so I went to put in the left one.This time my (left) eye turnt red and hurt like crap. I also couldn't hold back my tears or stop blinking. At first, I waited and tried to calm down. After an hour I decided to take them off. I was so scared. My left eye was all red and it hurt a LOT, whereas my right eye completely comfortable.
I wanted to get off the left contact but I was shocked so I called my parents for help. My dad took the left and I the right one out. My left eye still hurt and stayed red for an hour or so. Anyway, now it feels better.

Maybe the (left) lens was inside out? Maybe I should have flipped it? I'm not sure. I'm so scared to put contacts again. Should I try again tomorrow? Will I get eye cancer or something? Oh and, any tips for removing the lenses? I find it so difficult to remove them!

Are my contacts harming me?

I am 14 years old(turning 15 in a couple of months) and I started wearing contact lenses( pure toric soft lenses, they correct astigmatism) from Jan 2.
I wear them quite frequently but I have never worn them for more than five hours and I NEVER were them to school or sleep with them or put make up on before wearing them.
But whenever I wear them reading small text becomes harder and they take a while to adjust.
Today my mum noticed that my cornea was slightly red and asked me if my contacts irritate me or something but truth is my eyes are never irritated by contacts.
The eye care practitioner told me that these will last year long and will not cause any damage.
Yes I have dropped my contacts several times while putting them on but I immediately soak it in the solution after I drop them.
My prescription for contacts is
LEFT EYE
Bc:8.60 Dia:14.00 SPH: -7.50 CYL; -2.25 AXIS; 170

RIGHT EYE

okay so i have really dark brown hair which is long and straight(with extensions) and i have blue eyes which are very light, my eyebrows aren't very dark but or the colour hair i want i can always lighten them. I've spent over 2,000 on hair extensions in 1 year which is ridiculous, well anyways im sick of my real hair its so short scruffy and rough. the only reason is so disgusting is because i got bullied on the colour of my hair, ridiculous i know. it once turned out grey haha it was hilarious but gross in others opinions… it weren't grey grey like old grey it was ash blonde which i thinks gorgeous but anyways i would dye my hair 4 times a day for about 2 weeks intill i got the right colour. well now I've found an absolutely gorgeous colour hair which i desperately want. from all my pocket money in 2 months I've gathered £750 and i am willing too spend it all on hair, i want to feel confident because right now my hair is thick and the extensions are thin and i look like an emo with the big hair which is not me at all. well anyways i know where to buy the colour extensions but i was wondering if anyone knows if hair dressers would dye my hair the exact same and then cover it and leave a few bits here and there. heres the colour,if anyone wants to show me anymore gorgeous streaked hair like this feel free to leave links it would help a lot because im not totally sure 100% about the colour yet…

How to read my contact lens prescription?

I'm trying to order contacts online but I can't input the cylinder because it only goes from -75 to -2.25, there is no option for -050. Also, for OS what does DS mean? Does it mean that I would only input -4.25?

My contact lens won't stop moving?

For the past five days, my left contact has been sliding around my eye. After putting one in, it'll settle into place for about ten minutes, and then my vision will get progressively more blurry as it starts moving around. I've tried putting drops in my eyes and it hasn't helped. It's happened to several contacts, and even switching batches hasn't fixed it. I did put a contact for my right eye in my left, and though it eventually started sliding it didn't do so for several hours (my eyes are different powers, my left being -5.75 and my right at -6.00 to help correct for a slight astigmatism that's ONLY in my right). They're Acuvue One Day, which I've been using for a few years now. I just had an exam and bought new contacts. The trial ones I received did slide around a bit as well, but leftover contacts from my old batch didn't.

Before anyone suggests it, they are NOT reversed. I've specifically checked before putting them in to make sure that wasn't the problem. I did wear my contacts to sleep for several weeks (replacing them every two days and not wearing them to bed every night before I replaced them) to stretch the remaining contacts out until my appointment, as it would have been hard to get more and I usually change powers in both eyes (I didn't this year, both sides remained in the same place). I go to school in Toronto but live in the States, where my optometrist is. My biggest problem is therefore that the issue didn't start until after I returned to Toronto, and I can't see my optometrist for two more weeks. Anyone got any suggestions? (Or know if Acuvue switched their manufacturing process I guess?)

Oh, and my right contact maybe did this thing once, but it was simply dry and some drops fixed it.

the next step from this is to study the contact lens course to be a contact lens optician.

Does looking at computers from a young age help your eyes?!

This may sound a stupid question, but bare with me…

The only reason I can find why looking at computers puts strain on your eyes is that it puts loads of strain on your muscles and your lens.

But, my theory is that as the human body is adaptable, won't the muscles etc. get used to constant computer use and eventually adapt? I mean, this is the first generation to look at computer screens a lot, so how do we know this isn't the case?

Is there something I'm missing, or will the eyes simply adapt to the size of computer screens and not to real life?

Can I sue/make a claim against the local eye store?

So I recently went to a different eye store to the one I had been going to and received my current glasses from. They told me my glasses were -1.25 and that I was now -3.75. The thing is, my old optometrist told me they changed my lenses to -2.50. If they send me a copy of the results of my last test and they indeed prescribed -2.50 lenses and did not change them, could I sue them or make a claim against them? If I can, could you provide an estimate of how much money I would receive in Australia?

Can I wear both GP contact lenses and glasses?

Often the case people have both contacts and glasses, wearing contacts for events and such, and glasses if they are too lazy to put on contacts or forget to put them on in a rush.

In my case however, I wear GP contact lenses, they are basically contacts you wear in the night that correct your vision while you are sleeping so when you wake up you take them off and have clear vision. But like any normal person, sometimes I'm too tired/lazy to put them on before I sleep and wake up with *slightly* blurred vision. Over the day it gets gradually worse, and that's where I get kind of complicated. I can't wear regular strength prescription glasses I used to own because those are far too strong. But at the same time my vision is not spot clear and I have trouble seeing writing on the whiteboard for example.

I was thinking of getting even lower strength prescription glasses, but this doesn't make sense and is only temporary because my vision gets worse; it changes. Is there just no hope then? To be able to own both GP/night contacts and glasses and use them interchangeably?

Why would my optometrist suggest monthly contact lenses?

I'm going for my first contact lenses consult at the start of February and I'm very excited! My mum asked the receptionist about the procedure and she said that the optometrist liked to start people off on monthly contacts, I thought this was odd because online, a lot of people say that Dailies are hygienic and are easier to use. She also said that it is £17 a month for solution etc, I was wondering if anyone had used this method before and what the package includes? And if any of you have any useful tips on contact lenses, I'd be very greatful so that I know what to expect.

Green lines around my iris?

Hello i just noticed by using an fleshlight at my eye while standing on my mirror i was seeing these green lines around my iris. I don't think i've had these before because i'm used looking close to my eyes because i have used contact lenses about a year and a half. How to tell the difference between left and right novelty contact lenses?

I received coloured non-vision correcting contact lenses in the mail yesterday. They came in a small box with two vials - one for each lens. I took the vials out of the box to put them in my medicine cabinet, but when I flattened the box out to throw it away I noticed there was a "L" and "R" labelling on the box itself. I've looked all over the vials and they aren't labelled, only the box was.

Is there any way to tell which lens is for which eye? Or is the instruction manual perhaps making a big deal over using them in the right eyes when it actually doesn't matter? Please help!

Gunnar glasses and eye lenses?

I bought my self GUNNAR Vayper glasses today, but i noticed that they have some diopter on them. I read and it turn out its +0.25 which maybe is bad.

I have -3.00 and -3.25 on my eyes and wear contact lenses all day long. The gunnar glasses somewhat make me see not so clear + i think they make my eyes feel bad after long use. I mean its like with them its worse. Am i right or i am imagining.

Could a bit of glass have gotten in my eye?

So ~3 hours ago I was in art class minding my own business when about 2-3 feet away my tablemate started using a hammer to hit a shard of mirror (it was for a project). The shard broke really suddenly and I heard pieces scatter on the table in front of me; the other two people sitting nearby also commented on it. I didn't know she was going to do that or I would have moved away; she had already broken some of the mirror and I thought she was finished.

I've heard that little pieces of foreign material can get into your eye without you realizing so I'm freaking out a little bit. I was looking down at my own work and I had my prescription lenses on, but she was at a right angle to me and the lenses don't curve all the way around my eye.

I haven't had any symptoms; no discomfort, pain, irritation, blurriness, nothing. I also didn't actually see any little bits of mirror coming towards my face and I didn't notice any pieces on my clothes. The mirror was made out of cheap material and my hammer-happy classmate (who wasn't wearing safety goggles) and the teacher were able to easily pick up the shards and put them on the sculpture without being cut. I felt a little itchy at one point for like 2 seconds a while ago but nothing unusual.

I told my mom about it in case she wanted to go to my optometrist. She didn't think it was a big deal since I was wearing glasses and the material was really cheap so it probably doesn't shatter like glass.

Is it possible that any bits of the mirror got in my eye without me noticing? I have a thing about health issues (especially eye health) so I can't tell if I'm overreacting. Thank you.

Workers comp or short term disability?

Well. I've been on my job for 3+ years now. I sit in front of a PC all day and type. Before I was here I had a vision problem in my right - kerataconis. It was bad, but I didn't have vision problems because my left eye was strong and fine. Ever since working this job and staring at this monitor for so long, my eyes started becoming weaker. First I requested a LCD monitor. They got me a 17 inch. It helped a little, but my eyes still get fatigued quick. I then paid for a gas permeable lens for my eye - costed almost $200 cash. It slightly helped but was extremely uncomfortable - it felt like something cratching my eye. I wore it for 1 month but it distracted me from my job - constantly rubbing and watering eyes. I stopped wearing the lens everyday because I just cant tolerate it. Also it was not really helping because my left eye was still straining to keep up. A few months later I tried to wear the lens and either my condition has worsened (coning of the eye - kerataconis) or I don't know because I can't even see out of it anymore. Its blurry and hurts bad.

My question is - does any of this qualify for short term disability or workers comp? I can no longer see my screen at work and I have to see to do my job. My condition definitely worsened since I started this job. Before I was able to see fine - I was unemployed for some time prior to this job though. Now, I am practically blind when I leave work. I have to sit in my car for about 1/2 hour to regain enough strength to drive home. I need some time off because I cannot see my optometrist again until March 2014 - only 1 exam per year otherwise its all out of pocket. I need to find another job that doesn't require staring at a monitor for 8 hours. If I quit my job, will I be able to get unemployment. I know voluntary quit disqualifies me from UI, but I can no longer work my job safely. Any help, info,links will be great. I live in Ohio.

How long will monthly contacts last if only worn once a week?

I have monthly contacts but only wear them about once a week. If I do this, do they still need to be replaced after a month or can I wear them longer since I am not actually wearing them a month?

They are Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism

Why are my contacts sticking to my eyes?

I've been wearing acuvue oasys for astigmatism for over two year. I've been using the solution bio true. I had a pair of contacts that I had worn for about one week with no issue. One day when I tried to put in my contact I found that it was viciously sticking to my eye and would not budge. My first thought was that my eye was not moist before applying, so I moisturizer my eye as well as the flooding the contact in more solution but it continued to stick. I then though it was that pair of contacts so I opened a new pair. Again the pair stuck strongly to my eye when putting them in.

SM Entertainment Global Auditions?

Hi there… I'm thinking about entering in the SM Global Casting System in May, in Bangkok, Thailand. So i want to know everything about the SM Global Casting System… I went to their official website but it wasn't really that helpful. ( or maybe i'm jux too dumb to understand xP )

1) How many stages are there in the GCS? Are all rounds held in the same place or like 1st round in Bangkok and the others are in Korea?

2) I'm not really good with the high notes but i can rap so which song should i choose? Does it have to be SM's idols' songs or any korean songs? I'm kinda scared cux i can sing T.O.P's Doom Da Da really well but since SM and YG are rivals ( i guess ) it might be a problem.

3) I'm male, 19 years old, really thin ( like 100 pounds ), 5 feet 6 inches, from Myanmar ( i really want to be the 1st k pop idol from Myanmar ), speaks English very well, Korean, i understand some but can't read. So can i be a trainee? cux u noe, most male idols have muscles and they are really tall. So i have to work out during my trainee days or should i start working out now?

4) Do i have to do everything? Singing, dancing, acting and i think i saw something about making your own song and submit it to them. Do i need to? cux i don't noe how to write a song or play an instrument. I jux loves singing and dancing…

5) If i passed the audition, i have to move to Korea, right? will they pay for everything? like school fees, everyday allowances, clothes, phones, stuffs we use everyday like, hair sprays, contact lenses ( i really need them ), etc.

Eyeglass strength to Contact Lens Strength?

So I have a pair of eyeglasses have an equal strength of -0.50. I was wondering what would probably be the contact lens strength if I got contacts. Would it be the same strength as the eyeglasses? How to stop spectacles steaming up when riding?

I ride a motor scooter and wear a full face helmet. Modern helmet visors have a "fog city" insert which stops it from fogging up, but in cold weather my spectacles tend to steam up when I stop at traffic lights. I can raise the visor to clear it, but that lets in the cold air, and if it's raining then the water drips behind the visor and sometimes down my glasses.

I've tried all manner of sprays, etc, to stop the glasses from steaming up, but they never work for very long. I did try contact lenses, but I don't really get on with them.

I've had this problem off and on for years and I've also tried several different helmets. They've all had the same problem so I won't name any brands.

Any suggestions please.

Am I allowed to wear coloured contact lenses while I am on drugs for a night?

I sometimes wear contact lenses, not because I need to but because I like the different colours.

I am going to a squat rave in a few weeks. A few of you may or may not know that squat raves are full of people taking drugs. I went to a squat rave over the Halloween season and there were plenty of boys and girls wearing contact lenses.

So if I was to wear coloured contact lenses while on for example; alcohol, MDMA or speed, will it effect my eyes or will I be ok? Oh and rave is ALL night!

Job At Pearle Vision/other eye care businesses?

I am 19 with very little job experience, but I am currently going to school to become an Optometrist. I am looking for places to apply for a job, and I was wondering if Pearle Vision/Lens Crafters/Vision Works or any other eye care business would even think to hire me? What job experience would I need? Obviously I wouldn't be a doctor, I would at most be a receptionist of some kind, but I would just really love to work around the eye care professionals, because I think it's extremely interesting! Do they hire young people like me? Or do I need to have a degree of some kind?

I'm going to Andora in March, first time skiing. I have all my gear except I don't know if i should go with goggles or sunglasses? theres also the matter that I wear glasses on a daily basis, and would have to wear contacts too if I get sunglasses. Any Body Have any suggestions?

4 days in contact lenses wearing. Left one still feels blurry?

Hello great and always helpful community. Quick question regarding my new contact lenses.
I just got the free 2 week trial at the optometrist. First few days in and my left one still feels blurry as soon as put it in. It kind of gives me a feeling like it's not strong enough.
I have gotten used to them already and everything else it's fine except that blurry feeling in my left one. I also have astigmatism and I know that lenses tend to move around the pupil a bit. But they should adjust themselves with every blink.

What do you think causes my left eye blurriness? In addition my prescription is correct.
I wanted to get a stronger one hoping it would solve my problem.

Why do I keep having dreams where I put on contact lenses?

I have black eyes, which I like. But now I keep having the same dream where I put on blue contact lenses. Also, I'm not avid on contact lenses because of all the disadvantages they have (ie your eyes don't get oxygen when you have them on).

Do you need to rub the contact lens after disinfect them?

Hi I just bought my contact lenses for a week now, I'm just wondering, do you need to rub and rinse them every time after you take them out after disinfect them in the solution? Or you need to rub and rinse BEFORE you disinfect them in the solution? And do you need to air dry the case after you toss the solution? Thanks! ;)

Acuvue vs freshlook colored contacts?

I bought freshlook colorblends green. It doesn't cover my whole pupil. You can see my natural color on the outer edges. Also o hate how the contacts poke out. They look too fake. Is acuvue better? What brand has the best looking colored contacts?

Do these sunglasses suit me?

so I've been looking for some sunglasses and I've been eyeing these for a while (well not this EXACT pair but the lens sizes are the same - just the sides are different, but yeah they all pretty much look the same)

and I finally went into the store today and I tried them on and my mom took a picture but I look awkward and felt rushed because a sales associate literally stood next to us the entire time, yeah I know its her job but I still felt rushed so yeah, you can even see her in the back in the magenta cardigan -.- anyway, do these sunglasses fit my face? too big? just isn't the right type for my face? they are pricey so I'd like to make sure they actually look good before spending the money!

Best brand for colored contacts? - 1

I have dark brown eyes and I just got hazel colored contacts from freshlook coloredb lends. I think they look ok but when I ask people, like my friends some can tell especially the girls. They said stuff like they poke out or they look shiny. I want a brand that makes my eyes look more realistic. And im fair skin so I can pull off hazel eyes if I had realer colored contacts.

My eye may be infected again…help?

I had an eye infection due to my contact lenses on November 16th and my right eye was completely red. It was really bad. Went to the doctor and he gave me Vigamox and Prednisolone…it had worked

Decemeber 10th…the infection came back and then he prescribed me those again…

it has been a little over a month and now and There is a little discharge coming out of it. Very little. Not a lot. My mom said my right eye is a little red, not at all a lot. Do you think this is just a small reaction of me starting to wear contact lenses on my right eye? I stopped wearing them November 16th till January 15th. Do you think its my eye getting used to my contact lenses?

Is it illegal to buy contact lenses online without a current prescription?

From the quick searching I did I think I understand it's illegal for a US based store or site to SELL lenses without confirming the prescription but if I've found somewhere overseas that doesn't do prescription verification am I breaking any US law? I've had the same Rx for 5 years running and I just ran out and my prescription expired last week and I don't have enough extra cash right now to get both the exam and contacts.

How to test the optical characteristics of a contact lens using an interferometer?

For my fourth year project I have been assigned the task of designing a setup where I attempt to find the power of a contact lens using a Twyman-Green Interferometer. I have ani idea of placing the contact lens in some kind of cuvette with a salene solution and then passing the light through it. But will the cuvette and saline solution affect the results or will I have to take them into account?

How bad would my shortsightedness interfere with surgical work?

I have myopia alta diagnosed from a young age (8 yrs old) and have -6 dpt on left and -7 dpt on my right eye. I would like to now if it is a good idea to opt for a surgical career (neuro or cardiac chirurgy) then? I would say I have an excellent dexterity, physical stamina needed, good spatial and visual perception (a keen eye for details), and an ambition, if that counts.
Could my myopia be successfully mitigated using lenses or surgical glasses, or both?
Would I be looked weird upon on being a shortsighted surgeon (well if I become one)? Would it be harder for me getting a job after I finish my residency?
I am a premed student (20 yrs old), so I've never acctually been in the OR.
If it weren't such a good idea, what other specialties, similar to surgery by some means, would you recommend? (I hope this doesn't sound like I disgrace other medical specialties, I'm just trying to find something that suits me.)
Added (1). @ Christin K I do wear glasses or contact lenses depending on occasion. And from my experience with lenses I don't see so well in close as with glasses. But glasses of such a high dyoptria make everything smaller. So I am afraid I my not be able to see that much detail.
As well, I might take a laser eye surgery if it would lessen my myopia and leave me with the ability to see as precise as with naked eye if I approached closer.
