Why would someone wear contact lenses and reading glasses instead of bifocals?

Why would a person get contact lenses for vision correction when they still need to wear reading glasses? Wouldn't bifocals be better?

My contact lense is blurring on one side?

Got contacts for first time (aside fashion lenses) on Tuesday They were a little odd to get used to at first but this is really bugging me now im constantly rubbing my left eye or blinking to get it to stop blurring after i finish writing this im going to teake them out for a few hours because i cant see a damn thing ive made the eye sore from taking it in and out and cleaning it they are dry when they come out but my right side is excelent. :/// really dont want to go back to wearing glasses but i dont want to persevere for the sake of it… What is wrong?
they're from specsavers. Got a follow up in 2-3 weeks so im waiting until then but i may go down sooner and ask what is wrong

Added (1). Got contacts first time (aside fashion lenses) this week 4 days now, its feeling weird every day on the left side its blurry often and uncomfortable but lenses usually are uncomfortable. Its annoying when i look down it blurs but when im outside its okay. The right side is fine but the left is the one doing it just blurring over. Its a honey coloured lense but i have short sight i got them from specsavers and i have an appointment in about 3 weeks so im waiting but is this normal?

I'm contstantly taking them out to clean them because they feel weird however they are sometimes super dry its doing it now as im writing this its like i contstantly need to blink yes they're montly. I took all my makeup off yesterday and wore them like that because i thought maybe it would help. I don't want to go back to my glasses but i dont want to make them work for the sake of it.

Can Cylinder(Cyl) be converted to additional power for contact lenses?

A shopkeeper tells me that because I have -0.50 Cyl in one eye, it has to be converted to additional power/Sph and don't need to order special ones with the Cyl. In fact he says for that value of Cyl, there are no lenses from Bausch and Lomb. He mentioned that they only come for Cyl lenses for higher values.

Does any one know whether his statements are true?

How long does contact lenses solution last for you?

I've been using bio true contact solution and each bottle is 2 fl oz. I've been wearing trial contacts for less than a month (since May 20th) and have already used up 1 bottle and about 3/4 of another. I follow the directions from my doctor and what the bottle says - 3 drops on each side and then I fill the container with fresh solution every night. The bottle says the solution is safe to use for up to 90 days but should be used up before then with continuous use (it doesn't say when, though).

Am I using too much? The first bottle went a bit faster, about 10 days, because I had a harder time putting in my contacts and would constantly drop them and have to use more solution. How long does a bottle typically last for you?

Please help. So I'm at a friend's house and my eyes were getting itchy from the contact lens as I had them on all day. I forgot to wash my hands and I took out my right contact lens to wet with a solution. I wore it and my eye burns. It is to the point that I couldn't open my eyes and I had to force open it to take the contacts out. It's now very red and I'm scared I might go blind. I don't have eye drops.

I would try to book an appointment but it's night time here in the UK I also bet opticians can't fit me in a schedule for tomorrow as it's a week end and it's normally busy.

Please help me, I need help asap.

Why do so many Optometrists have trouble getting prescriptions right?

I have had it happen to me and I answered the questions properly and carefully asked to see the differences between lenses so that I could answer properly. They still wanted to play with the prescription in one eye that was just fine. With their "recommendation" it made the eye blurry. They ended up just assuming the prescription and making it like it was before.

My mother and brother have experienced this. Reviews on the websites of most major eye places (VisionWorks, Lenscrafters, etc.) seem to indicate that they couldn't get many, many people's prescriptions right. They went there seeing just fine, got their prescription changed and couldn't see very well afterwards.

I find it hard to believe that all of these people are "lying" about their answers on the eye test that they need for glasses or contacts in order to live their lives.

Why are they screwing up so many prescriptions?

Science test soon and I don t understand?

I have a science test coming up on Monday and my science teacher didn t even warn us about the test until yesterday which was this Friday. So I have the weekend to study but I just don t get it! She have us a sheet saying we are expected to know this stuff for the test:

* Understand how light travels

* Be able to define transparent, translucent, opaque, reflection, absorption, refraction and dispersion.

* Be able to define real and virtual images.

* Be able to show the difference between a concave and convex mirror and converging and diverging, include label focal point.

* Refraction, define and be able to explain how the coin can appear when you pour water in a cup.

* Lenses, know the difference between concave and convex and weather they diverge or converge rays and therefore how they are used in glasses.

* Colored light, know the primary colours and what colours are fomed when they are mixed.

* Be able to explain why colored object appears a certain color to our eyes.

Yes we have learned this in class but I find it so hard to understand. If anyone could explain all this to me I will happily give them best answer. Also I need to know how I can understand all this information before the test on Monday.

I threw my contact lens in the trash realizing i needed it 3 hours later. I took it out, cleaned it and put it in solution. This sounds like a dumb question but is it still ok if I use it?

Are non-prescription circle lenses illegal in the USA?

I don't necessarily plan on buying circle lenses*, yet. They are not prescription. I need them for a specific "costume", per say. Not to wear them everyday.
I plan to just buy one pair from pinkyparadise.com. Which seems to be a trusted site to most.
But someone had told me that if they are not prescription they possibly wont be allowed into the USA?
Which puts me off from buying them. But as of not thy are important to get.

Unfortunately i have dark brown hair and dark brown eyes and i hate them. :( My big dark brown eyes always look like an alien's eyes.
If i had hazel or light brown eyes there would be sth special about my looks.

Every time ive ridden a coaster before ive not worn my glasses, but its so frustrating not being able to see anything. Do I need more surgery on my lazy eye?

So from the age of 1 I've had a lazy eye. My left eye moves a bit outward. My eye sight has always been pretty bad and I'm severely long sighted. I got an op on my lazy eye when I was 5 and before that I used to wear a patch. I started wearing lenses when I was 14 and when I'm not wearing them I wear glasses. Lately my eye has been hurting, I grit my teeth a lot out of discomfort and I've asked my optician why is this. He said it could be down to the lazy eye going back to the way it was. The glasses normally hide my turn but I've started to notice that they don't really. I'm nearly 17 so does it sound as if I could do with another op?
I get pretty upset over this and it is something that I'm self conscious of

Reusing contact lenses after a while?

Long story short, I forgot my contact lenses at my friend's house and he can't give them back until this weekend. They are monthly contacts that have only been used for a week.

If I open another pair of monthly contact lenses for this week and only use them for this week, can I store them afterwards until I finish using my other ones? When I'm done my other ones, I'll continue to use the ones I opened. Is this okay? *Sorry for confusion haha (No, my friend cannot bring them to me. No, I cannot go pick them up. Astigmatism, contacts?

If my left eye is much weaker than my right eye (left-4ish, right-2ish)(I'm near sighted can't see far away) do I have astigmatism? I have an appointment for contact lenses in a week and I just got new glasses too. If I wear my glasses and contact lenses all the time will my left eye get stronger? And also if you have contact lenses do you prefer the monthly or dailies? I was thinking about the monthly ones.

Hi guys so im out of contact solution, can I leave my contact in my lens without adding anything on it? Just for one night ( 12 hours)? I cant throw them out they r the year one ( prescription ).

Can I wear non-toric color contacts?

So I have a special occasion coming up, and I want to wear colored contacts. Only problem is, I've been looking around for colored toric lenses, but they're extremely difficult to find. The brands that I've found that do make them, such as Desio and Solotica require 4-6 weeks of processing time before they ship out, which is understandable because they're custom made. Is it okay for me to wear non-toric colored contacts such as the Freshlook Colorblend ones (these are the most affordable and accessible)? The Toric Freshlooks have been discontinued I believe, so I'm talking about the regular prescription ones. I understand if they're uncomfortable, I just want to know if they'll irritate or damage my eyes any before I go ahead and buy them. This event I want to wear them to is only a few hours long.

What are the actual risks of leaving your contacts in over a long period of time?

I own some "month" contact lenses that are recommended to take out and clean every night, but my eye doctor said that they let oxygen through, so it's okay if i forget from time to time. I have not changed my contacts in about six months, and I have only taken them out two or three times since putting this set in. I have noticed a sty every couple of weeks, but are there any long-term risks like cataracts or is that just a myth?

Is colored contact irritation normal?

Yesterday I went to a convention and bought a set of colored contacts, that could be worn right away. When I got to my hotel, I put the contacts in after trying for about half an hour. Once they were in, I went back to the convention for another two hours, despite the slight irritation and burning, which I was warned of before hand because of the solution. Really, after a couple of minutes, the irritation had subsided, and the only problem was the redness in my eye. After I got to my hotel, I took the contacts out and noticed that my eyes were still red. When I woke up this morning, I still had slight irritation and my eyes were red, so I put in eye drops, which only helped the redness. My eyes have felt dry and have had very light irritation all day.

This is my first time wearing contacts, and I don't wear glasses. Also, the lenses I bought could be worn without soaking them in solution first, although I have my soaking right now. And I should shamefully add that I didn't go to my optometrist and check to see if I could wear contacts.

So the question is, Should I stop wearing the contacts, or is this normal for wearing colored contacts for the first time? Should I check with my eye optometrist before I wear them again?

I am a guy, 27, and I am rarely deemed as "attractive". I stand at 5'5". I am not "fat", but I am not in shape or athletic. I have struggled with acne. I wear glasses. I lost some hair between ages 22-25. I started going grey last year. I shop for my clothes at Target and TJ Maxx. I drive a 2007 Prius.

Could I lose weight and become thin? Yes.
Could I take Accutane and get my acne treated? Yes.
Could I use rogaine or get a hair transplant? Sure.
Could I use "Just for Men" to get rid of grey? Sure.
Could I get LASIK or use contact lenses? Sure.
Could I wear the most expensive clothing? Yep.

But WHY SHOULD I?

I don't want to live in the gym. As long as I am healthy, that's ok. I don't want to take Accutane. I've heard of some DISTASTROUS results from that. I also don't want to throw away money on rogaine, just-for-men, a hair transplant, LASIK, expensive clothing, or a fancy car. I'd rather save for a house.

People tell me "then don't expect any girls to be attracted to you." I get told that certain girls are "out of my league" or that "what makes you think she'd be attracted to you", or "you wished you looked like that guy."

In this day and age, you would NEVER make the above statements to a girl. So why is it acceptable to make it to a guy? While it is true that many women will over look me in favor of other guys, why should I change myself just for their benefit? Isn't beauty in the eye of the beholder?

I actually had a boyfriend and he broke up with me two months ago after being in a one year relationship. Mostly was LDR by the way because he works at sea. His reason was, "I feel so confused and I need to be alone. I need freedom" "it's not you,it's me" kind of thing.

I know i shouldnt be bothered about this too much because we broke up already.

Contacts and water? Any help?

I have heard that water and contacts do not mix before. When I was new to contacts, I tried to avoid water as much as possible. However, my dad recently told me that water does not do anything to contact lenses (he has had contacts for over 15 years, I believe.) Also my friend used water before on her one contact and nothing happened.

To the point of the story, I have been wearing my contacts in the shower for the last couple of days. I usually remove my eye makeup and my contacts before entering the shower. While I was washing my hair, I think I may have gotten water in my eye and my contact seemed to slip a little out of my eye. I thought I had an eyelash but when I looked in the mirror, my contact was hanging out. I took it out and let it soak in solution while I finished up my shower, while still wearing the other contact.

My contact looks fine - no tears or anything. However, I'm paranoid that the water may do something to my contact?
