What kind of eye doctors are these in Australia?

I can't tell if they're Opticians working at small kiosks in shops, or some other one. They seem to fit prescription single vision lenses in frames, but don't hold big stores like you would see any from OPSM and Specsavers.

I just noticed this on the day I had my eyes tested at Specsavers who then talked and guilted me into buying frames from them who were excited about my purchase.

Why does my contact lens keep popping out when I try to put it? First time contact lens wearer?

Hello. I got my first soft contact lenses earlier this month. Mine's the extended wear which can be used up to a year. The first time I tried it myself was a day later, and it was a success. Today was the second time. I was nervous so I keep cleaning the lens over after each failed trials with solution. Finally, I was able to put it in my eyes, but it looks like there was a liquid, probably a solution or just liquid from my eye between the contact lens and the eye.

It also looked like it would fold (there were a few times it folded and popped out) I already tried not blinking for a few seconds so it wouldn't pop out. I tried more or less 7 times but it still did the same (wherein the contact lens looked like it was about to fold and it looked like there's liquid between the contact lens and the eye). It's like it has a bubble (but it was a bit straight, the "bump"). I also tried "smoothing out" the surface, as in trying to remove the liquid between the contact lens and eyes, but it didn't work out because when I blinked after, it popped.
Also, when I touched it the first time today, it seems as if it got thinner, I don't know, it could just be me. I haven't opened it after my first time use around 18 days ago. I thought it got thinner because it was in the solution for quite some time. I don't know if this is possible. Now on my left eye on which I tried my contact lens, it felt as if it has something stuck. But I know that the contact lens is now in my case when I took it

Is there anything you can take or any surgery that fixes permanently dilated/enlarged pupils?

I am 18 years old, don't do drugs or take any medicine so I know that's not the problem. I have a very seriously bad problem with night driving due to glare (and I work nights so I need to be able to drive. I go to school during the day so it's not an option to change my shifts. Not working is also not an option, since I take care of my younger brother and need to work 50-60 hours/wk.). It's to the point where I think an accident is pretty likely if this can't be fixed, as bad as that sounds. My eye doctor told me the glare is caused by enlarged pupils, but never told me anyway to fix it besides these stupid crizal (sp?) lenses that supposedly reduce/eliminate glare. They don't make an iota of difference but cost me a sh*t load of money. Supposedly they are the best/most advanced lenses.

Is there anything that can be done to fix this?

My lenses got thicker but my eyesight improved?

I just got my new glasses and I noticed how thick they were compared to my old ones. When I went to get my eyes checked, they said that my vision slightly improved. I get my lenses thinned since my prescription is pretty bad. Is it because these new frames I have are bigger than my old frames that is causing this change in lens thickness?

I have a doubt about my eye glasses?

I consulted a doctor regarding headache after prolonged computer usage. She asked me to read Snellen chart. I was able to read it without any problem. But I wasn't sure whether the last line was visible clear and so I took some time to read it. I told the doctor that the letter 'O' in last line seemed 'Q' . She then asked me to wear some instrument with many lenses and changed one by one. After some trial everything was clear. In the report my eye sight was 20/20 and 6/6. The glasses she prescribed was plus 0.25 dipotre. (+0.25D). What am I suffering from? Long sight or short sight?

Does anyone know of any eye doctors in South Eastern Michigan that accepts Meridian Health Plan?

I am now on Meridian Health Plan (since April 1st) and looking at the brochure, they cover eye exam and frames.

Where can I find a local optometrist that participates in this plan and do I have to pay for the lenses themselves?

Thank you:)

Are contacts supposed to be uncomfortable?

I've been wearing circle contact lenses without any prescription in them since I was in 7th grade almost everyday just because I like the way my eyes look. I'm in 10th grade now and my mom got me regular prescription contacts. I find that they are much thicker than the circle lenses I normally wear. And they are really uncomfortable when I wear them. They're clean and I put them in right because I've been wearing contacts for a decent amount of time. I just tried them on and they weren't comfortable so I switch back to the circle lenses and they are comfortable. Is this normal?

Don't have perfect vision, will Airforce accept?

It's my dream to be a pilot for the airforce, particularly fighter jets. However, I don't have perfect vision (used to, countless nights on the computer changed that). What can I do? Do they allow you to wear glasses/lenses in planes? Do they allow you if you have a history with laser eye surgery?

Also, I was looking into this on Google, and a lot of sources claim if you don't have perfect vision, you can have it "corrected". What exactly is "corrected"?

I'm self conscious about my cataract, I'm 20 years old?

I'm a 20 year old guy and I've had surgery on a cataract that I had almost 2 years ago and they put in a replacement lense in my eye. The problem with it is in certain light my eye reflects the light and makes my eye look false or weird.

Its really affecting me because some people have mentioned it and I can feel when the lights in my eye so I try to avoid eye contact. It's really getting me down. Is there any type of contact lenses or something that I could wear that would prevent the light from reflecting in my eye? Thanks

Sikh view on Caste System?

If we put Hindu lens on our eyes we can clearly say that caste system won't go away, Its part of the religion, the only way is to convert to other religion, This religion is entirely based on Caste and four Varna, So we have to take down entire religion.
I have "heard" that there is no mention of Caste system in Sikhism. How a Sikh views caste system,
is there any "Sikh view"?
Caste system does exist in Sikhism, anyway Sikhism is only 500 year old religion,
Has any sikh person ever wrote an artile like Sikhism's critique on caste system
or Caste system through SIkh lens,
Anthropology is a simple subject

Get my camcorder to have decent night vision?

I was gifted a camcorder for my last birthday and it's really good, but I have decided that night vision would make it great!

My camcorder is a Panasonic v210 (full HD)

I understand that infrared lighting is needed for night vision, however I do not know where I could find any decent IR lights that would work well alongside a camcorder, also would I need to modify my camcorder? I read something about IR filters, and how they may need to be removed?
I did buy an IR torch but it was rubbish, I could barely see a difference between having it on or off.

Thanks.

If I see a red ring of color around my vision when wearing a contact, is the contact lens too small?

I see a red ring around my mangekyou contact vision whenever I have them on. Also whenever I blink they hurt slightly and for the first 3 minutes they burned… Are these okay? Are these safe? Please, I really need some answers… I like them and I want to wear them to school tomorrow but I really love my eyes, too. I feel bad for straining them because it hurts while i have them on, but very faintly.

Larger frames and higher prescripitons?

my prescription is - 8-9, in glasses, plus astigmatism,. Im planning on getting new frames in the next couple of months, i have plastic medium sized frames, and would like to get slightly larger ones than i have, as my eyes are uneven and larger frames may be better for me.
as my eyes are quite bad ( I know many people are worse than me but I also cant see at all!)
Im wondering if larger frames ) not giant just a little larger, would make my eyes look small? Or weird?

I need slightly larger frames due to my prescription. How large should I go? I only want plastic.

thank you
Added (1). already have high index lenses due to my prescription, and do wear contacts too, so plan to look for larger frames when I have my contacts on… Just wondering if large frmes will be ok for my prescription, don't want my eyes too small, they are already uneven.

Could i still claim compensation? And should i? Eye Injury?

I was told today in college by one of my teachers that i should claim for the accident that happened back in Feb-March 2012 in which when i was in school i was coming out of the toilets when i was hit in the eye with a rubber. Prior to this i never needed any glasses and had what was classed as 20/20 vision and was perfectly fine. After the accident i was sent for an emergency eye test in which i was then sent to a hospital because they was not happy they could see deep enough inside the eye. It was at this time i knew it was bad. At this hospital they put eye drops in my eyes to try get the pressure to go down. I was then refered to another hospital and a eye specialist in which went through various tests to see deep inside my eye and they even tested to see if my retina was still attached it was this bad.

After all these i was given eye drops to take every 4 hours and one to take in the morning and evening. Since then 6 months later i went for a regular eye test in which at first i didn't tell the person i had been hit until he mentioned if there had to been any trauma to the eye because he could see a rapid decline in just my left eye. I guess it was just to see and if there wasn't to rule it out that there was no condition. And from this day each time i get glassed i have to pay an extra £40 to get the lens thinned down because i only have the problem in that eye.

It is just over 2 years since and i have been told i should claim because its affect me now.
Added (1). I didn't claim at the time because i didn't think it would affect me but now i have head aches and my right eye is becoming worse because of my left.

All the things would be on record so i surely would win a claim? Is it worth it and do you think i would win the claim?

Contact lens ripped and I am So frustrated?

Went to go get an eye exam yesterday. Sat down with the optician and she made me put my contacts in and out. I suceeded in about 20 minutes. She said the norm is 30-40 minutes. I was gently cleaning the lens in my hand and she told my that, "You don't have to worry about the contacts tearing. They are tough and are hard to tear." Well, this is my first day on my own with my own sample contacts. I am supposed to go back in a week and geta supply of contacts. I kept them in the case, cleaned them, put one in my palm and cleaned it, put a drop on one, inspected it, and I noticed a really annoying hair. I put the contact back in my hand and tried to get the stupid hair out. It just wouldn't come out! Then, a big tear just randomly happened. I am So mad! How common is it to tear contact lenses after you just got a sample? Will it cost any money to replace the sample ones? Will the optician think I am irresponsible?

Vision/Glasses Problem?

I got new glasses a couple weeks ago. It's my first new pair in probably five years. So I know my eyes need to adjust to the new lenses. Problem is, it's makes me absolutely sick. I get the worst migraine in the world, dizzy, feel like I want to throw up sick. I told my doctor about it, and he said to just put them on for an hour a day, and then switch, and slowly keep them on longer, so my eyes can adjust slowly, but I'm still getting headaches that don't go away for days. It puts me in tears & obviously I don't want to put my new ones back on ever, so should I tell my doctor again or? They retested me to make sure they got everything right, and my results were the exact same, so I don't know what to do.

Are there any women out there who wear glasses exclusively?

Contact Lens Confusion?

Hi,

I'm booked in for an initial contact lens assessment at Tesco, and I believe a free trial as well?

Anyway, looking on their website there must be at least a dozen various types of lenses advertised for sale. Why the vast range of lenses?

I know very little about CLs but remember trying them about 20 years ago. But there was quite a lot of faffing around (daily cleaning) but that wasn't put me off them. It was the cost of the solutions and tablets. Apparently back then you had to clean the protein off and disinfect them with basically bleach.

Nowadays, is the cleaning regime easier and are the solutions and lenses cheaper in 'real terms' than they were?

Thanking you in advance all for any answers.

Happy St George's Day

I might need glasses but not sure?

Today at school students got tested for vision. What happen was, the machine (I don't know what its called) they use to check vision, the woman there had me read the letters that i saw to her. I read the first row just fine. On the vision machine you look through what i think are called lenses? Kind of like when you look through binoculars. Through the first set of lenses is the one i read just fine. Then, the woman there told me to look through the second set of lenses; the letter were divided into 3 boxes. I could not see the first box, it was blurry. I read the rest just fine. It was just that one box. Anyways she said she will send a letter home to my parents to go to the eye doctor. I think i might have done something wrong, On the top of the machine there Was a plastic lid thing that when i looked through the top set of lens that plastic lid prevented me from looking at the lenses correctly, it pushed my head back slightly; so i wasn't looking directly through the lenses. I don't know if that was suppose to happen. Anyways i don't have problems of eye site before i see just fine for example at school the marker board i can read it just fine; or reading a book; again i see just fine. I look at objects and i can identify them from across the hallway. If my parents do buy me glasses; to be honest i will most likely rarely wear them. I don't think i need them… Anyways do you think i need glasses? I'm not sure. I will most likely go to the eye doctor either way.

Did my eye script change alot and what lens material should I now choose?

back in 2010 my script was,
OD: sph -4.00, Cyl -2.75, axis 20
OS: sph -4.75, cyl -3.00, axis 163
with pd of 65 total

yesterday I went to lenscrafters and they gave me:
"doctors handwriting is sloppy"
OD: sph -400, Cyl -250, Axis 016 add+1
OS: Sph: -450, Cyl -300, Axis 160 add+1

they didn't take any pd measurement

So did it change a lot or did he forget to write decimals? Or is the top one wrong and there shouldn't be decimals?

I ordered these frames on my own because lenscrafters only carries the 53mm size, that were a smidge too small and I wanted 55-17-150
http://www.ray-ban.com/usa/eyeglasses/RX6238-rb6238-black/713132447505

Now I'm getting ready to order my lenses and I'm pricing them out, from least expensive to most expensive, Trivex, High Index 1.67 and High Index 1.74

What would you suggest for my astigmatism? The eye doctor said I should get premium AR coating to help with glare, I'm worried about smudges, scratches and having my face distorted when looking at me through the lenses etc.

anyways the hi-index 1.74 automatically comes with premium AR included at the place I'm shopping and is only about $20 more than picking hi-index 1.67 with the addition upcharge premium AR.

Do you think I even need it?
Added (1). thank you Footprintz, do you think Single Vision High Index 1.67 Transitions XTRActive Lenses would be a good choice, Pros: gets extra dark, works in car, won't need to carry around 2 pairs of glasses. Cons: they say they never get totally clear and are always a little tinted? That would look weird in the office.

How to deal with the neighbours?

I am kind of having problems with my upstairs neighbour (english man ) who owns his apartment above, mine I rent from the landlord. The tone of upstairs neighbour is that of I own mine and you rent yours so what I say goes. I kind of feel that his polish girl friend is behind his attitude as he seemed so nice when she was not there. For example he wanted to use the private garden which is part of our property for his personal use, so he lied that the landlord misinformed us and it is for his use as well, which later turned out to be our private use alone and landlord doesn't want them to use it.

Another instance is that when landlord carries out somework in our property he gets annoyed and comes for an argument with us. He doesn't understand we do not even know who send the workers as we were also not informed and to always speak with the landlord.

As it got so bad, my partner left a note requesting to contact the property manager for all concerns regarding us or apartment than to speak with us, implicity informing him not to speak to us ever again. But for some reason he is too good to be true all of a sudden and it is kind of surprising me?
Is it better to stay away from him?
Any advice much appreciated.

Progressive eyeglasses: is a narrow horizontal field of focus normal?

I just started wearing progressive eyeglasses a few days ago. The vertical focal distances are just fine and I like that a lot. It is my sideways focus that concerns me: there is a "sweet spot" for perfect focus in all three sections, but if I keep my head still and just shift my eyes sideways, things get blurry.

Right now I'm making slight sideways head turns to keep things in focus - not even the full laptop screen is in focus. My neck is sore by noon.

My question is: will this spot of focus get wider horizontally as my eyes adjust to the progressive lens?

Do i need to pay for the prescription when I need to purchase contact lenses?

I lived in NY, and I have insurance that covers my annual eye exam. I know that purchasing contact lenses online is cheaper and I know I need a prescription for them. I went to have my annual eye exam today, my eye doctor also sells glasses and contacts, so my doctor asked which brand I wanted to use, and I said my old one is really dry for my eyes and she gave me 2 other brands to try.

The other people who work for her told me I have to pay $50 for the prescription, and later the $50 will be treated as a deposit for the price of my lenses (whatever brand I need). I don't want to pay because I don't want to buy contacts from my doctor, and I asked, "if i wanted to order online, do I still have to pay?" And the guy told me no matter how I order my contacts, the $50 is for the prescription and therefore I must pay.

So I paid, and I told everything to my boyfriend, he said he didn't have to pay anything to the doctor when he order contact lenses online.

I just wanted to know if it is true that there is a fee ($50) for contacts prescription even when my insurance covers an eye exam. I am kinda on a budget recently and I don't want to pay when I don't need to. Thank you!

How do Bifocal lenses work? How can an eye have both myopia and hypermetropia?

According to what they taught us in school, when a person has an eye defect the image is formed either in front or at the back of the retina. How then can there be bifocal lenses? Doesn't it mean that the image is formed in front of the retina as well as at the back of it? Isn't it absurd?

Contact lenses and redness?

I just got contacts yesterday, and I literally had to spend 40 minutes trying to remove them. I probably poked my eye multiple times, which made my eye really red afterward. (Only my left eye is red; the other is fine because I was able to remove the right contact with much more ease.)

Over 12 hours have passed and my left eye is still red. It doesn't hurt, but it feels slightly uncomfortable. What should I do in my case? Would it be safe to wear contacts tomorrow?

Anyways, I would definitely like to find a way to remove contacts without relying on the "pinching method." I found this video on YouTube, and this girl makes it look incredibly easy:

Does her way actually work? I don't want to try myself yet since I'm waiting for the redness to go away.

I went to the eye doctor and had my eyes professionally measured and everything.

I then ordered Freshlook Colorblends contacts which usually feel fine. However most recently when I opened a new pair, one of the contacts ALWAYS feels uncomfortable (as if something is underneath it) no matter how much I clean it or which eye I wear it on (my left and right eye are the same measurement/strength).

Not sure if its the individual contact or if it's something I'm doing wrong? The other contact, which is the same power and size, feels fine on both my right and left eye. It's only the other contact that feels weird no matter what I seem to do. This has happened once in the past with a different pair as well.

What could it be?

Would green contact lenses look good on brown eyes?

In this video the person has almost identical eye colour to mine. Does the green contact suit his eyes, in turn suiting my eye?

Thanks for answering.

Guys: Dyed hair and colored lenses?

Okay, so all my life I've wanted blue eyes along with sunny bright blonde hair, my hair is naturally a light brown and my eyes are a kinda medium brown. It's not that I'm trying to be fake or be someone I'm not, I just want to spice up my look. All my life my brothers have called me ugly and so plain and dull, I hate my hair color and eye color now. I dyed my hair a sandy blonde a few months back and all my friends said I looked much better as a blonde. And my cousin had put some of her blue contacts on me yesterday and told me I should have been born with blue eyes cause brown eyes aren't nearly as pretty as blue eyes on me. I promise I'm not trying to be fake, I just want to make myself look as pretty as I can, it's like wearing makeup in my opinion. Im not a different person, I just have different features. So do you think I should get colored contacts and get my hair dyed back to a gold blonde? Please tell me what you think of a girl who has contacts and dyed hair? I'm not a bad person, I'm actually a goody two shoes, my parents had told me I could get colored contacts and hair dye if I got straight eyes for entire semester, and I did. I had told my grandma about this a few days ago and she said I was being fake. That made me sorrowful, but it still didn't change my mind about the concept. Millions of people get their hair dyed and get colored contacts, so I don't see how I'm fake for doing it. Please, tell me what you think about the concept, is this being fake?

Why are my contacts making my eyes red and sting?

So I have been wearing contacts for 6 to 8 months now, so I am fairly new to contacts. Every time I use them I wash my hands really good, I put in new solution, and I make sure I use my eye drops regularly throughout the day. I haven't had a problem until just recently, and I don't even know if its my contacts or not.

I went to the Emergency a couple months ago after screaming to my mom that I couldn't open my eyes, my eyes were really red, as red as a tomato, and my eyes itched to a point where they hurt, it felt like I had thousands of little hairs in my eyes. I got to the emergency room and they told me I had Chemical Conjunctivitis. I have been sitting here thinking for the past few days what chemicals have I used differently? Have I tried anything new? I had nothing.

I went to the eye doctor and he told me not to wear my contacts for a couple weeks. A couple weeks went by, my eyes got much better, so I put my contacts back in after the eye doctors approval today. I made sure to dispose of my old contacts and put in new ones, I also washed the container to put my contacts in real good and put new solution. Now my eyes are red again, my eyes sting really bad and idk what to do.

I have soft lenses, the ones you wear for 2 weeks then dispose of them. I don't wear them while sleeping at all. I only wear them on an average of 6 hours every 4 to 5 days a week usually. I really don'y know what the problem can be. Am I allergic to the plastic or something?
Added (1). I always wash my hands before doing anything with my contacts, I make sure my solution is clean and I wash the thing to put my contacts in regularly. I am afraid I am going to go blind if I'm not doing something right.
Added (2). The eye doctor looked at my eyes and he told me under my eye lids they are rough, he said they are supposed to be smooth, but he didn't tell me much more. Does that differ from person to person? I don't know what that means.
