Are you supposed to allow your eyes to adjust to contact lenses?

I read that the first time you wear then, you shouldn't wear them for more than 4 hours. And then you can slowly extend wearing time to 6 hours the following week and then finally, 8 hours.

Is that true? My eye care professional never said anything like that.
Added (1). I'm wearing daily lenses(only gonna wear them occasionally, not everyday) if that matters.

Red stuff in my eye (right)?

While trying to take my contact lens off tonight, I noticed that there's this red string/cotton looking thing floating in the corner of my right eye. I tried to roll my eyes and take the thing out by hand but couldn't… And there's no pain at all? Is this some kind of infection?

Blurry vision but not sure of what it may be?

Hi, so I've pretty high myopia, about in the 650-700 degree range.
However my eyesight has been pretty stable since the last 7 years or so… Until recently when I realised that things aren't as precise and are pretty blurry.
I'm not sure if it's an increase in my myopia since when I strain my eyes or tilt my spectacle lens at an angle, it doesn't help sharpen the visage at all.
Could it be astigmatism since I've a mild history of it? It sort of healed up and got significantly better though, not sure if it's a possible relapse.

Thanks a lot!
Added (1). Yeah precisely, I was wondering why there's no diff even when I tilt my glasses and that's the whole reason I'm wondering if it's astigmatism.

Clear Care contact lenses solution stinging my eye help? - 1

So the other night I put my contacts lenses in the Clear Care case that came with it and left it there for 6 hours (as said); I was out of regular solution so i just filled my regular case (not the clear care one) with the clear care solution. The next morning; I tried putting my contacts in my eyes and it RIGHT AWAY it stung So MUCHH; the pain was unbearable. So that afternoon I bought the opti free regular solution and replaced it in my regular case. So the DAY after ( this morning ) I tried putting it in and RIGHT AWAY it didnt sting but a couple seconds later it was that pain again (not AS worst).

Should I RE do the clear care 6 hour process again and see if it goes back to normal?

Help;
Are my contacts lenses ever going back to not burning my eyes?

A middle name for this rare name?

I'm having a bb girl who my bf & I have decided to name Ainhoa Siobhan Matos (eye-noah shi-vawn is how you pronounce the name and Matos pronounced mah-tos is the last name of my bf whos going to raise child). He already has a daughter named Kimberly Yarieliz pronounced Jah-ree-el-ees; WARNING if you arent hispanic or talk spanish, it WILL sound ugly… And he has another child on way from the same mom of Kimberly. Does anyone else have any ideas on some middle names for Ainhoa? I AM NOT GOING TO CHANGE THE NAME! Siobhan is irish and Ainhoa is Basque and means goddess of light. I like it. Its a REAL name! Its used in Spain & France a lot and I want my child to have an unique name that stands out from everyone else but not ridiculously. I know its a name of a town somewhere but so are many other names such as Paris and London. If you lived where I live at in P. R., you would understand. I already have friends who named their kids Sophia Brielle, Wilmary (wil-mah-ree) because her dad is named Wilmer, Delilah, Tatiana Angelys (an-jel-ees), Paola Nicol, Yanelly (juh-nellie), Yethzabelly (jetz-uh-belly), Yiselys (jee-sell-ees), Vanenllaly (vah-nen-juh-lee), Sandrita because grandma is named Sandra, Kamila Sofia, Mia Ivette, Leilaniz Zoe (lay-lahn-ees), Genesis Sariady, Greischa, Yeischa, Jesher, Zahira Shailine, Keyshlamiris, Neysbell, Keyshliannis Denisse (kaysh-lee-ah-nees) because mom is named Kineysha (kee-neigh-shuh), Dianelys Sofia, Milenix (mee-len-ees), Milena, Nathaly Janís (natalie jan-ees), Yalanis Kelian (juh-lahn-ees), Surielys Zoe, Leannys Zoë, Kamila Zoe, Yeimirelys (jay-mee-rel-ees), Leishmary (laysh-marie) because mom is Lismary (leez-mah-ree) Neishany (neigh-shawn-ee), Xiomara (see-oh-mar-uh), Zoraida (zor-ry-duh), Zuliangely (zoo-lee-ahn-jel-ee because her mom is Zuleyma zoo-lay-muh and dad is Angel and they combined their names together, Giannella (jee-uh-nella) and Giane, Alanys Solange, Alanys Sofia because dad is named Alan, Ariannys Sofia, Faviola when its really supposed to be Fabiola, Joannys Sofia because dad is named Johan (joe-hawn), Jainelys Zoe, Janai Ivette, Jaylene Nicole, Krislianys Sofia because dad is named Christian, Jaylani Arielis, Glorimar, Nubia, Magdalena, Lara Camille, Nayeli (ny-ellie), Jaines Dalis, Dahlia, Shaira, Shakirah (sha-ky-ruh), Shakira Zoe (sha-kee-ruh) and MANY more names. My point here is that no one in Puerto Rico names their kids Isabella or Josefina (i only know old ladies with that name). And simple names will be mispronounced because my name is Amy and ppl pronounce it aw-mee instead of A-mee. --- ANYWAYS, long story short. Which name sounds better, should i keep the middle name as Siobhan. Or do you have any middle names for Ainhoa? Please DONT GIVE ME A FILLER NAME LIKE ROSE OR GRACE. Full 10 pts to the person with the most REASONABLE response. =]

So far, my faves are:

Ainhoa Siobhan (eye-noah shi-vawn); basque and irish
Ainhoa Sidonie (see-dohn-ee or sid-oh-nee)
Ainhoa Soleil (eye-noah so-lay); basque and french
Hollis Ainhoa; always loved Hollis
Ainhoa Sheridan (eye-noah sheri-dawn)

Anti-Glare for Glasses? - 1

So my best friend recently got a new pair of glasses without "anti-glare". I don't know much about glasses but she tells me it hurts her eyes to wear them without this. Her family couldn't afford to pay the extra money for the anti-glare and so she got them without it. I want to know if it's possible to still get the anti-glare for them or does she have to get a whole new set of lenses. I want to pay for the anti-glare for her, as she said it was around $50, but she told me you have to get this before the glass is cut for the lenses. Just wondering what I can do to help? :/

Contact lens is stuck, how do i get it out?

I have soft contacts and this morning when i put them in, one of them got folded and got up to the top of my eye. When I pull my eyelid away, I can see it [since it's slightly tinted blue], but it's too far up for me to reach with my finger. It's been stuck for about 3 hours now. What can I do to get it fixed myself? I would rather not have anyone else do it, but if I have to, I would have to go to my college's clinic. Any suggestions? Help? Please and thank you
Added (1). I can't get to the contact with my finger because it is lodged so high up in my eye and putting solution in it isn't helping either.

Getting calcium build up off of contacts?

My soft contact lenses keep getting sports of calcium build up on them after only two weeks of wearing them. They are supposed to last thirty days. I have worn contacts for about eight years now and have never had a problem with this, and it is only happening in one eye. I hate to waste money getting half of the wear out of my lenses. Contact lenses make eyes red?

I bought contacts from 1-800-cotnacts, a year ago, and I think my eyes were fine. Now when I ordered new ones, I noticed my eyes were irritated (Red) with the contacts. Especially in school, I don't know how to describe it, but it feels like it's dry something or blowing air into the eyes, no pain, just a dry feeling. I ordered the same ones that I have last year.

Possible to obtain waiver for enlist in Army with lens implant?

I'm 27 - Is it possible for me to get a waiver to enlist in the army if I have an artificial lens implant in my left eye? Its from an injury over 10 years ago - I've been to the doc 4 check ups and everything is fine - my vision is actually improving and I have practically no medical conditions as a result of the surgery. I do wear glasses but I'm not completely blind without them. I've heard you can get a medical waiver for certain things? Is it possible to get one for this? I know a lens implant is automatic DQ according to enlistment medical standards, - but is it still possible to get a waiver? I'm not wanting to be a pilot or anything requiring 20/20 vision? My soflens toric contacts are uncomfortable!

Hello to all,
I have been contact lens user for over 12 years and have been ok wid it. Due to my high power -6.00 I do not prefer to wear glasses. I always for some reason feel really uncomfortable when I wear glasses- it never matches the comfort of contacts. Well starting about few months back the comfort of my lens has come down after 12 hours of wearing my eyes feel tired and slight burning. I change my lens every 2wks up to max of one month- these lenses are sold in India as monthly disposables but I am aware in USA these are two week lenses. The lens that I use is soflens toric since i have astigmatism. Here are my questions:

1) Is there any other monthly toric lens that is known for comfort- is cibavision focus better than soflens?

2) what is good solution to use? Heard clear care is good- is there any need to rinse the clear care case after each use if so then what should i use normal saline solution?

3) I reside in India, so its not easy to get plain saline solution meant for optical use, but the IV Normal Saline - the ones used for intravenous drip is available. Do you think it would safe to use this to rinse my contacts and my contact case

4) please share any cleaning methods for comfortable wear

thanks to all in advance! :)

Better contact lens, Water content?

I'm using Bausch and Lomb Toric Softlens 66's (wal-mart) 2 week replaceables and they are ok… But I'm having a lot of problems with dryness. I looked on the Net it is seems to be a common complaint with this lens but everyone says they get the best vision with them. Can anyone recommend another lens to try. I looked at Lensrate.com but they don't have very many reviews. Do lenses with a lower Water content dry out less (these are over 65% and I haven't seen anything else that high). Dream of wearing a contact lense?

In this dream I had, I was at the store. And there was this Asian girl. And I asked her if she could do me a favor. And i asked of she could get me white contact lense. So she gets them for me. I don't know why I didn't get them my self? But I put them on and she told me they take time to settle. And she said they don't turn white right away. But for some reason I only wanted one of my eyes white? So a couple of hours pass in the dream. And I went into the bathroom and looked in the mirror. And I was checking on how they looked. And my eyes had this light blue and light green color and the white was a little there. But my right eye lens was putting a weird yellow shield lense over my right eye. So I took the lense out and I could see the normal color again. But then it started to have this strange goo over my eye like it was thick. So then I took it out. And the left turned white at the end of the dream.

Gas Permeable Contact Lenses?

I have just gotten my contact lenses from my optometrist and am up to the stage of wearing them for three hours a day today. I have found i have a few questions that probably can't wait until i next see my optometrist, so it would be great for some advice. I have gas permeable contact lenses, and am wearing them for one hour a day, then extending this until i get 'accustomed' to them.

1. My eyes are very teary when i put the lenses in. I can keep them in for even longer than the time that has been set, but my vision is constantly teary. What does this mean? I am worried that what use is it to be able to keep them in for a long time- if my vision is teary?

2. I am a bit unsure as to whether i have the correct cleaning technique… I have two separate bottles- one for conditioning, and the other for cleaning. My optometrist told me to put a couple of drops onto the contact lens in my palm, then to rub gently for about 10 seconds. I then have to get the conditioning solution and rinse the cleaner off. This is the part im not sure of. He said that the lenses should be completely cleaner-free, and i am worried about what happens if the cleaner is still on the lens when i put it back in the case. Will it do anything to my eyes?

I am probably getting too worried, but i really want to get it all right, so im not playing with my only pair of eyes! :) :D

Thanks:) :)

Every time I try to wear them, the lens keeps sticking to my finger, and comes out…
No mater how much I use the solution on the lens…
Added (1). Well this day I tried tried & tried, for at least 20 minutes, but got frustrated & just left the lens…

anyways, please tel do I have to put the lens directly on the brown area with pupil or I can put the lens on white area in the eye also…

Also, my eye starts to release tears… A lot…
thats the main reaon why my lens keeps coming out…
the tears have the tendency to slip every thing in the eye… Dust particle or something…

Contact lens irritating right eye?

So one day i put up my lens as normal and as soon as it got into my eye it started to sting and burn everytime i blink so i removed and put it again after some time… From that day since whenever i put my right eye lens i can feel it i mean that it remains always wet its not as normal as left eye… In left eye it feels like normal lens but in right irritates so i went up to doctor and she told that i dont clean up the lens properly and has protein deposits.sometimes when i blink it gets a lil blurry. So the question comes in my mind is why only right eye and not left ones. She examined and my lens is not torn its absolutely perfect. I put my right lens in left eye and it was fine… So it seems like somethings problem with my eye… Is it possible that one eye produces more protein then the other? Or is it something problem with my eye?
Its my 4th week with contact-soft conventional yearly disposable.
Please help
Added (1). There no seems any infection as i have currently no sensitive to light or red eye(infection symptoms)… Its juz lens irritating eye

Can you wear contact lenses while welding?

I got contact lenses and I am in high school. I have welding class in school and I have heard that you should not weld with contact lenses. I have heard myths of them getting "welded" to your eyes as a result of the heat during welding but I have never tried it so I don't know. I always have my helmet on and also safety glasses while welding but sometimes my welding partners like to joke around and flash me with the welding rod which I find dangerous and stupid of them. I heard that it would be even more dangerous with contact lenses but I don't really know why.

Also, it is not my last class of the day so I could not take them out and then put them back in since that would be a very big hassle for me. I would rather just not wear contacts if that would be my only choice.

Thanks in advance. Thanks You. :)

How to stop asking myself why me about health problems?

I constantly find myself wondering and saying "why me?". Why is it that out of all the people in this world it had to be me. No one would want to have problems so i sometimes find it so unfair on myself and all the other people in this world who have to deal with similar situations everyday. I have been using glasses since i was 3 (i am now 17) for my short-sightedness (myopia) and astigmatism in my left eye. My sight has been getting worse the older i get. But this really isn't the whole of my problem as this can be cured with surgery. My main "why me" problem is my actual eye itself. I get cysts and styes all the time, i have dry eyes and they are always red, itchy, and irritable. I have gotten so sick of this problem and that i never had a single proper day when my eyes feel and look normal. Every time i would go to my doctor she would just give me eyedrops for my dry eyes and it just keeps on coming back. Lately it has gotten so bad that i actually feel like crying because of these problems. Thanks to my doctor not being of much help i started researching myself and found that i may have blepharitis, with my luck obviously i would have this kind of problem which doesn't even have a cure. All of the symptoms are things i deal with everyday and also it is very common for dry eyes to occur when you have blepharitis. With these problems i can't wear eye make-up, can't wear contact lenses unless its fully healed. I really want a cure. Why me?

Should I dye my hair lighter (White)?

Summer's coming up and I want to do something out of the norm so to speak. I've been interested in coloring my hair, having colored contact lenses etc for a while now. I'm a 16 year old male with brown hair and I'd like to dye them lighter. Not neccessarily white but close. I'm not one to care much about the opinions of others on my looks, but still, should I color my hair?

I'm a bicurious male-crush help!

Okay so I'm generally attracted to females but over the past few years Ive been attracted to some males. Most of my crushes did not turn out well:

Guy1: In the summer of 2007 my physical experience drastically changed. I got contact lenses and had my braces removed before returning back to school and I would get random compliments from women on the street telling me how attractive I was anyways… School had started and I noticed how this guy kept staring at me across my band orchestra class who never paid much attention to me before. Throughout the year he tried to spread a rumor that I was gay and he just kept staring at me and followed me into the bathroom everyday after class. Even my friends started to notice how much he wanted to glance at me constantly adjusting his chair to get the perfect view. He even started to show interest in the same girl I liked and made attempts to get her to dislike me… Eventually I confronted him about the rumors and cursed him out (I didn't mean to) It just happened and well it was the end of that.

Guy 2: The same situation happened while I was away at college. However, this time was it was on a much wider scale. This guy was a well respected RA who had tried to spread the rumor. I had just moved on to his floor and everyone that lived there had went to a party near campus. I thought he was attractive and he offered to give me a ride home. I was slightly buzzed but my perception was still clear. We went up the elevator and he put his hand on his crotch. I wanted to have sex with him but he had to make the first move. We got of the elevator and he invited me into his room to talk about his workout regime since he was an Athletic Training major and of course I said yes. We went into the room and he removed his shirt. Eventually he sat on his bed and I said "I used to think you were an asshole, when we first met" and he said "well I promise you Im not that kinda guy". We then gazed into each others eyes as if we getting ready to make out as I was standing in front of him 1.5 feet away but then I just left because I was scared that if I had made the first move he wouldve rejected it.Since it was a small private school word got out quickly and mostly everyone in our building thought I was gay… Around this time I had a girl friend and he looked angry with her everytime he saw us together. After I returned from summer break he stared at me a lot as if he was in guilt.BTW he is getting married on Saturday

Guy 3: Eventually I left the small private college and returned home to attend a local community college to knock some credits out the way. I ran into this guy I was attracted to in high school. H e asked me what I was there for and I said "singing lessons"(music minor) and he said "for real son I didnt know you was like that" and I was confused about it and he said "think about it" and he was implying that I was gay because I was a singer which is quite stupid… Our friendship continued to grow and eventually he began to tease me about singing in a playful way… We had a conversation about gay people and he reacted in a very homophobic matter saying that all gay were going to hell…

There is more guys but Im to tired to type right now lol. I liked these guys at some point and I was wondering were they into me

Why is my vision getting worse?

About 9 months ago, I suffered from chronic headaches and went and saw my optometrist. He gave me glasses (I can't remember what script at the time). About 4 months ago, I found my glasses weren't working for me as well as they did so I revisited my optometrist, and I had to have my lenses replaced with stronger ones. I now have a script of +2.50. I'm already finding since having my lenses replaces that my eyes are feeling strained again and I'm finding it more difficult to focus.
I've been told I have long-sightedness.

Has anyone had a red dot eye test?

HI i recently had a red dot test for double vision. (You put some special glasses on, they turn the lights off and shine a light into the glasses, you should see a red dot in the middle of the white line)
Initially the red dot was to the left of the white line in my vision.
The doctor put a different lens on the glasses and the red dot was to the right of the white line.
My question is, does changing the lenses help measure how far my eyes are out of sync with each other?
For example, does he have a range of lenses each with a number that says how much its altering what you see?

Can an optician refuse to make glasses to my desired specifications?

Can an optician refuse to make glasses to my desired specifications?
Added (1). I have a very strong prescription and I wear contact lenses 90% of the time. I have a pair of designer glasses for the days when I don't feel like wearing contacts but I'm looking to get a pair of very basic glasses for when I'm doing things like shaving my legs in the shower. I don't want to spend a lot of money on these glasses so I requested the most basic lenses without any AR coating or other add-ons.
Added (2). I enjoy large frames and picked out a pair but the optician said that it would be "impossible" to fit my prescription in those frames with the basic CR-39 lenses.

I told her that I don't care about thickness or weight. These are just for me to wear at home for an hour or so but she said that it simply couldn't be done. I think she's just trying to make me spend more money than I want to. Am I right?

The rx is currently:

R -7.75

L -9.25

Best natural looking circle lenses for dark brown eyes?

I've got dark brown eyes, imagine as dark a brown you can before it starts to look brown, that's my eye color. Basically, the typical East Asian eye color. I've also got 14mm exactly, as far as I can tell, irises. Well I'm looking into getting some 15 mm contacts because I'd like some extra oomph you know, for special occasions or whenever I want. Problem is, when I'm shopping around online all I see are these lenses with designs in them to make you're eyes pop more, and don't get me wrong those are beautiful and super cool but don't exactly look the most natural most of the time. Anyone have any suggestions? Any brand or website etc is fine, I'm still new to the world of circle lenses so I don't have any preferences to anything specific yet in terms of brand and such. All I care is that it's not some shady website that'll make me go blind, that they're at least 15mm, brown, and natural looking

Why are yearly lenses not available any more?

Why can't they design a lens, however expensive, that can be used indefinitely?
At present, using contact lenses require "planning ahead". You need to renew the prescription, purchase a bunch of lenses in advance (or else you run the risk of not having a resh pair on the planned replacement date), you have to remember dates, and there is a general tendency to "Abuse" the lenses by not replacing them on time. All this could be solved if they designed a lens that you purchase once, and keep using until your prescription changes or the lens gets damaged- sort of like prescription glasses, you don't need to discard glasses on a planned schedule. Given that your prescription is stable, you can keep using the same glasses all your life

Is it possible to get circle lenses that are TOO big for your eyes?

I already did some research into circle lenses and I learned that there are different diameters. I didn't want to go over 14.8, but when I was asking the employee at the store if they had the brand and color of circle lens I was looking for (I believe it's called GEO princess series? It's a very nice brown!) and I forgot to check the diameter. I tried putting it in my eyes several times even after watching tutorials… I can't get them in. Is it possible they're too big? I naturally have tapered eyelids but I use eyelid tape to make them parallel, so they're not Really small, but I don't know what to do. They were expensive too, and I'm storing them for now in solution and changing it from time to time. What should I do?

Could it be that I am allergic to my contact solution?

I've always had a bit of a bad experience with contact lenses, if it were up to me I would not use them I dont mind my glasses BUT because I am active it's a real hassle to play sports wearing my glasses, and particularly because I swim (and wear goggles) I can't wear my glasses and swimming blindly is not a very comfortable. I digress, so recently my contacts have been causing my eye to turn red (a red rting around my iris that is now sort of maroon) during and after I use them. At first I thought maybe it was the contacts but on Thursday I opened up a new pair of them, fresh out of the solution they are stored in and my eyes were perfectly fine the whole day, at the end of the day I removed them (again my eyes were fine) cleaned them and placed them in a solution I bought ( I use Opti-Free) it's the same solution I used with my first pair of contacts that caused me similar problems (i turning red etc.) yesterday I had my contacts in and they began to turn a pinkish colour throughout the day so that when I removed my contacts by the end of the day my eye looked as if it had pink-eye (which I don't have). This seems to be a recurring problem for me and frankly I'm getting worried I visisted my optomerist and she said that it was just "allergies" and recommended some drops. However, I feel it may be more than that either there is a more serious problem at hand, or my eyes are too sensitive for contacts, OR I may be allergic to my contact solution which then in turn causes my eye to turn red and become a bit itchy.

If anyone has had any similar problems with Opti-Free Replenish Contact solution please share

Can you make eyesight worse by wearing strong glasses?

I came across a website where people talk about wearing higher prescription glasses to deliberately make their eyesight worse, mainly because they like the look of coke-bottle glasses on their faces.

So, for instance, if your prescription is -2.00, you wear -3.5 for a year or so, then go for an eye test and your sight has become worse. And so on, over the years.

They say your eyesight is unlikely to get as bad as the glasses you wear, but the trick is is to always "stay ahead" slightly so that your eyes can accommodate the stronger lens, allowing you to see OK. This causes greater dependence on the stronger lens, which makes your sight worse over time. Many of those who say they do this are in their teens and twenties, simply because they like the idea of wearing strong glasses.

Quite apart from the issue of whether it is wise for young people to do this, my question is: does this work or is the idea of that you can make your sight worse by wearing strong glasses really an old wives' tale?

^^ I am planning on getting these Optics O2 (disposable) contact lenses, one box for right eye, another for left. I want to use them only for special occasions. For example, so far, I'm planning to use them on graduation and Eid. What do these boxes come with, just the lenses or with the contact holder thing (the two circle containers with the letter R and L. Sorry dont really know the name haha) and with the contact cleaning solution? Is the expiration date usually within a month, a year? My parents are really cheap and getting these are already pushing it.

I'm a contact lens user, and blood vessels are approaching cornea. Should I be concerned?

M wearing contact lenses about 6 months now. They are Cooper Vision Frequency 55 lenses, 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. Blood vessels are appearing near the cornea, but have not yet entered the cornea.
Google search suggests Limbal hyperemia can be a precursor of corneal neovascularizzation, which might in turn result is permanent contact-lens cessation or in the worst case necessitate a corneal transplant.
The blood vessels are more pronounced at the 12 o'clock region. For reference, I'm including a picture of my right eye, if you set the monitor brightness of the computer at a moderately high level, you should be able to see the blood vessels quite clearly.

Here's the picture: I m a contact lens user, and blood vessels are approaching cornea. Should I be concerned - 1

I've seen my optometrist, and he insists as long as the vessels are not entering the cornea, I'm fine and I can continue lenswear. But I don't want to take chances with my vision, hence m here for a second professional opinion.

Vision/Comfort is unaffected-my lenses still feel comfortable and vision is still crystal clear wearing them (or glasses). My myopia is - 5.50 SPH/ No cyl in right eye, -5.25/No cyl in left eye. I don't smoke/drink alcohol/take any prescription medication, and don't suffer from any other diseases that I'm aware of.
Added (1). Oh, forgot to mention, I'm 32 years old.
Added (2). Thanks David, my optometrist tried with Avaira and AirOptix, but i couldn't get used to them. They felt like foreign bodies in the eye, and produced a "burning" sensation. I was comfortable in Frequency55 and ProClear. He picked Frequency55 as it's a bit less expensive and I don't have dry eyes. In the end, it was his choice, not mine. All I told him was I didn't feel comfortable in Avaira and AirOptix.
Added (3). Does this look dangerous? Should I stop using lenses and return to glasses full time? Please advice.

Need to tilt my head to see clearly out of new glasses?

I recently purchased a pair of HD progressive glasses. Details as follows:

Old Glasses:
1.67 plastic progressives with AR coating; worn for 4 years
OD Sphere -6.00, Cylinder -.50, Axis 095, Add 2
OS Sphere -7.25, Cylinder -.50, Axis 085, Add 2

New Glasses:
1.67 High Definition plastic progressives with AR coating
OD Sphere -5.50, Cylinder -1.00, Axis 090, Add 2
OS Sphere -7.00, Cylinder -.75, Axis 090, Add 2

The old glasses had become slightly overcorrected over time as my eyes had improved slightly; something I had not heard of until my optometrist said this was common as your eyes age (I am in my early 50's). Despite the overcorrection, however, the glasses did not cause me any discomfort or eyestrain, other than the fact I had to look through a lower part of the lenses than I would have normally if the lenses were not overcorrected. Despite the overcorrection, once I found the appropriate level on the progressives, I could see pretty much equal out of both eyes.

I have been wearing the new glasses for about 3 days now. There is no doubt the overall vision is better than with my old glasses, as I don't have to tilt my head up as far to see clearly. However, I am experiencing major eye strain especially at the computer or while looking at anything close up.

I tried covering one eye at a time to see if I could notice anything different. If I look straight ahead at the computer screen, for example, I can see clearly out of the left eye. With the right eye, however, I am unable to see the screen clearly, no matter what level I look through the lense, unless I tilt my head sideways to the left. But doing this then skewers the vision in the left eye.

Bottom line - I can't see with clarity at short range while looking at something straight on with the right eye. I have to look slightly sideways.

Do you have any suggestions as to why this is happening? I have been back to the optician and they say the measurements etc of my new glasses are correct (digital measurements were used; a first for me, but apparently 5 times more accurate than manual measurements).

Needless to say this problem is causing me a fair bit of anxiety as the glasses were very expensive and I really need to be able to get them right. As well the eyestrain is so bad, I am having to revert back at night to my old glasses just to get some relief, but I know this is not recommended as it delays adjustment time.

Any advice or help would be appreciated!

How many times can I wear daily contact lenses?

Okay, so I'm in a bit of a situation. Over the next 2 months, I have a lot going on. I'm graduating high school, I'm going to prom, I'm starting a new job… And as of right now I only have less than 2 weeks worth of Aqua Comfort Plus Daily contact lenses. I just found out that my prescription has expired, so long story short I can't get new lenses until after June 27th.

My question is, although they are daily lenses, could I put them in contact lense solution after I wear them for a few hours and then use them the next day… Or something like that? I am really freaking out here. Of course I have glasses, but they are painfully annoying to wear. I need to somehow stretch less than two weeks of contact lenses out over almost 2 months.

I ran out out of contact solution! What do I replace it with for just one day? - 1
Added (1). My play is today and I can't wear glasses onstage (the lights cause too much of a glare). I can do without them ok, but I would much rather wear contacts so I could actually see. I have a brand new set of contacts. I could get solution this evening (practicing all day today and performing tonight). I heard you needed to rinse a new pair before putting them on. Could I just put then on without rinsing them then rinse them tonight? Could I make my own temporary salt water solution?
Added (2). They're soft lenses

How to deal with allergies while wearing contacts?

I never had a problem with contacts until I developed allergies last summer. I would get monthlies and I could wear a pair for 45 days instead of the intended 30 days. The last summer I ordered my annually year supply and went through it in 2 months.
Needless to say, I was very shocked and confused. I went on for a year going through contacts like m&m's and I assumed I must've developed allergies because before my eyes could handle everything. Just got confirmed I have allergies after a year of pain. So now monthlies last about a few days a pair (3 days if im lucky). And to get to the point, is there anything I can do to better my allergies so my eyes can handle monthlies or even 2 week lenses? I really adore the aqua colored lenses b/c they look natural on me so I'm very hesitant to switch over to dailies completely. My eyes are blue but look grey from a normal distance so it just really annoys me. I know seeing good is more important than looks but I can't help it! Does anyone know of ways to make eyes feel better when wearing contacts? Sorry if my explanation was ridiculously long and all over the place, I've just come to my wits end!

Why does object seem bigger when wearing contact lenses?

I just started to wear contact lenses. I had it ten years ago but then stopped wearing it after a while since it was very expensive. I just restart it now since there are far fewer people wearing glasses now.
However, with my contact lenses on, everything seems a size bigger than without the contact, i.e. My wrist, especially my face seems larger than without it or with glasses on, or the tv remote looks larger as well. Some of them seems slightly out of proportion too.
I have mild astigmatism -0.5 in both eyes. I am not sure if it is the cause of the problem. I could watch the High Def tv picture with the same sharpness as with glasses. My doctor said I don't need toric lenses.
Could someone tell me if it's indeed caused by astigmatism and need toric lenses or something else? I never tried toric before.

Thanks a lot.

Steven

Can I survive without glasses for a month?

I'm currently living with my mother's family in her country of birth (got here a few days ago). The only problem is that it's a conservative society that considers females who wear glasses to be very unattractive. I know that I'll be bombarded with "advice" on how to heal my eyes if I leave my room wearing a thick pair of specs. I want to avoid the drama by not letting anyone know that I'm nearsighted. I'm obviously wearing contacts but will I be able to continue to wear them for 12-14 hours a day without a break for a month?

I was hoping to be able to squint and improve my vision when I don't have them on in the evenings and nights so that people don't notice I can't see. Are there any other ways to improve my visual acuity temporarily (apart from squinting which may be too obvious!)

Also, I decided to visit an optician because it's so much cheaper to get an exam and lenses here and he made it seem as though my vision was unusually bad. It did get worse but I'm still not sure whether it's as serious as he made it out to be. He kept saying that I have a very "high power" and that glasses "are a must" even when reading. The rx was:

R -3.25
L -4.00

Now, it's:

R -4.00
L -5.25

Is it really going to be such a problem
Added (1). Isn't -5 close to the average prescription in the US? Maybe the optician was surprised because people in this country don't use the internet as much as we do!

How to remove hair dye off eye glass lenses?

I dyed my hair black last night and I realized I had gotten two black dots on the lenses. It is driving me crazy. I have tried toothpaste, finger nail polish remover and just washing them. I do not want to ruin the lenses and I cannot see without them. Does anyone have any remedies to get them off?

My vision gets blurry close up with contacts? - 1

I just posted a question yesterday about my left eye bothering me after getting contacts.

Now there's another problem.

I can see very well far away. But when I'm using my computer, everything on the monitor seems blurry, especially from my left eye. I have to lean back like 2 feet away just to be able to type this. If I'm close up, things start getting even blurrier to the point where I see nothing at all. Is this normal? And I don't know if this is important, but I am 15, and I'm a first time contact lens user.

If forced, is it better to wear contacts lenses that are weaker or stronger than your prescription?

I want to order some circle lenses and my contact prescription is 6.25 OD and 6.75 OS. But my only options are either a 6.00 or 6.50 for my OD and either a 6.50 or 7.00 for my OS. Any suggestions on which way I should go?

Should I get single vision glasses or progressive lenses?

Okay i went to the eye DR yesterday. He said that i have farsightedness. And suggested reading glasses i have always been suggested reading glasses. But then he told me i needed progressive of bifocal lenses. I have 20/25 in L eye and 20/20 in R eye I thought bifocals were for older people (no offense) he said that since i am a nurse and my need changes from near to distance it would be better for me to get progressive lenses the top being hardly any correction and the bottom being more like reading glasses. The alternative would be reading glasses single vision that I would have to take off or move to walk… Does anyone here have progressive lenses just as reading glasses?

Is this some form of joke?

I'm fairly old but I know how pranks and jokes go viral fast. I just had a pretty weird encounter.

It's 1:24am here and someone just knocked on my door. I would have ignored if it wasn't for the person to ask me if they could use my phone. It sounded like a young child, so I instinctively thought something horrific happened and they were in danger. So I opened the door without thinking. When I opened the door, two young, gormless-looking children once again asked if they could use my phone. I would have agreed, but the fact they were wearing black contact lenses gave away their little prank. I quickly looked past them expecting to see someone filming my reaction. But I couldn't see them, so I just locked the door back up and now I'm writing this.

Can you give me a link to this prank being pulled on someone else. Or a name for this prank please. Thanks.

So I ve had these one glasses that I ve had since forever I seriously can t remember how long I ve had them I want to say middle school. I m 21 now. But I ve use the same lenses when my frames would break I would just go buy a new frame because it was Cheever. But about two years ago I got an eye exam and I bought new glasses and everything well when I put them on and stuff they didn t look right. Like the prescription seemed a little off honestly. Like it felt weird looking out them. Plus I didn t like how big the frames were so I never worn them just went back to my old ones. But just last night I lost them. So I have to resort back to these ones I don t like at all. Could it be my right prescription or could it just be j need to get used to them because I ve gotten used to the ones I ve used for so long, yeArs.

How to figure out what the problem for my lens irritation?

ok so I have monthly contacts for astigmatism, but everytime I switch them out for the month, the contact in my right eye floats around and doesn't just chill in one spot. But my left eye is oerfectly fine and normal. I think it's because it needs to fit around my eye & im assuming that takes time. But it makes my eyes water and irritates the hell out of my eye. Can't just call and set up a eye doctors appointment because my doctor is in another town.

How to cheat on eye exam?

I think I may have figured it out but can someone clarify if this is right? So I'm Myopic and when the eye dr. Does that test with the goggles and ask " what is better 1 or 2?" If you say 1 is better, you're vision got worse right and he repeats the process until it the lens no longer makes it better right? But if I lie and say 2 is better, event though it isn't, he will try a couple more times but if I keep lying he'll conclude my eyes haven't changed and prescription hasn't changed? This is all in theory right now. I know it sounds bad but I may or may not need to do this cause my vision is.25 over a certain job requirement which sucks.

I eligible for SSI if I become blind due to cataracts?

i won't get the surgery because insurance will only cover the cheapest. If I get that procedure I won't be able to get the bionic lens later when it does become available in the us.
So if I am declared blind, can I get disability or ssi even tho it can be surgically corrected?
Added (1). I am not "giving up on my vision" just for a check. I'm trying to plan. I want the bionic lens surgery when it becomes available, as it will correct my vision so I never need glasses again. If I get the cheap surgery that only "fixes" the cataracts, I'll still be stuck with glasses, may end up with cataracts again, and won't be a candidate for the bionic lens. So if I end up blind before the bionic lens is available, what am I supposed to do?
Added (2). I can get off ssi after I get the bionic lens
Added (3). I am not "refusing treatment". I am refusing inadequate treatment. Why should I settle for a cheap option, that won't prevent cataracts from returning, when there is a far BETTER option out there?
Added (4). I am a tax payer too. I also work and pay into the system. Insurance will cover the bionic lens. It will be comparable in price to the current cataract surgery. The bionic lens tho can't for cataracts, so it means not having to go thru surgery again, and its like 10 mins per eye instead of an hour. Why do I haveto settle for inadequate care when spmething far more efficient is around the corner?o

Can I wear daily disposable contact lenses for more than a day?

Why doesn't my contact lens sit at the center of my eye?

So for all of the colour contacts I've worn, when I put them on my left eye, they don't sit on the center. Aka a little bit of my eye will be showing and sometimes a little bit of my pupil will be covered up, because the lens sits a little bit to the left.
Does this mean I have astigmatism in my left eye? Thanks!

Can I reuse previously dried up contact lens?

to be exact circle lens, but same thing. They are for cosmetic purposes so i dont wear them too often. So i havent changed the solution in like a month(i know its really bad this is the longest ive waited) cuz i was getting really low and was trying to save the solution up. So i go to check on my lens and one lens the water is almost gone but still there, and the other is completely dried out and wrinkly. I put in new solution hoping for the best and the next day the dried out lens is back to normal. So i'm wondering if its ok to put it in my eye again? I read some stuff like the dried out ones get bacteria and stuff but has anyone else done this? They are my newest ones i dont really wanna throw them away…

How are our (my) eyes able to do this?

Generally when I wear prescription contact lens I have clear vision. If I put on my prescription glasses while wearing my contacts my vision becomes total crap, like just as bad as when I'm not using any vision correction product BUT today I slipped my glasses on while wearing contacts because sometimes I forget (I don't usually wear my contacts, it's habit to reach for my glasses when I'm not wearing them) and for a few seconds my vision was crystal clear before getting super fuzzy like normal. I kept the glasses on and could see my vision struggling to focus what I was looking at, sometimes it could clear the image but usually it was just fuzzy.

How is it that I was able to see clearly at all while wearing both prescription contacts and prescription glasses at the same time?

And why can't our eyes automatically correct poor vision so people don't need glasses/contacts anymore? I'm just curious.
