Why are eye exams are so expensive?

Okay, so I went to a optometrist today and he said I had a really flat cornea of about 38 and therefore I'm extremely limited to lenses choice. So he gave me a year supply of 30 days lenses and the overall cost was 300$. I understand that 300$ is okay for a year supply, but still I think like he just gave me the most expensive lenses out there. He also said that only these lenses might fit me.

I'm looking for some cool yellow halloween contact lenses but where should I start?

People mention that I should get prescription lenses to ensure there is no damage to my eyes however how do I get those? I've never bought colored lenses before so I just need a little guidance on it. ( Also a mention of where I could get good cheap ones would be nice too. )

No eye test/opticians for years?

In Brief, when I was about 16 I was prescribed contact lenses for my short-sightedness.

As time went on, due to a mixture of clinical anxiety and depression I began to ignore my appointments, and just order my lenses online so that I didn't have to keep seeing the optician.

I've been doing this for over a decade.
Recently, I find that I can't wear my daily disposable lenses without my eyes becoming very irritated.

I need to see an optician, I guess.

Do I make an appointment with a new optician (boots?/specsavers?) and ask for an eye test? Will they be angry at me when I explain that i've not been to optician in so long?
Also, I'll be more or less blind when I walk in there if i'm not wearing my lenses (don't have any glasses)

What would my spherical equivalent be?

My contact lens prescription is
Left: -4.00 -1.75 CYL 180 Axis
Right: -4.50 -1.75 CYL 180 Axis

I know that I have moderate myopia and low astigmatism so I want to know what my spherical equivalence would be. The Freshlook Colorblends Toric line has been discontinued so I'm desperate to find out what my prescription would be for normal spherical lenses!

Amblyopia or astigmatism?

So I have very poor vision in my left eye, found out in 6th grade. The doctor said I had a ”lazy eye”, but it wasnt refering to it as what I know, today, that a lazy eye means (=amblyopia). She was only saying that a muscle in my eye was ”lazy” and I needed some glasses to force an effort to the lazy eye. I wore the glasses but there was no change. My eyes used to get very tired after reading a lot.

Eventually I gave up on the glasses because my vision was getting worse. Later on I went to an ophthalmologist again because I was trying to get into aviation academy and I needed very good vision. My right eye was perfect, but the left was significantly bad, was told I had astigmatism. I got contact lenses and they were perfect, Sometimes I would still have problems with my left eye, when very tired.

With my current office job, my vision in the left eye went from bad to almost blind. I visited again an ophtalmologist and I was told for the first time that I had amblyopia and it couldnt be fixed because I was too old. Doctor said vision cant be corrected with glasses because theres nothing wrong with the eye, its the brain thats suppressing the vision of the eye. This detail doesnt make sense to me: if I put a finger in front of my lazy eye and try to look just above it, I can clearly see all the pixels on the screen. So how can it be my brain when a trick like this makes me see perfectly?
I am fed up with all the doctors and I am trying to figure out what the truth is.

New contacts sometimes cause eyes to burn?

Just a little bit of background story; I am a fairly new contact wearer. The only brand I have used is Freshlook Colorblends, which I wore for a little over a year and had no troubles. The contacts would dry out by the end of the day, but I figured that is expected.
Recently, I heard of an Italian contact lens brand called Desio Lens. I did a lot of research on their colored contacts and decided to purchase. They are 3 month lenses. I have been wearing them on and off for a couple weeks now, and have been trying to figure out what causes this problem: after only a few hours of being in, my eyes sometimes burn and get bloodshot with these contacts. When that happens I take them out and put them in solution for a couple days.
I have no idea if it is my eyes or the contacts causing the problem. Sometimes I can wear them for many hours and have only drying out but no burning, and other times my eyes begin to get bloodshot and dry after only a couple hours of them being in.
I am going to the eye doctor for this problem, but they do not have an open appointment for another couple weeks. So I am hoping somebody might be able to provide me with some insight as to what could be causing this. I love the color of the new lenses, but I definitely do not want to harm my vision. Thanks in advance.

Is it bad to wear contacts/glasses everyday?

I'm 18 years old and it seems like vision has only gotten worse. Will blindness occur if I continue to wear my contacts everyday? I have no idea what my vision is but my lenses on my glasses are pretty thick and whenever I'm not wearing my contacts/glasses everything blurry! I can only see objects (nothing is in focus).

I dropped my contact lens on the bathroom floor!

I JUST GOT CONTACT LENSES YESTERDAY! I was putting my left contact in just about an hour and 20 minutes ago, when I dropped it by the sink, which was plugged. I saw where it went, so I went to get it, but it wasn't there, or ANYWHERE by the sink. The sink was plugged and the toilet was closed! I've checked for at least an hour all over the bathroom, hallway and stairs, and myself. My dad and my sister tried helping, but they didn't see it. My dad covered the windows and door while I checked with a flashlight, but it wasn't there! I can't find it! Any tips or tricks! I need them for softball, because glasses are annoying to play in and I have practice in less than an hour!

How bad are colored contact lenses?

I've been wearing PRESCRIBED colored contact lenses for 4 years but almost everyone around me seems to regret the idea,i'm so tired of people telling me you should love yourself and your eyes, you should accept how god made u… Blah blah even though i don't wear makeup and i'm completely natural with my natural hair color but my eyes are dark brown almost black they make my whole face dull so i wear colored contacts, the thing is i HATE glasses i can't wear them, sunglasses are okay but glasses suckss andd i can see way better with my contacts than my glasses, but what really bothers me when my friends especially guy friends start talking about celebrities and how they likee them and are absolutely gorgeous.(not saying who they are)and those celebrities filled with botox and silicone. And some of them wear contacts ignoring these factss and they tell me to love myself just bcz i wear contacts(i dont even put eyeliner)WTH? Now that i'm tired of them i decided to go buy pair of transparent contacts(non colored) they bothered me all day and they felt like a pain in the *** when i got home i was pleasantly taking them off but it was hard to get them off bcz obviously they're transparent (i would get them off so easily if they were coloured)then i don't know how it got stucked under my top eyelid which took me 15min to search for it on the floor and scartching my eye. Then my brother put the flashlight in my eye to get it out after crying and yelling at him. What to do? Thank you<3

What does this eye test show?

I was at the eye doctor the other day. He tested my vision with a certain test: With this machine with different lenses and stuff in front of my eyes, he changes the lenses to make me see a circle, and a cross/plus sign. He asks if the circle was in the middle, I tell him yes. He asks if the cross/plus sign is in the middle of the circle. I said no it is to the right, on the border of the circle. Then he moves on without explaining the significance.

I understand this means I have some kind of strabismus or crossed eyes. My question however, is which eye is looking in which direction? I realize you need to know which eye had a circle in front of it or a cross/plus sign in front of it, but I thought perhaps some optometrists or eye doctors here would know, which side (and eye) typically has the circle or the cross/plus sign.

Thanks!

Are Halloween colored contact lenses bad for your eyes? Do things look different when you wear them?

Hello again. :D I was wanting to do a Dave Strider cosplay for Halloween or Comicon and I found a pair of red contacts and I was wondering if they did damage to your eyes. Also, I was wondering if things looked different when you wear them as opposed to not. Thanks a bunch~!~!~!~~

When can i get contact lenses? What age?

Hi, I'm 12 years old and i have glasses. To be honest, i don't wear my glasses at school. I'm supposed to but i don't.

People always made fun of me, my glasses always got dirty, and smudged, they always broke because i think kids would 'purposely' throw basketballs at my face.

But anyway I have straight A's in all my classes. I have a lot of responsibility and know the basics of how to put in contact lenses.

I just lost my glasses today. Insurance won't cover it because i am not due for another pair yet so we have to buy me new glasses. I don't want that. I asked my mom about it and she said i can't because my eye sight is too poor.

For a whole year it would cost about $300. Her insurance won't cover contact lenses because i think she has 'cosmetic' insurance or something. So we are in a crisis where my dad just left us. We don't have alot of money. I need glasses or contacts.

How do i go about getting these?
How can i get contacts instead?
What is the appropriate age?
Please help. Thank you in advance…

Where can I buy a kit to turn loose lenses into a clip-on for my glasses?

I have looked all over the web, but I have not found anything. I have welder's glasses that I have been using, but I have to wear my contacts under them. I hate wearing contacts it is ruining my productivity. I would like to turn the lenses for them into clip ons for my prescription safety glasses, instead of spending $300 for prescription welder's glasses. Plus the clipons would be more convenient, because I could flip them up to look at things that are often in shadows. Dont even mention "fit-overs" they look uncomfortable and they would probably not fit over my prescription safety glasses

What is wrong with my eyeball, and do I need to see a doctor?!

So I have been wearing my contacts for weeks at a time, I would wear them for a school week then usually take them out at night on the weekends. Lately at night my visions gets very blurry with and without contacts in, and I discovered that I have these round circular ridges where my contacts lens would be. Is this normal? Am I going blind? Is it normal for contact lenses to burn for a few minutes when i first put them in?

I just got contacts yesterday, and when I was practicing putting them in, it burned on both eyes. I had to close my eye and the doctor said to lightly tap on my top eyelid. After about 2-3 minutes the burning went away. I decided to practice at home today and it still was burning for a few mins, but the burning went away. Is this normal for a first time contact user?

How to form a 'response' to an artist's work in AS-level photography?

How to form a 'response' to an artist's work in AS-level photography?
Added (1). From what I understand, it is a personal interpretation of a photographer's work, however, I have to write one tonight and I'm not entirely sure how to do so.
I know it is short - 100 words (ish), and it involves a brief synopsis of the photography itself as well as your own personal feelings/reaction towards it.
But how do I do that, what should it involve, etc?

Contact lenses and astigmatism? - 1

Now, I was told by my optometrist a long time ago, that if you wear contacts that they don't correct for astigmatism, like eyeglasses can. I don't wear contacts right now, but was thinking about going to them at some point, and I do have an astigmatism in my eyes. Recently, I started seeing some contact lenses being advertised as specifically for astigmatism. Brands such as Acuvue Oasys brand, or Air Optix for Astigmatism, etc. Was my optometrist wrong? Or are these new developments in contacts, that he may not have known about? Or is this just some kind of marketing gimmick by the contact lens companies?

Glasses over contacts?

So I wear night contacts. Basically at night I wear them and next morning I see clearly. Thing is, they arent always that clear bcuz I get random amounts of sleep everynight, insomnia. So I got glasses too. When I got tested, I forgot to mention that the night before, I wore contacts so the prescription could have been off. I dont know. But I just got my new glasses and they work well.

Question is, can I wear glasses if the night before I wore contacts?

Would the prescription technically work since I tested with them "on"?

Is this bad for my eyes? I hear glasses make ur eyes worse, and lens make them slowly better. What happens then? When I wear lens, my prescription doesnt get deeper. But can glasses change that?

Thanks.
