Is it true that colored contacts make your prescription change once a week?

One eye got worse by .25 and one got better by .25 according to my eye doctor's findings. I asked if that meant one eye got better, and he said with the colored contact lenses I had been using my prescription would change once a week anyway.

How is that possible?
I've been using them for 3 years (colored)… I mean… once a week? I don't get it.It's about the eye, right? And not the contact? So confused.
