Can you join the Navy with an intraocular lens?

My husband has always dreamed of joining the navy. He worked for a heating and air company right out of high school where he had his eye scratched by a piece of sheet metal. He had to have surgery to fix the scratch and they inserted a silicone intraocular lens. We started talking to a recruiter this week and when he asked about any eye injuries we told him about the lens. He didn t seem too worried about it, he just wanted us to bring in documentation from the surgery. After reading a little online this could be disqualifying. If this is so, how come the recruiter didn t flat out turn him down? Does he have any chance of a waiver if MEPS turns him down? My husband is extremely smart and scored very well on the asvab, he would have a lot to offer. I should mention his condition is not progressive, and his vision is 20/20 correctable. Thanks!
