Would a big flash/explosion cause someone to need glasses?

In my novel a character is captured and forced to build a weapon. He sabotages it so that when the boss of the operation uses it, the back of the gun blows up in his face. Thing is it causes a huge explosion that has some very bright like and other ****. I was wondering if this could possibly cause the character to need glasses, but not blind him? Just weaken his eyes or something similar so that he'd end up needing glasses to see well/ damage would be correctable by lenses? I know it's a bit of a vague description, but I'm just wondering if anyone can give an idea? Thanks in advance!
