Why do some people use daily contact for long term use when there are other options?

I just got some daily use contact lenses and reading online it sounds like some people are using daily throw away contacts as weekly or even monthly contacts. They claim they clean them and re-use them for longer time than recommended. Why do this when there are daily, weekly, or monthly lenses available?

The way I see it they recommend these are used and thrown away on a daily basis. I would like to follow such recommendation as it is my eyes after all and reading online about toxic buildup, it just seems like an overall bad idea. Why don't these folks simply get the weekly or monthly contacts instead?
