Can an optometrist refuse me contact lenses?

Last time in Feb I was getting a new eyeglasses prescription, and I asked the doctor if contact lenses would be fine. He completely freaked and said contacts were just toxic to the eyes and that I was too young (im 12), Today, I booked an appointment for a contact lens fitting and it's next week. Would the optometrist refuse me contacts even if he accepted the appointment, or would he accept? I know that contact lenses are fine for any age as long as you are mature about it and you clean them everyday and replace the solution in the case, so I was very thrown off when the eyeglasses optometrist refused me contacts.
