How can my vision plan afford to do this?

I pay $1.17 a week, so $60 a year for vision insurance. I wear AcuVue Advance Plus soft contacts. They pay for a years' supply every year with no deductible - about $320. UnitedHealthcare is the carrier. I know that insurance plans as a rule make money because many don't use them. How is this possible since so many wear contacts? I have noticed they won't pay as much for glasses, yet are fine with shelling out for a year of contacts.
